He will be paid out, so livelihood is probably not the right term.

Regardless, we aren't a rehab clinic. We have done more to help him than anyone else.

This is what the AFLPA is for. Is Fevola needs support, they will provide it. Brisbane need to worry about themselves now, not Fevola.

And Fevola needs the support of good people around him...

Brisbane has just proved they are not the "good people" that a person in crisis is looking for.

Way to support your own Brisbane - what an absolutely crazy PR move.

exactly. IF we sack him, then I am disgusted with our club. The guy needs our support.

Have we not heard of the long term injury list.
Problem I think is Fev's missus will never move back to Brisbane, which means Fev can't see his kids on a regular basis. I think for someone going through what he is, family support would be very important, and not being able to see his kids grow up would make it difficult to stay in Brisbane.

So how come Fev didn't book himself into rehab the myriad of other times he's been a dick? Perhaps because he knew he would be bailed out and forigiven over and over. Now of course hes 30 and the sand has nearly run out. I will be pissed if Sheedy gives him YET another chance.

Brisbane gave him a lifeline and he shat on them. I don't blame them one bit for cutting him loose.

Anyone else see the irony in sacking Fev for abusing 2 (of the top 3) products that the AFL advertises and receives sponsorship dollars for.

Next they will be sacking people for having addictions to leather. Hypocrites and what not

What the heck has anyones salary got t do with them having a major depressive illness requiring a stay in a mental health facility?
To some, money is the answer to just about everything.

Wouldn't be surprised and really a sad state of affairs. The man was on track to become Carlton's greatest ever goal kicker 18 months ago. Fast forward to the present and his life is in tatters.

If it is true, can't see him being selected by anybody else.

Yep he was a model citizen with no issues at Carlton!!!!

And Collingwood have never sacked someone who needed help?

Football clubs aren't babysitters. If Fevola had no way of receiving help outside of Brisbane then yes, they should provide that assistance, but that just isn't the case. Fevola is lucky. If he was living in the real world no one would give two hoots about him.

Fox Sports amongst others are reporting it. Either way its common sense. Any sacking sanctioned by the AFL isnt included in the salary cap. Been that way for many many years

Ok then.

I just got to laugh at all the Carlton supporters though. They amuse me.

Could work out for both parties, the Lions need to re-build as a club and Fevola needs to get his life back on track, the last thing he should think about right now is football.

7 weeks isn't/shouldn't be enough to solve a lot of problems this man has. He needs to take a good 12 months off, come back possibly to the GWS Giants team and have 2 final years playing well for the new team, all sobered up. He'll be better off in the long run, if he takes 12 months off away from the game. :thumbsu:

Surely you have an example? Because I can't think of any club that has waited for someone to get help for their problems and sacks them then? Any club... but you indicate that Collingwood has? Who???

Football clubs aren't babysitters... Brisbane has just proved that when one of their own seeks professional help and is in a time of need... they sack them, not help them. Even Brisbane supporters on this thread see that.

Especially nobody who we drafted in for 750k a year fully aware of the off field risks.
