Campbell. This is my take.

The AFL want him gone. Brisbane have over paid him and wanted out. The AFL will help out with the salary cap issues as a trade off. Everyone wins bar Fev playing football. Fev will still get his money.

His health is another issue but on face value it doesn't seem to have been a concern for those making the decision.

and thats the disgusting thing to me. His health as is everyones is the most important thing imo.
To do this is not what we as australians do.

and we all knew the lions and afl wanted him gone for differring reasons.

Re: fev gone.. according to the age

:D Theres no need to say sorry to me.

There is a thread with all that in it.

But yeah, it looks like they simply don't want him and have a good way out.

When he came up ere, the media camped outside his place. Unheard of up here. We heard it all , when his wife left, they showed the removals van pulling out. His kids stuff the lot. He couldnt fart without it making the news.

No other AFL or NRL player has had that attention in Qld.
And yet rumours surfaced about him getting into run ins with teammates at barbecues. Who else was at the centre of those rumours who is now playing at another club? The media wasn't there to see it, yet up they popped. How much more didn't even make the media?

Seriously, stuff like that at any other workplace, he would have been sacked ages ago.

That's the AFL we have. Image before everything else.

you better hope freo dont have those thoughts.

and any other workplace, if you get drink on nye, you dont get sacked.

if you make a dick of yourself at a private function you dont get sacked either.

There is no thought for the actual ongoing health of this person. That is very very wrong.

Shit, you reckon getting drunk on NYE and having a run in with a work colleague at a BBQ would get you sacked?

I posted on Fev earlier in this thread.

I am a Melbourne supporter who lives in Brisbane and each year I have been here I have been to several Lions games.

Unfortunately I have been to my last Lions game as I cannot spend my money on a club that has behaved this way. The club has sacked Fev almost at his lowest point and have told supporters and Fev today after backgrounding reporters for several days.

Time to move on, there are clubs unlike the Lions who believe in culture and don't spell it with a K.

Whilst in rehab... yes.

For someone who reads and trusts media reports so much,
I am shocked that you among others have overlooked the
fact ( as reported by his manager) that Fev is well enough to leave the facility, as early as last week but had decided to stay on until a decision had been made by the club in regard to his future.
So give up the "shouldn't hve done it to a bloke who was down and in rehab" crap.
Fevola needed this decision made so he can continue onto the next stage of his treatment/recovery.
And don't even suggest that we should have just lied to him to make him feel better, kept him on until it was felt he could handle the rejection.

No, I am saying that it is very likely that more went on than the trickle of reports that make it through the media. Just as with Cousins.

Brisbane had a fair turnover of players last year. A number of contracted players are said to want out. One of those blokes who left supposedly had a run in with Fevola.

Perhaps it's time to stop the rot?

I actually wish they did and had dumped Farmer at the end of 2007 when he had blown every possible last chance they had given him.

This is no way for a high profile footballer to end his career. He needs to go out on a high note much like Ben Cousins.

Pretty piss poor effort by all parties concerned really.

There won't be many winners in this but plenty of losers

But in the end we may have dodged a bullet by Voss choosing Brisbane over us. He has effectively given away Hendo, Rischitelli, Bradshaw and Kane Lucas for Callum Bartlett and indirectly lost Sherman and Brennan as well.

Gold Koast!

Say what you want about fev but one thing nobody can deny is that he is a damn good footballer.

I agree it looks like Brisbane are trying to stop the rot. Anyway none of us really know what's gone on behind the scenes but most clubs do leak these days so most of the crap would probably be out there. (imo of course)

Well Brisbane did leak the family day story... stood him down while investigating, yeah? Then he was found innocent after it was revealed the players said they saw nothing untoward and didn't she give him her number?

There's one they leaked... the one that stank of a set up to try and get rid of him.

Re: fev gone.. according to the age

what happens if during the investigation into his arrest on nye, it is discovered that the officer involved had overstepped the boundaries and ends up getting suspended for inappropriate behaviour and feb's arrest is quashed.

Ben Cousins was sacked following an arrest but no charges...

Lions sack Fevola

By Cameron Noakes 10:58 PM Sun 20 Feb, 2011

"BRENDAN Fevola has been sacked by the Brisbane Lions, however the club could be in for a legal battle for Fevola's manager Alastair Lynch says his company, Velocity Sports, does not accept the decision as a "legal termination".

Lynch, the general manager of Velocity Sports, said he was "surprised and disappointed the club had refused to detail in full the reasons for Fevola's dismissal".

In a meeting on Sunday between Lions coach Michael Voss and football chief Dean Warren, Fevola offered to play the entire 2011 season in the Lions reserves and accept whatever behavioral clauses the club wished to impose on him.
"

Just a small part of the article... but just wow.
