I'm not sure if this is a board decision or a football department decision but i think the board at least need to make thier position known on this issue.

Let me say, i for one am absoultely appalled and disguisted by Fev's actions in Ireland. If we attempt to play this down then i believe we are negligent as a board.

We have been giving the message that we are taking a zero d$ckhead approach to recruiting and list management. Angwin was sacked for turning up to training under the effects of drugs. IMO Fev's indiscretion is far more serious. the drugs are Angwins choice and only effect him, Fev assaulted another human being. Absolutely disgraceful and not the image the CFC want to convey

Fev is too important to the club from a matchday revenue and membership perspective and is therefore only saved from being completely axed by a bees d$ck in my opinion.

I would recommend a series of actions:

1. He is immediatley removed from any virtual captaincy role or role in the leadership group.
2. A very large fine is imposed
3. Shane Sullivan convinces Fev to go into therapy (NOT anger management courses), however for the sake of the media we will say he is going to anger management training!!
4. It is made very clear that he has now moved into a ZERO tolerance zone. Any further serious indiscretion and the club will be forced to sack him.
5. We look into taking some action to appease the other parties involved.

This may seem harsh, but we would be negligent not to reccomend such a serious course of action. The action is designed with regard to both player welfare and to maintaining the image of the CFC as a professional body.

I agree that the Board should make their position known on the matter.

I too am very disappointed with Fev and the way he has behaved in Ireland. I'm sure he is sorry as well, however in saying that, it will be interesting to hear his side of the story.

I think sacking him is a bit extreme but I think he needs to be shown that the CFC will not tolerate this kind of behaviour from a senior player and more importantly, a player who desperately wants to Captain the Blues.

IMO, removing him from the leadership group is probably punishment enough, but I agree that the Board needs to come down on him, as well as the football department.

I am disappointed by Fev's actions.

The only thing the board should do is sit him down and tell him he is back to square one, and inform him that he will not be in the leadership group until he changes his ways.

No further action should be taken by the club. Leave the rest to the AFL/authorities in Ireland. Remember, he was representing the country and the game more than thre Blues.

Surprise surprise, i disagree with you again Jeremias. Ther eis no splitting the club and figures like Fev. Wherever he goes, even if he is playing international rules, he is linked in public perception to the Carlton Football Club. He has chosen the course of a public identity re: The Footy Show and in most respects is the most identifiable face of the CFC. Don't kid yourself, he IS representing us.

My reaction to my post upon driving into work this morning was that it was initially too harsh. However i then heard the wishy washy press release our club put out on this incident and i support my intiial stance.

Especially given the perception of our club being a rabble, it is even more important that we take a firm stance.....we want to give the impression that we are a) A professional club and b) Interested in player welfare. We do this by taking a firm stance on this issue. We state we are in the process of rebuilding the club, both onfield and in its perception as a leading, professional club in the AFL competition and that a part of that is to expect the highest level of professionalism in our players when they are representing our club and the code.

Gilly, I never said he wasn't representing the Blues. He is, but not nearly as much as he is representing the country and the AFL.

We should punish him, and I think it is enough to tell him to straighten up, and to take the leadership role away from him until he proves his worth. No further action should be taken by the club.

The AFL and the authorities can do what they like.

NOt good enough Jeremias.......one question, do you think a little slap over the wrist is goiing to be good enough to amend his ways?

Do you think we might be bordering on negligent as a professional body who are obliged in matters of player welfare and personal development.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

We have an obligation to help Fev develop his character both for the benefit of his football and himself as a person. This is a characterlogical problem and will not be fixed by a slap over the wrist. Without some serious intervention this will happen again.

*No captaincy or vice captaincy. May be elevated back to the leadership group midway through the season if he is back on track (remember it is a players vote anyway).
*Must be fined either by the AFL or Carlton. Enough to pay back his flight and accommodation as he didn't contribute, and probably 10k to be given to a cause in the local Galway community.
*No threats of sacking. These sort of threats have a way of restricting us and making us look stupid if we don't carry them out. Possibly have a suspended fine OR the possibility of a 1 game suspension hanging over his head. Brisbane took a stand by dropping Akermanis, Carlton could do the same.
*There must be some sort of counselling carried out semi regularly.

this is some correspondence BG and i had by e-mail, she thought i made a good point and should post it in here:

BlueGal:

I agree with you regarding us appearing wishy washy and agree that we have to draw the line somewhere and this is probably a good opportunity to address the issues he obviously has but i think the way we do that in terms of this incident is strip him of any hope of being the Captain in the near future and leadership group honours for AT LEAST 2007. If you want to go a step further then perhaps he should have some counselling or something, but that is the most I would do IMHO.

My response:

IMO the counselling is the most important reaction…..punishment will not address characterlogical flaws, for example what if the unconscious motivator for that behaviour is a pathological desire to be punished? Maybe his parents hit him as a child? Punishing him might actually be rewarding his behaviour?? Come on Blues, time to step up to the plate and behave like adults.

I suppose it is the latent psychologist coming out in me.

Gilly, publicly announcing that he will be sacked upon any further misdemeanors is taking it way too far!

Agree with the fine but we can only impose $5000 max. as per the AFLPA agreement (I know Collingwood fined Morrisson 20k but they were taken to court or something and we won't be fighting that) and also the removal from leadership group.

Leave the others for the time being, let's hear him out first.

We also need to make a decision on this issue and post it to the main board.

From what I can gather, we have all pretty much said that he should be demoted from the leadership group and needs to prove that he deserves a leadership role for 2008 and beyond.

Do we all agree with this or does anybody else have any further comments?

Agree 100% BG. You must have read my mind!
