Assuming our midfield at least breaks even this season what sort of output can we expect from Fev? Would really like to see what he can do with some decent delivery. I think also with Judd around this has taken some focus off Fev and will allow him to just worry about playing. Thoughts?

I reqally think that Fevola could be a possibility to kick 100 goals this year. Don't forget, two years ago when we finished last he kicked about 84 or something. He is still the main target in our forward line, and with improved delivery and opportunity another 20 or so goals is a possibility.
The biggest question that remains is whether Fevola is going to be consistent and not sook and whinge when things don't go his way. We have all seen how good he is when he is playing well, but we all also know how shocking he can be when he sooks.
If he can consistently put his head down and not sook he is a real possibility.

Nope, we have more depth than in 2006, when he scored 80 odd goals...so i do not see him kicking 100, or even 80 goals this year.

100 goals easy. :thumbsu: keep the rest of your forwards down there as decoys and just kick to fev every time. end of a match might look like this: fevola 10.10 70 def. Essendon 8.8 54.

I dont care if he kicks 100. I dont want him to be our only focus up forward again. It's ****ing frustrating.

Spot on AWG. How difficult is it to look up and see that Fevola has numbers around him. Switch, and go for another option. Surely that's not too hard to do.

Totally true AWG.
The midfield should be good for more goals and with us winning more of the ball and hopefully delivering it better to the forwards there should be more contributors. Saying that if he did kick 10 and we had other important goal kickers...well that would be rosey!

I think Fev is in with a chance to kick 100+ goals this year. I really dont blame him for cracking the shits last year! Half the time the ball wasnt getting delivered to him properly. He made the space on numerous occasions and simply the ball was not delivered properly. I bet (not because we have Judd) the ball is delivered 100% better this season, as we have our younger blokes with that year and another pre-season under their belts. Also with our new draft picks, players back from injuries, ect we can release our ball users into better positions. Im looking forward to seeing an improvement in all areas of our game this season!

I have no doubt that a lot of people here will agree that when Fevola is on top of his game he can be a match winner.

His goal in Adelaide from the boundary and 8 goals against Essendon are prime examples.

However a better structered midfield...no I change to a MORE EXPERIENCED midfield with Stevens back and Judd as the icing on the midfield cake with have better delivery and better use of the ball so the ammunition is there for 100 goals.

If he can kick 84 goals in a side that we can say was crap...imagine what he could do in a side that's good if not potentially great.......again.

That's kinda been my mindset as well. In 2006 when he kicked 84 goals, Nick Stevens was the stand-alone gun midfielder. Now, 2 years later, Stevo is still there, Judd is here, and kids like Simpson, Murphy and Carrazzo are much further developed.

Quite a few things would have to go right for Fevola to kick 100, but it's not out of the realms of possibility.

IF anderson, austin, aisake, hammo etc step up then we may have waite in the forward line.

So possibly up there with fev :

Gibbs, Houlihan, Fish, Waite, Cloke, Kreuzer, Edwards, Hartlett, Betts etc, all vying with fev for goals. It is a LOT different to when we had Waite and Fish injured and were relying on Whitnal or even Setanta to help out.

Fevola should not be a main target, but an option.

Fev should be part of a forward structure which allows attacking from the fifty, leads from the goals square, pack marking in close with quality roving.

A multi pronged attack which can not be nullified, as in the past, by closing down our only option of fev by double teaming him.

Le'ts not forget also that Fev had an off year not just because of delivery, but also accuracy. Normally he'd be kicking between 70-80% of shots between the big ones, but in 07 I think it was around 58%. Sure, there could be many reasons for this, but I remember almost every game seeing him miss at least one that he would normally gobble. So I hope he doesn't get complacent thinking that having higher quality delivery is going to make it all happen, he needs to work on it too.

Good to see we are not over-hyping things too much.

Personally I can't wait for superman to start on the half back flank and Spiderman in the middle. Oh yeah, i'm dreaming!

But seriously, here is all I had to add and it is only a minor point. Up till now Fev has carried the Carlton fwd line but he has done it with little expectation. All good and well when he delivers, and when he doesnt, well then it is poor supply or weak team as the cause. With the midfield we now have, all of a sudden he will be EXPECTED to deliver the goods, and do it EVERY week (4 goal average etc). All this with very suspect application/team spirit - lets be honest here. Personally I would have loved to have seen him traded in place of Kennedy to West Coke. Team character is everything, and he lacks it.

I'm pretty confident he will be even more a marked man by opposition teams this year, why? Because in the last three years, they didnt even have to worry if he kicked 5-8 gls, Carlton would still lose in most cases. Now they will realize Carlton have a potent mifield/supply to be worried about so will address the fwd options with tenacity. That means Fev to be shadowed closely all year. Also means he will potentially blow up!

Actually, this was supposed to be a minor point but looks like i've got carried away. Anyway, point is, he will kick still kick 50+ goals but could founder here and there with more pressure and his well documented personality/application issues.

PS
You might say well 50+ gls is good, and it is. But we dont want him like Richardson at the tigers who when Richmond win by 10 goals kicks 8 and when the game is in the balance goes to water under pressure/application issues.

Fisher will again help ease this frustration, and will draw a lot of confidence from having got through a whole season without serious interuption. Hoping for 50+ goals.

Either Waite or one of Kreuzer, Edwards, Hartlett will need to step up as another tall option to give us 30-40 goals, and Betts/Houlihan should produce 30-40 odd goals between them.

For Fev to kick 100 he will need to be more consistent, and nail his chances.......can go missing with the boot from time to time, and draw a 0 or 1 goal game every now and then.
