FIERCE BLUES SHUT OFF POWER

CARLTON has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the competition as it seemingly improves week to week. The Blues' latest victim was Port Adelaide as Carlton booted 23.4 (142) to 12.11 (83) in a dead-eye dominant performance in front of goal. The Blues laid 76 tackles to 32, won the hitouts, inside 50s, clearances and rebounds in a one-sided match. A seven goals to two final term saw the Blues turn the MCG into a party as they danced to their fourth straight win in front of 48,311 people.

Carlton's twin towers Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead had a combined 44 disposals, 13 marks and 12 goals, while Josh Kennedy was the pick of the midfielders with 36 disposals, nine clearances, eight inside 50s, five marks, six tacles and two goals. Patrick Cripps and Dan Hannebery - who the latter injured his ankle late - were both phenomenal through the midfield.

Carlton 5.3 | 12.3 | 16.3 | 23.4 (142)

BLUES SURVIVE SCARE UP NORTH

The top-of-the-table Blues were challenged throughout the match and even trailed by a point to the ninth placed Suns at the final break. Franklin booted 9.5 from 25 disposals, three marks and 10 hitouts, while Josh Kennedy and Daniel Hannebery had a combined 76 disposals, four marks, 15 tackles, nine clearances, eight inside 50s and six rebounds in a huge effort. Tom Nicholls was back to his best in his second game back, winning 30 hitouts to go with his 18 disposals and five inside 50s, while Amad Barns had 27 disposals, five inside 50s and three clearances in the win. A sour note was Hannebery's second consecutive report - this time earning him two weeks at the tribunal.
