Of course. And if that hadn't happened, they'd be taking us to court. Assuming the article I read is correct, that is virtually no chance of that happening.

Incidentally, if this does end up in court, we will probably find out what the breaches of contract were, as they will be used as evidence that the Fev was unable to 'fulfill his obligations as a player'.
BRISBANE's clumsy handling of Brendan Fevola's sacking effectively has invited the discarded star to take his case to the AFL Grievance Tribunal.

Yet Fevola and his management company, Velocity, still haven't been advised of the reasons for his sacking.

If they satisfactorily outlined to Fev's management and the AFLPA the reasons for his sacking, they could have said, for example "The reasons for his sacking have been made clear to him. He can tell you what they are".
But they didn't. Nobody knows.

If you had listened to the club President at the presser you would know that he has declined to give details of the reasons at present but will at a later date PROVIDED Fev and his management agree to that....and (hopefully) you wouldn't be posting this uninformed rubbish.

Here it is.

If you get a chance, read this post in regards to the payout/salary sum by whataboutbob. Will give you a good insight into the guesswork going on by the media on this.

Obviously, none of the articles posted should be taken as gospel, but being the optomist I am, I would like to think the one I posted is accurate considering you posted from the HUN and mine is from the Age ;)

"We're sacking you and not paying out your contract"
"Oh really. Why?"
"Oh...umm....we'll tell you later"

That absolutely reeks credibility.

I'm conflicted. I don't trust the Herald Sun at all, but Caro's a proven liar.

Wilson's article assumes/assures that Fev will be paid out in full, which is not what Brisbane said yesterday.

Re: contract amount. Critical reading of all articles would suggest that Fev was to receive $1.1M in 2011 ($1M from Brisbane, $100k from Carlton) and $400k (all from Brisbane) in 2012.

PS I feel a bit sick for referencing a Mike Sheahan article in my earlier post.

No....will tell the press and therefore the public at large later....suggest you read posts and understand the content...then get the brain in gear before engaging the mouth...or typing finger.

Yeah, they're all a bunch of tosspots really.
What's also interesting is that reading the articles, they've pretty much written directly contrasting articles. Plot thickens.

Unless you read Sheahan's article from today.

Fevola was due to receive a further $1.79 million for 2011-12 - $570,000 this year and a whopping $1.22 million next year.

I take all figures quoted by journos with a grain of salt.

Not on BF.

Anyway do you think Brisbane will free up cap space next season by sacking Fevola?

Possibly. If we do, it won't be enough to lure any new players, but possibly will be enough to retain say, a Mitch Clark.

Yeah, sounds about right. Just amazing in the variation of amounts.

What makes it worse is that some of those contrasts are from the same newspaper. Ridiculous.

Anyone know what the exact discretion in the trip to China was? Its been reported as like 3 different things now and in all honesty, a sneeze would of been a bigger discretion than any of whats been rumored so far

According to this article (which is the only one I've seen), he got wasted and kicked out of a bar, then missed a team meeting. Bit more than a sneeze.

What's different in this instance is that there were AFL officials present. Didn't do himself any favours there.

He got wasted at a organised event the entire team was present at. Got kicked out for getting in a fight with a guy and his girlfriend. Next morning he and 3 other players missed a team meeting is basically what they are saying

If thats a sackable offense half of Australia will be out of a job by the end of the month

For a footballer that probably is a sackable offence.

I know someone who would be sacked if he was just seen in a bar in his employer's uniform.

Again, I'll refer back to player obligations:

1.1 Attend all training sessions and team meetings of the Club.
1.2 Obey all reasonable directions of the Senior Coach, President, and Secretary of the Club.
1.3 Play in all football matches in which he is selected to play or as otherwise directed by the Club unless a duly
qualified Medical Practitioner rules him unfit to play.
1.4 Comply with all reasonable requirements of the Club relating to preparation for matches, attendance at social functions, behaviour and dress.
1.5 Not play or train for Australian Football with any other Club or team (save for a Victorian representative team or
the league representative team) without first obtaining the consent in writing of the Club.
1.6 Do everything reasonably necessary to obtain and maintain the best possible physical condition so as to render the most efficient service to the Club and to submit from time to time and as and when required by the Club to a complete a thorough medical fitness test and examination.
1.7 Maintain membership of recognised hospital and medical benefits fund which provides hospital, medical and
dental benefits coverage and includes ambulance subscription.
1.8 Not engage in any dangerous activity which in the opinion of the Club may affect the Player's ability to perform
his obligations under this Contract without first obtaining the consent in writing of the Club.
1.9 During league matches, wear only such items of playing apparel as may be approved of or prescribed by the
League and to the extent that the same are not inconsistent therewith, the Club.
1.10 Not comment on a matter which the Club has notified the Player is a matter upon which Players of the Club are
not to comment publicly.

In isolation I doubt it is a sackable offense, but termination becomes an option when the breaches become persistent and willful, or the behaviour continues for more than 2 weeks after a written notice.

In that case whataboutbob you have 3 more players left to sack I think.

I repeat:

In isolation I doubt it is a sackable offense, but termination becomes an option when the breaches become persistent and willful, or the behaviour continues for more than 2 weeks after a written notice.

Was the behaviour persistent and willful from the other 3 players, or did their behaviour continue for more than two weeks beyond a written notice?

How many other team meetings did he miss then? Any number?

Only rules he broke repeated times that you stated are getting drunk and possibly missing team meetings. I doubt hes the only player to get drunk more than once a year and I havnt heard about him missing multiple team meetings.

Maybe the club should introduce a No alchohol policy amongst all its players.
