Fevola struggling with knee pain
AAP - Tuesday March 27, 7:09 PM

Carlton star forward Brendan Fevola has admitted he is struggling with a mystery knee injury days out from the start of the AFL season.

Fevola, the reigning Coleman medallist, who was in excellent form during the Blues' successful pre-season campaign, visited a specialist for a consultation on Tuesday.

But he said the visit had not cleared up the nature of the injury, which has affected him since he landed awkwardly during the NAB Cup grand final on March 17.

"He (the specialist) is not quite sure either but he just put me on these tablets and hopefully it goes away," Fevola told the Nine Network.

The full-forward had to leave the training track early on Monday after experiencing pain in the knee.

He said scans had failed to reveal the source of the pain.

"It was sort of concerning because the MRIs (showed) nothing," he said.

"I knew there was something wrong with it."

At this stage he is expected to play in Sunday's round one match against Richmond, but if the knee does not improve, arthroscopic surgery could be an option in future weeks.

"Hopefully I'll just tape it up and hopefully it just goes away in the next couple of weeks," he said.

Carlton's football operations manager Steven Icke said the club expected Fevola to play against the Tigers and the visit to the specialist was purely precautionary.

"There's no change to when we walked away from training yesterday evening," Icke said.

"There's nothing to suggest (he won't play)."

Fevola's injury is further bad news for Carlton, which will already be missing former skipper Anthony Koutoufides for up to 10 weeks with a finger injury.

So it was that NAB cup incident which did the damage. Hopefully it's nothing major and he'll be right - losing him now is horrible timing. We've got to continue our NAB cup form - if its a repeat of 2005 it'd be detrimental to the confidence of our playing group.

Back up wouldnt be Edwards at FF - it may be him in the team but he has been playing a bit more up the ground I think.

Maybe Whitnall or Hartlett at full forward. Or even Fisher deep in the forward line?

you wouldnt beat anyone with out fev and you know it, fev is god, without fev there is no carlton

Fella we've beaten your mob with half a team before....;)

I reckon Fev will play.

If he doesn't, I suggest our forward line would look something like:

HF: Wiggins Whitnall Fisher
F: Hartlett Kennedy Betts

Since both Channel 7 and 3AW said he would play and it's just general soreness, relax guys. SEN also confirms this, said that he would play. The specialist said there is nothing wrong with his knee ... the same knee has had soreness like this before.

We're all getting worried because of the way Channel 9 (And that ******** Tony Jones) presented it as definite surgery. Tony Jones was beating it up too, as if he'd miss the season.

I had to laugh when Channel 9's A Current Affair began their fortnightly 'Footballers are bad boys' segment with shots of Brodie Holland with the voiceover saying 'Men want to be him, women want to be with him'!!!:D

I wouldn't mind his biceps or paypacket but!

Not sure if i'd want to be with Holland... seems a very cocky, very abusive person in my books.

But i'm sure having him put women in headlocks, and beat them in the head while they are on the ground sure must make Stella feel happy.

****ers the pair of them.

im all for waite at CHB from now on, but in the circumstance that fev was out for a few weeks, id rather waite at FF and whitnall goes bak to CHB. especially seeing as whitnall hasn't been in great form of late. waite has proven himself at FF before, so i would put him ther if fev missed a few, then put him bak to CHB once fev returned

I think they are on ercord as saying they want the Back 6 to play together as much as possible. I think waite has a lot to learn and putting him forward is going the wrong way. I would keep Whitnall up forward where he can instruct kennedy and fish and others where to lead.
