St Kilda, have delisted this guy. Has anyone seen him play, all I know is he is a KPP, would he be worth the trouble? Can he be a back up (depth) key position forward. With Hartlett probably being groomed for CHF (I believe Waite should be CHB), will he be a good back up. I think he is only about 22 yo, pretty hard to crack into St Kilda Key Forward posts, and even though Gerhig has gone, Lyon has stated that Kosi will play FF now that they have a ruckman.

If he has any ability, and if there is no better talent (Rutten, Brennan, Bolton, Hahn) or a mid with similar talent, I would go the Key Position player.

I watched him in the SANFL a year or so ago and he does have some ability but is very very soft and his bad days are a lot more common than his 1 or 2 good days a season.

So NO

No thanks.
Haven't seen alot of him, however, he might just be one of the many players that are good at a lower level, but just cannot make the transition into the AFL.

he has been delisted twice now, by the saints, why go there??

I think he has only been delisted once and I believe for the reason I mentioned above with the Saints. Adelaide did a trade the first time.

I am not saying get him or not, however I think with Kennedy's departure we should probably look at guys who have some ability to play
KF but haven't been given opportunities. This is especially the case where he has played at a club that has very good players playing in his prefereed position, eg. Gehrig, Kosi, Riewoldt and Hamil to a degree.

I'd say no to going after him, has ok hands and is a decent kick from what I say in the sanfl he was too slow and couldn't turn or play below his knees. He is extremely one dimensional, missed his era in the 80's.

Hartlett and Edwards are much better options long term

im pretty sure the saints delisted him last year, then re-drafted him in the PSD

Career highlights

Fergus Watts (born September 21, 1985) is an England-born Australian rules football player with the AFL's St Kilda Football Club. Watts is a forward line player.

[edit] Adelaide Crows 2004-5

Watts was a 2003 1st round draft selection (14th overall) for the Adelaide. Watts was on the Crows playing list for two seasons, but disappointingly played only 5 senior games (all in 2004), returning 2 goals.[1] He had more success in the SANFL, including a 10 goals haul for Woodville-West Torrens in the 2005 SANFL semi-final.

He requested to be traded to St Kilda at the end of the 2005 season, citing limited playing opportunities. Fergus' father Jim Watts was the CEO of the St Kilda Football Club at that time. A deal was made with the Crows receiving a first round draft selection in return - used to secure Darren Pfeiffer (selection no. 17 overall), who was later delisted after 0 AFL games at the end of the 2007 season.[2]

[edit] St Kilda 2006-7

Watts has only played a single senior game for the Saints, the season opener against West Coast (1 goal).[3] Dropped to the VFL he broke his ankle playing for Casey Scorpions two weeks later. His recovery has been prolonged, punctuated by five surgeries on his leg and ankle and a struggle with chronic osteitis pubis.[4] Although returning to the VFL in the latter half of 2007 he was unable to break into the Saints senior side.

Agreed. Two 'strikes' and you're gone i reckon.
He was apparently delisted by the Saints twice, although I cannot recall this. Is that really a delisting, if the club picks you up again, I think it shows they believe he has ability. I think if we can get him cheap it would be worth the shot behind the quality players available at the PSD.

One of those smokies that Saints supporters always used to say "will be a gun when he gets a game, you'll see"

But he's had injuries and never really looked like breaking out of the emergency list too often.

Probably a decent player, but I wouldn't think that he'd really add a great deal of depth. Depends what else is on offer though ...

Living in SA, I saw him play a few times for Woodville/West Torrens, is a big player who could hold down CHF. Was never really given a chance by CRAIG and went to the Saints as his old man was CEO.

Broke his leg, I would look at other guys, VOGELS/BRADLEY/BRENNAN in the draft before taking him.

He was pretty slow and awkward ....

Ive seen him play a fair bit too(also live in SA) and i see him more as a "sit in the square" type full forward. His movement isnt good enough to hold down CHF. Whats weird is, i think he's exactly the sort of player the Saints need with Gehrig retiring

Wouldnt be upset if we took him, but think there will be better options

Didn't play at all in 2006.

Kicked 10 in an SANFL Preliminary Final in 2005 as a 19-year old.

Terrific hands ... like glue. Great contested mark, good kick for goal and huge amounts of courage.

Quite slow and only average mobility once the ball hits the deck.

Only 21-years old, and kicked bags of 5 and 7 goals towards the end of '07 in the VFL, when he was finally fit.

Could kick 50 goals at AFL level IMO.
