Just home from the game, great seeing Buddy get his 100 goals but IMO not allowing Fev that last goal is very unsportsmanship like and i've lost a massive amount of respect for the Hawthorn Football Club. They had nothing to lose in the end accept respect and they sure as hell of lost that!!! I'm sure they're going to cop alot of flack over this in the media, double and triple teaming Fev trying to get his last goal in the dying minutes of the quarter.Nice sig, I agree.
I hate Hawthorn more than any other club in the competition.
So what were you guys going to gain by playing 3 or 4 players on Fev in the dying moment???lol @ thread
By this reasoning, Carlton were unsportsmanlike to contest Buddy at all during the opening quarter. Actually, why didn't they let him get to 150 while they were at it, manipulate history.
Milestone are just that because they must be earned ALL season long, not declared a gimme in round 22. It would ruin the game to suddenly allow a player to kick goals in the name of fabricating history.
FWIW, I wanted him the kick the 100, or at least one final shot at it. Fact is, he was gifted a goal late, and missed 3 or 4 chances in the opening quarter.

It cheapens what 100 goals means if the mentality is "get close to 100 by round 22 and thats good enough".
Yeah because Hodge, Franklin, Roughead and Lewis weren't rewards for finishing low.I agree. It'd be like winning a premiership knowing that you tanked season after season to get no.1 draft picks. Or buying players from other clubs.

Asked about Hawks concentrating on Fevola, Ratten replied: "I suppose maybe we could have done that at the start (on Franklin), I suppose that's the way he (Clarkson) has seen it."
Pressed on the subject, Ratten said "they were only 70 points up".
Ratten was then asked what he would have done in the same situation.
"I won't answer that," he said.
Yeah because Hodge, Franklin, Roughead and Lewis weren't rewards for finishing low.And we wont mentioned trading players to other clubs for draft picks/players when you clearly knew they had serious health issues, No we wont talk ethics with Hawthorn...

Not sure what happened to the sheperding out of a contest rule??? The last contest he had no chance of getting to it due to 3 hawks scragging him !!!
Stupid umpys
Great effort from the big fella and a much improved year by our young blues!!!!!
Bring on 09![]()
We have a game next week, we kind of need to prepare and play proper footy.
What did Carlton have to gain by not letting Roughead to 100? Same thing? It cheapens what 100 goals means if the mentality is "get close to 100 by round 22 and thats good enough".
Thing is, it wasn't proper football. Hawthorn had three blokes at one point during the last and another three standing 10 metres in front blocking the space - hardly "proper" football.
Stopping an obvious threat of scoring a goal = proper football ?
Me thinks so, carlton say no?
6 men on one footballer = not proper football. Play two on his shoulder and one blocking the space is what you'd normally see when Fev and Franklin are dominating, but the lengths the Hawks went to in the final quarter to ensure Fev didn't score the 100th was anything but normal. Hell, after kicking his 5th, Roughead went and sat in the space in front of Fev, even when the Hawks were scoring far easier than we were with Roughead up forward. Why change your structure when you were kicking 2 goals to our 1 in that last quarter?
ok, can't debate with immature idiots. Whatever, don't know what game you watched. Grow up mate
Thanks to the mature Carlton fans

FFS, it happens to Buddy every week.
Fev has to learn to deal with it just the same.
