He'll click eventually. He had a lot of surgery over the break and it's just going to take a while for him to hit his straps again. Same for Stevens and Cloke.

Totally agree with you thylacine60, fev always seems to run off the rails during games for some reasonAlmost feels like his last bag was the comeback game last year! I'm just not sure how much he really gives a stuff. Unless things are just right for him he seems to believe he has a good excuse not to fire. That said he does a lot of bustling work and often chases defenders all the way to the wing and beyond. Rarely will you get a full game of committed, responsible footy out of Fev. And that will always be the case, I'm afraid.
My concern with Fev's kicking is that it rellies too much on "being hot" and not enough on a repeatable sequence of events.........a skill.
Much like putting in golf or free throws in basketball........its a skill that needs to be in a routine and practised over and over the same way.........these last two weeks we have seen Fev rush kicks, play on and snap......when all he needed to do was go back his usual distance, run in the sane way, dro the ball the same way and kick through it.
Without putting these into practise EVERY time he will struggle to be consistent, and will need to "be hot" to kick well. Its as much about mental application as it is the physical skill.![]()
As much as I hate the prick, this is why I think Lloyd has been so successful. It frustrates and amuses supporters when he does his whole routine, but as well as being a good kick of a footy, I think it's this ability to faze out everything else and focus on getting it right that has made him successful.
That, and diving of course.
I agree, which is why I doubt we will ever see the best of Fev, like someone like Lloyd or Neitz has. He isnt clever enough to be able to concentrate of the footy long enough to be consistent- too easily distracted. Having the football ability is great, but to kick 100 goals in a season you need somethig upstairs as well.Misses far too many kickable goals. The year he won the Coleman, he also kicked the most behinds. His kicking is overrated... sure he'll kick 60m bombs, that's great, but he misses far too many from 30-40m which should be routine for a forward. Lloyd, while rarely kicking miracle goals, rarely misses the routine ones, hence his success as a forward.
Yes......but he practises the dive as well.........even in intra club matches so I've heard. As much as I hate the prick, this is why I think Lloyd has been so successful. Precisley my point........how do you think Judd will look when he is tired? As has been pointed out, his pre-season has been badly interrupted.
IMO his kicking is a fitness issue. When your muscles are weary, you just can't execute as well as when they're not.
When the ball was on the ground in the forward half, when Fev chased, it was the most awesome thing to watch. His closing speed and sheer aggression at the ball carrier should be emulated across the team.
Unfortunately, those efforts physically spent him and when he's tired, he looks disinterested.
Give the guy a break people, he was one of our hardest triers on the weekend and he didnt exactly get a heap of quality opportunites. Reflect on how many goals he has kicked over the past few years, at critical moments, and goals that other players would not have kicked.
I can tell you that he has not put a foot wrong during pre-season and the input he has at the club is fantastic, especially his ability to bring the players together which is important when you have players like Judd come to the club. He wasnt voted to the leadership group for nothing.
So because he tries hard we aren't allowed to make observations about his game or his character on field?
That's true, and my comments (if it's mine you are referring to) refer not to his overall discipline, which in most games is fine.........they refer to those little moments of "Fev madness".Absolutely you can, however I think he has become an easy target and a scapegoat. I can tell you that he has done everything superbly over the pre-season and the players acknowledged this by voting him in the leadership group.
I dont know why some comments have been made about his demeanour on the weekend as I from what I saw he applied significant forward line pressure and tried extremely hard, and I can tell you there was no one more dissapointed with the result both at half time and after the game than Brendan.

One such incident in the first quarter where Fev was beaten in a contest in the pocket. He, to his credit, then chased the kick to the 50m arc where a Hawks player went to ground to gather the loose ball.......Fev came flying in to try and "bump" a player on the ground..........he has done this before and been suspended for his contact........its extremely hard to not hit someone high when they are kneeling on the ground and you go in with the hip.
Endeavour? Spot on.
Decision to bump or tackle? Poor, and lucky only to have the free paid against him..........slight change of position from either player could have been 2 weeks in the first two rounds.
I have already commented on his ability to focus and reproduce the kick over and over.
I love the guy, and gave him a big wrap for staying out an hour or so after the others had gone in on members day..............but there are a couple of issues with his onfield perfromance that I and clearly others wish to discuss.
Is that O.K.?
Yeah, I can asee where you are coming from.Bluebear I am not for one minute saying that people should not comment on negative aspects of the team or of a particular player. I am just requesting that it be put into perspective.
I agree with your assessment of the bump, however one of the key issues the coaches have had with the forward line is the physical pressure applied on the opposition (letting them know we are around) - Fev was simply trying to carry out the coaches instructions. Just about every contact in this game comes with a 'fine line' and the risk of missing slightly and you get reported, it doesnt mean you should attempt it.
Hampson a couple of weeks back did a similar thing against Kepler Bradley and all the supporters were commenting on how good his physical approach was - that is what I mean by keeping it in perspective.
Anyhow I know everyone has the best intentions, and I dont think Saturday is anything that we need to get too concerned over. The team will be primed for March 20 and there will be a different composition.
