I really dont get why people say this. Have you seen some of the people on the Pies team? Shaw, Swan, Didak, etc...
None of them as big a flog as Fev and all have turned their lives around. Fev is a repeat offender... repeat, a repeat offender! Any club that recruits him will be asking for trouble and I'd be devastated if he came to Collingwood.

Lol PNS some peeps can only see the supposed goal kicking prowess - FFS I could kick 10 against lower buttf@ck thirds and I'm 58! :D

lol. Yep. To be fair, on a good day Fev could do some serious damage on the scoreboard but the damage he did there was never quite on the same level as the damage he did to his club. If you want a culture of excessive drinking, poor work ethic and general stuff-ups, recruit Fev. It'll work a treat!

It's a given Fev won't play AFL next year but this season he kicked 105 goals in 16 games in the best league in Australia outside of State comps &'he was 10-15 kilo over weight & hardly trained so there is no doubt if he got fit again & played in a decent AFL team he would probably win the Coleman next season , definitely kick 50 plus , but we will never know or will we?

do some research before you mouth off.

Fev kicked over a hundred goals , over weightb&'unfit, this season in the Ovens & Murray league in Victoria including 5 in the Grandfinal.
O & M is arguably the best league in Australia outside of State comps.

This is sellng Young short IMO. He is a penetrating metres gained style of player. Not to say a player without faults and the liklihood of **** ups. And you know what? We are a team that has the best contested marking power forward so a penetrating player complements us perfectly at this moment.

Wellingham was different. I'd class as better. But in terms of structure, less so. He was inside. And unfortunately we had better options here. Outside though, Young offers us something that really positive and something we lack. Flawless? No! Important? Hells yeah!

Yes, worth giving one last chance. Could get him on a minimum salary as a rookie .Seems to have overcome his social problems, maturing mentally over the past 3 or so years. From all reports, was a role model to Yarrawonga not just on the field but off the field.... attending all functions and conducting training sessions with the junior kids at the club, signing autographs for the kids etc etc. IMO,he knows he has stuffed up and has the desire to acheive at the elite level for one last time.He certainly still has the ability to be a good player at the elite level.(fully fit)

You're right they have turned their lives around; they've gone from really good AFL footballers to really good AFL footballers - a complete 360. Them having a few drinken nights doesn't require their lives being turned around. Unless of course there is something that I don't know about them becoming smack addicts.

That statement is oxymoronic, whereas Fev is merely moronic. He won't play in the AFL again as the game and the level of professionalism required to play it have long passed him by. Hopefully these sorts of posts die off after this year's drafts too.

Pretty black and white thread this one. I think its worth seperating the issues somewhat.

Can he impact again at AFL level? I have no idea, I'm sure our football dept. can make an accurate evaluation of this.
Is he the type of player we need next season to fill a gap? Doesn't appear to be to me, seems to be more an opportunistic type of thing.
Could he potentially damage the club by misbehaving/leading astray? I really don't see why we can't keep him on such a short leash that this possibility is remote.
Has he changed? I have no idea but the fat/unfit thing suggests not changed enough.

One of the most powerful examples for potentially wayward youth is a role model who has made the mistakes, who recognises and shows the cost of those mistakes and is now doing everything to turn it around. IF this was the case with Fev, he could potentially be a good role model at the club. Personally I think the ship has sailed on this one.

I think we should offer Fev a job at the club. Get him in once a week for a short lecture to the players on what his behaviour and poor decisions has cost him.

I certainly hope not!

Hi

Read on The Age a couple of days ago that they had interviewed Fev. Fevolaa said that the 'boxing coach' is not true and he has been approached by 4 clubs and none of them are collingwood.

Don't think we need him anyways, we got Lynch and Paine/Gault to come. Also we could draft a few power forwards in this year's draft as we have some early picks (for once)

I only started watching the AFL again here in the UK back at the start of the 2010 season, so I not really up on the whole Fev bad boy story, I've read some of the news articles though.

He seems that even though he's put on a lot of weight he still knows where the goal is. So I wonder if we can pay him peanuts and say to him one strike and your outta here. What's the harm, if he's rubbish we just don't play him, if he steps out of line we sack him, if he scores a sh1tload of goals for us he can help us win the Premiership in 2013.

Back here in the UK Manchester City (soccer) had a lot of trouble a couple of their strikers last season, where the manager said a few times they'd never play for the club again, only to turn around a pick them at the end of the season when it mattered (unfortunately).

I don't think we could really lose with giving Fev a cheap years contract.

Read up on the bad boys stories - they are real and deeply disruptive for any football club.

Don't care how its rated is nowhere near the intensity of AFL and the bloke would face plant massively.

Not interested in arguing about him anyway, old news and past it - you're welcome to you opinion but we will never agree.

because he's been on his last strike 15 times. He's also fat, 30+ and has been out of the game for 2 years. Also loads of blokes kick 100+ goals in bush footy every year, the fact Fev did it changes nothing on what people already knew - that he could play the game.

Fev is a bad new story, and not for the same reasons pretty much everybody else is posting. He was given chances at Brisbane, not support. We're talking about a bloke who was in a very dark place, personally; and instead of helping him work through his issues like so many other clubs do for so many other players, he was unceremoniously dumped without much consideration for what he might do with or to himself afterwards. It really is sad how it all ended up for Fev, and I still think the Bulldogs should have picked him up when he was still only just out of the game. But now it is too late. No club should pick him up and no club will.

Can we round up all the people who said fev was comming to the pies, put them in a wagon, and dump them in the ocean?

Not until the same has been done to Fev...in 40 years people will still be calling for him to be our forward/morals coach.

Seriously. I look forward to the "We should get Fevola!" thread next year, some people just can't get it through their heads the guy is washed up. His career in the AFL, in any capacity, playing, coaching, commentating, is OVER. Period. He's done, no-one will touch him with a 40ft pole, end of story.

Fev came down to Tas, kicked 18 for New Norfolk, pulled in a crowd and made them a few $s. Everyone was happy. He is still a popular player with a potential contribution to make to the game. He certainly won't play at AFL level again but I don't think it serves anyones best interests to make him an outcast. I'm thinking maybe an annual comedy hour 'Fev's Brownlow Special' reliving the great night: make better viewing than the vote counting.
