MIGHTY MAGPIES
Hey everyone. I have been trying to figure out the best spots for everyone on the CFC list at the moment to see where we need depth the most ect.

But i found that the hardest thing is putting players in their best posy and who they are fighting with to get into the best 22. This is what ive come up with so far.

Lonie vs Ego. Both are fighting for a spot on the wing. Lonie has the disponsal, but Ego has the flair and pace. i have Rhyce earmarked for the other wing so will having both Ego and Rhyce on the wings be too sloppy in terms of disposal, or do we live with it and enjoy the added pace?

Burns vs Caracella. Fighting for a spot as the small forward. IMO burns needs to be played the same as bucks, but maybe a little more in the middle and might be better coming off the benchy. But he has the nouse to be able to kick 40+ goals when standing front and centre of Rocca, but so does Caracella, who is also able to find space a little better and has a better lead and set shot for goal.

Heath Shaw vs Dane Swan. Fighting for the small defender in the back pocket. Dane has shown more ability in stoping players but isnt as quick, and doesnt supply enough dash coming out of defence. Where as Heath plays the rebounding defender role really well, is that needed with players like Clement, Johnson (When not playing in the middle) and to a lesser extent Wakelin and Maxwell?

Well they are the 3 main fights and i eventually came up with the following as our top 25 (2005/2006 draftees not included)

Full Back
Swan/ Prestigiocomo/ Clement
Half Back
Maxwell /Wakelin/ Johnson
Centre
Lonie/ Licuria/ Shaw, Rhyce
Half Forward
Tarrant/ Cloke, Travis/ Fraser
Full Forward
Caracella/ Rocca/ Buckley
Followers
Richards/ Holland/ Didak
Interchange
Obree Cloke, Cam
Rusling Burns
Emergancy
Cloke, Jason/ Davies/ Egan

FB:Maxwell Prestigiacomo Johnson

HB:Lonie Clement Wakelin

C:Shaw Buckley Rowe

HF:Caracella Rocca Didak

FF:Davis Tarrant Rusling

R: Fraser Licuria Holland

Int: T. Cloke, Richards, Lockyer, Burns

Emg: Egan, O'bree, C Cloke, J Cloke, Davies

Midfield Rotations:

perfect.. i wanna hear some arguments against this team

So Morrison isn't capable of our best 22? Come the Big Day, I'd rather have him than any of our young blokes. He strikes me as a 20 touch player when the going is tough. And while I'm on the subject, Blake (7 touches, 3 goals) would make me more confident than a young bloke on the Big Day. We can never pick the big improvers but it would be great if the proven performers were beaten for a spot by the young guys because of form.

Ok, ill go through them one by one.

Lonie: Isnt a backman, seems to hate the roughstuff and is a front runner, if he is in the team his skills and resonable pace need to be going into the forward line not coming out of defence.

Rowe: Im not sold on rowe, he looks ok but is depth atm for us, his skills last year were very sub par.

Davis: As much as id like him to be the little goal sneek that we all want him to be Davis doesnt belong that close to goal, either start him in the middle, or pinch hit him in the middle off the bench.

Tarrant: Is anything but a full forward. Play him on a flank or a wing but dont coup him up in the goal square, thats where Rocca should be.

Lockyer: Doesnt even deserve a spot on the bench, especially behind the 3 midfield types that were listed as emergancies, ego, davies and obree.

Heath will develop into a midfielder. With continued improvement, I'd want to see him stepping up and making sure that guys like Tarks, Cheesy, Crab and the like aren't getting a spot in the side - he should easily be better than them.

Between Lonie, Egan, Rowe and Davies, we have too many wingmen. A couple of them will have to be able to move. Lonie is capable of playing on a back flank, and Egan on a forward one, but I'd like to see one or two out of Rowe, Egan and Davies develop into actual on-ballers.

Egan actually looked capable in the center - he seems to move well in traffic - and Davies probably can do it, although he's interesting, as most of the time he works hard to find space and provide an option, but around stoppages he works like an inside player.

I think there's room for Burns and Caracella in the side - Burns is only capable of an off the bench role at the moment, and Caracella is probably the most effective and creative small forward we've got (on the proviso that Didak moves into the middle). Carrots will start on the ground, while Burns will start on the bench, and Burns can move into the forward line when Caracella either moves to the bench or up the field.

swan, presti, max
johnno, wakes, clem
r.shaw, didak, holland
tazza, t.cloke, buckley
carrots, rocca, lockyer

richards, fraser, licka

lonie, rowe, burns, o'bree

something bit different, josh fraser is an awesome clearance player, put him & stretch in the middle!!

lockyer, could be a good goal sneak, great kick at goals too!!

didak has to be played more thru the middle, he has to turn into our dominant midfielder soon!

lonie, get rid of the defence idea, leave that to maxwell & or harry o'brien, lonie is a perfect winger or half forward flanker, let the bloke run around & get some touch at willi first if need be!
