we're getting done inside 50 on the other end, at least thats what i noticed tonight. as soon as the ball went in to the oppositions 50 on their half we just wilted, no pressure whatsoever on the back half! all we have is thorton giving a contest and the rest of the backman dont do a thing!

and its not so much about providing a contenst, but tonight they seemed to have so many men loose in their forward half, how can that happen in todays footy?! havent we learny anything from the gun sides...flood at any opportunity!!!

I think our backmen have been pretty good this year, and tonight was no exception. I thought Jammo was brilliant on Lloyd even though he kicked 4, T-Bird was good, Bower keeps getting better.

As Mediumsizered said, it is the lack of defensive pressure by the midfielders that allows the loose men to stream inside 50. Majority of Essenden's goals would have been kicked by midfielders, not forwards.

The best thing I saw from Fev tonight was this.

We had copped a bad run from the umps, Fev comes in uses his body (what seemed to be legally from the stands) and the ump pays a free against Fev for pushing or something.

Fev from last year would have lost the plot, sooked and probably given away a 50. Instead he realised he cannot control the umps got on with it and helped set up the next goal about 20 seconds later.

Yeah sure Fev kicked 8 and quite easily could have been 10, but too much last year his bullshit got in the way of him playing like he did tonight. It seems like finally he might have his head together and that's the best news so far :thumbsu:

his chase and tackle after that was awesome, after a legal mark, which the umpire thought otherwise, he just gave the ball back and then after michael kicked it he took off after the ball, tackled the bloke, and it set up a goal.

top marks for tonight. i hope there is more to come.

Yep coming from a player in the past who has been known for being a dropkick his attitude tonight was very impressive.

He copped a lot of shit from the Essendon defenders and didn't let any of it worry him, which translated into goals...

u cant blame the midfielders. our backs really crumbled tonight. even worse, i think it was our pressure on the essendon forward line the cost us. so many times they had loose men inside 50 that ____ed us up!
