Westhoff looks like a good defender, man loose, even a half back flanker!
Banner goes alright, we have a footballer here!
D.Stewart as a big marking forward looks AFL quality!
P.Stewart is gutsy as anything!
I wish more Port players would hurt the opposition when the opportunity arises!
Brogan has been fantastic!

Agree with most of that... plus

- Broadbent just seems to be having a crap of a game.
- Carlile is playing shite... wish he would just play the ball.
- we're looking a bit slow with Kornes, Carr, Cassisi
- Salter in the back pocket... again?????? FFS.
- Pearce started well but went quite.. boy we look slow without Pearce and Rodan.

Ultimately a disappointing fade away from the midway point of the second quarter.

Too little from our midfielders other than Rodan, Brogan and Cassisi. Just not enough constructive play from Pearce, Banner, Broadbent and even Salopek who has got alot of the ball but has not been involved in overlap or running play.

The main problem has been that we've stopped running the ball into an open forward line. Whether that is because of a lack of movement from forwards or indecision and holding up of the play from the mids, I'm not sure.

In that quarter we saw several instances of us winning free kicks around the centre square only to turn the ball sideways or backwards instead of trying to ram into our forward 50 quickly when there was still space.

The desire to keep control of the footy at all costs ends up hampering any chance we have of scoring. We never goal from slow, kick to mark play. We're much better when we're spontaneous and take the game on. We have stopped doing that for the last 45 min.

Again coaching, player mentality, player skill level ? Not sure which it is, but it will need to be addressed to get better results in the future.

Positives: Brogan, Rodan and Cassisi. Ebert and D. Stewart.

Negatives: Chaplin's skill level, stop start play. Broadbent's lack of leg speed. Pearce's lack of involvement.

Broadbent, as good as his SANFL form is, is not up to AFL footaball yet! If were harsh on Chad, the same needs to apply to everyone! He needs the ball in his hands not rolling over his head and along the ground!

Very disappointing response in this last quarter.

Depressing actually. Emotion should be high, nothing from the centre square.

Players not manning up in defence.

What should have been a focused start to this last quarter has been a pretty meek response to Choco's last address.

Sorry to intrude here guys but I am interested in your thoughts on Motlop!

I am watching your team have a real crack here and he frustrates the hell out of me and I dont even follow you guys!!

The goal he butchered in the 2nd quarter when he went with the outside of the right foot at a crucial stage of the match was disappointing and I suspect he may have had other options in board and then the free kicks he gives away are killing your team, this was also quite noticeable earlier this year when we came from behind to beat you.

I really believe if he kicks that goal in the 2nd quarter to stretch it back to 4 goals in your favour may have set up a crucial half time lead of 2 or 3 goals which could of been the beginning of the end for Collingwood with a strong 3rd quarter>

Anyway I know its been a tough day for your club but I couldn't help but ask what your thoughts were of Motlop, hope you get over the top of these pricks somehow in the last quarter but its going to be hard now.

Motlop should have been dropped 6 weeks ago. He's a lair and shouldn't have been persisted with.

This

A year ago you'd say "but having said that, he'll probably bob up and kick 3 match winning goals in the last 5 minutes". But now he's far more likely to give away 3 match losing 50 metre penalties.

We've not been good in the one-on-ones in space tonight. Classic example then with Salopek on Toovery (9:30 left in last quarter) on outer wing. He and Boak have gone to ground too easily too often, when outnumbered. Poor, poor stuff.

...

Sorry but Cassisi is now one of worst culprits of this... our midfield is EXTREMELY negative and slow... not only slow in leg speed but slow in decision making and kicking penetration.

Until this issue is resolved our forwards and our team will continue to struggle. Gray increase our decision making skill and Hartlett our penetration... but we need them 100% desperately... until then we will never be competitive.

I'd suggest that playing Trengove at CHB will be a better investment than persevering with Troy Chaplin. Makes the wrong decision far too often, whether it be spoiling instead of marking, calling for the sideways pass, bringing the ball out of defence. He plays like a big seagull back there. You don't see him win anywhere near enough contested balls in the air.

