Stand-in Chairman (or CEO?) refused to answer. Repeatedly asked but repeatedly refused to answer. Says it will come out 'subject to ongoing discussions with' Fev and his management. In other words 'kill story, kill story'.

Michael Voss did not impress me, either.

exactly. Although apparently he did recieve an official warning for missing a recovery session after he tore his groin
Why couldn't they just tell us that!? Sitting there saying "we know but we're not telling you" implies there's something to hide. If he did receive an official warning for that, tell us!

Brisbane board are looking like fools at the moment.

I just had a good laugh. Matthew Finniss from the AFL Players' Association said that neither Fevola and his Manager, nor the AFL PA have any idea as to why Fevola's contract has been terminated.

Robbo said, "Maybe getting arrested on New Years Eve had something to do with it". Then Finniss said something like, "Oh, there's no denying that Fevola has a record over the years of things he's done wrong, but we aren't aware what they are".

Geez people just keep talking crap. How can ANYONE be puzzled as to why Fevola has been sacked by Brisbane???

We know of one thing, NYE.

What's the rest? Cleared of the Bingle thing, which was at Carlton yesterday, cleared of the Exposure thing, gambling is a personal issue not a club one. I think he has been sacked for just making headlines. They took him knowing what he was like, meaning at clean slate at Brisbane (not the AFL, just Brisbane) and soon has a few headlines are made, mostly false as it's turned out given he was cleared, Brisbane turned their back on him.

Let's face it, Brisbane has lost total respect of the entire football world with their weak-gutted sacking. They sacked him they owe the explanation. I don't think they had one. Just didn't like the headlines.

Most embarassing football interview EVER. They make derogatory claims but refuse to admit what those claims are or even say how many of them there are? Like playing peekaboo with Stevie Wonder

That had to be the worst football press conference in history.

Not only did the Chairman seem more nervous then Ricky Nixon:p:o, but they couldn't answer a single question about the only man we wanted to know about, Brendan Fevola.

What a rabble of a club, surely if they ever need financial assistance their has to be questions asked about how they got themselves in the hole they are in, spending millions on a player who was always going to be trouble from minute one.

What a waste the 2001-2003 premierships were, to a club that very few care about (one of the lowest memberships in the AFL despite winning 3 flags).

All I can say is today they acted like a football club with the word "Lions" attached to it.:o

Ha ha - I wonder who we played in 02,03? Sour grapes still.. Child.

Not a good time for Brisbane to have such a woeful 18 months in nearly every area of the football club, with their little brothers down the road joining the comp, they could be the big brothers within 18 months...

BRISBANE Lions captain Jonathan Brown says Brendan Fevola was sacked after he lost the trust of his teammates.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Brown said the decision to axe Fevola was "bloody unfortunate".

"He lost the trust of the playing group and it's hard to come back from that," he said.

Oh no Browny, don't start sounding like Brad Johnson - you are better than that mate!

Someone's been watching the The Rock return to Monday Night Raw last week. :p

Anyhow, I agree with this post.

Angus Johnson clearly looked like he had NFI what was going on.

A press conference to discuss and outline why Brendan Fevola was terminated and they did not want to tell us anything- because they don't have any grounds in the first place!

Amateurs.

It sounded like their grounds were... we don't like him.

But they did like him. Atleast thats what they said. They are friends arnt they

The whole press conference was pretty pathetic... Brown did well under the circumstances, Voss was out of his depth and the guy that said "Serious multiple breaches" was a robot.

Pathetic!

THE AFL has confirmed it will give the Brisbane Lions financial assistance following the decision to sack troubled forward Brendan Fevola.
AFL footballer operations manager Adrian Anderson confirmed this afternoon the Lions would get some salary cap relief for Fevola's huge payout. The former Blue is believed to be owed $1.9 million over the next two years. Anderson also said the league would give Brisbane further financial assistance, but denied the league had encouraged the Lions to sack Fevola.

How in gods name can the AFL bail out a bad recruiting decision?

This is complete rubbish.

Seriously, AFL is a game of one rule: "there are no rules".

We have a salary cap in place and because of a piece of bad business, woeful contract negotiations and TPP strategy and poor recruiting nous, they will provide that team with salary cap relief.

Where is the equity and equality for all other AFL clubs?

Well I can't wait for our salary cap relief if any of our recruits don't work out in the future.

Angus Johns
Lions Chairman

"Brendan has engaged in serious, or willfull misconduct, through persistant breaches of his obligations as an AFL player"

This is put so poorly.

Persistant breaches of his obligations as an AFL player??? WTF, Brisbane seem to be indicating that he is being sacked from the AFL not Brisbane... also sounds like they are really trying to work on the out clause opening the door to try and use past misdemeanors before the contract with Brisbane as sighted reasons.

Fev is going to take Brisbane for a ride over this, this whole thing has been handled so, so poorly... it absolutely reeks of ignorant business decisions.

Anyone hear how Voss claimed it was "His (Fev's) medical advise that he should be told he was sacked now"! What a tool

This is heading to the courts for sure... the AFL have endorsed sacking Fev - lets see the grounds on which he was sacked thanks.