Just so slow to move the ball, constantly moving the ball sideways, shit skills, shit decision making, no forward line after quarter time, dumb football all over the ground. I wouldn't even say there was a lack of heart or effort - we just are nowhere good enough in so many areas.

Dom's a paradox. When he's in there winning the ball, I often feel grateful that at least he's putting his head over it and fighting tooth and nail. Then when he has the ball, you think "if only it was someone else with it". His slow disposal and lack of penetration and ball carry are a hindrance to our side.

Big difference tonight was Collingwood's forward run and ability to spread the ball from contests. They broke our tackles with ridiculous ease when they were running out of our defence. Then broke us open with the overlap play through the middle and got it into a very open forward line. Their forwards seemed to come up the ground to get in the play. When ours come up the ground it's to take a mark from a short pass that ultimately results in more held-up play.

I don't know anymore how much was Williams'/coaches' fault with the way we now play and how much is the playing group.

So many unimaginative, one dimensional players who don't take the game on.

Only Rodan and Pearce regularly take the game on successfully. Motlop tries but recently to no avail. Salopek, Cassisi, Kornes, Thomas, Chaplin, Logan, Ebert, Brogan are all stop start footballers who take the easy option of holding the play up so that they don't get tackled or caught with the footy.

Feel a little disrespectful saying this, but we were outcoached again IMO.

It was pretty obvious what would happen in the last quarter for mine.

Broady played terrible. Rodan played awesome. Ebert played awesome.

Chaplin had a fair game aswell.

Too much backwards and side kicking.
Motlop is horrible.
Westhoff a good backman.
Needed more options up forward (Salter.)
Hitchcock did nothing.
Trengove looks fantastic but should be played at CHB.
Ebert looked good tonight but eventually became our 'number one target' and thus struggled again.
Game plan is horrible.

Chaplin had a fair game aswell.

Thought Chappy failed to impose himself on the game. Didn't contest well aerially or read the play well in the air. Sure he gets those slow motion plays out the back or side, but he's hardly constructive. Very disillusioned with his lack of development. Compare him to a Nick Maxwell or Harry O'Brien. He's quite simply not in their league defensively and dare I say it, offensively either.

Ebert had little support. Stewart (Daniel) only won the ball outside of 50, which is becoming his norm. Does precious little close to goal, and his failure to get on the scoreboard will eventually wear down the coaches' faith in him.

Hitchcock has now had two quiet ones after the break. Looks indecisive all of a sudden and is not getting to dangerous spots.

Salter is not a defender. There is nothing decisive about the way he plays the defensive position. Doesn't spoil and gets outmarked even by smaller players (Haselby last week, Lockyer tonight). If he's to play AFL, it has to be as a lead-up forward.

Westhoff and Salter should swap positions.

Had too many slow players tonight which eventually got exposed.

Not sure what happened after the first quarter. We took our chances, took the game on, tried to win and then we decided to play negative footy and look backwards and such. I don't know if it was the players mindset, if it was the breeze, or if it was the Magpies flooding but that was disappointing.

btw I'm not sure if we could ever have a premiership side with Carlile and Chappy as our key defenders.

- Carlile needs a wake up call... doesn't look interested.
- Midfield needs a MAJOR revamp.
- Salter needs to be FF.
- D Stewart I am not convinced by but leave him in a FP for development.
- Trengove looks like he needs a rest.
- Brogan needs help in Lobbe... again he faded in 2nd half.

For the biggest 5 guys in each team compare the physical hardness, strength, mental toughness of Brown, Jolly, Cloke, Presti and Dawes to Brogan, Westy, Carlile, Chappy and D Stewy. Therein lies a big part of our problems.

Overall I would think that collingwood would be 5 kgs heavier all over the ground. Therein lies another part of our problems.

A hard running, physically strong mid-field compared to a slow one-paced mid-field. Therein lies another part of our problems.

No doubt. Swan, Johnson, Pendelbury, Didak, Lockyer, Shaw just broke through our tackles time and time again. Our corresponding players got held up and even if they release the ball it was typically a slower handball that looped to a stationary teammate. The waves of Collingwood players out of defence overwhelmed us. Alot had to do with their strength in breaking completely clear of our efforts to stop them.
