Round 5

Round 5 saw us riding a 4 game winning streak and tied for equal first on the sweet FA ladder as the Furies hosted the Bombers at Punt Road Oval in the grand final replay. A week of some of the most average 'banter' anyone could ever have the misfortune of seeing put a bit of a dampener on the match, but as Sunday rolled around we were looking forwards to another good match and our 5th win on the trot.

The start was key in this one and we got going in the perfect fashion as Michaels punished the man he replaced at CHF HumanMeatball to snag the first 5 minutes in

And the commentators were correct that was the goal of that match upto that point

from there we never looked back as captain Sterge set the tone for the day looking to make up for a miserable GF performance

Wayward kicking from the Bombers kept us in it early as we knew we needed to put the bombers away early as they peppered the goals to no avail kicking 1.6 before the Furies slotted out second as goals to Wacky Tiger, NaturalDisaster and Shadow Man saw a slender 9 point quarter time lead

The bad kicking in the second continued as the tally stood at 4.7 to 2.7 as the first team who could kick straight looked to run away with this one.

Enter vice captain NaturalDisaster who nailed his second 11 minutes in on his was to a BOG performance

From there it looked like the Bombers had realised what to do as they kicked the next to to bring it back to 6 points before goals to This Is Anfield and NaturalDisaster third helped double the quarter time lead as we went into the long break 18 points clear

It was a much improved performance in the second half as we kicked 7 goals to the Bombers 5 to run out 28 point victors and go 1 game clear on top of the Sweet F.A ladder

NaturalDisaster thrived with 22 possessions 6 tackles and 4 goals as Sterge was subbed early
Michaels snagged 2 goals before moving into the middle to end up with 17 touches and 4 tackles
JackNah_8 continued to star in the centre racking up a game high 26 possessions and 11 marks
Wacky Tiger kicked 3
and _Cayz_ continued to dominate at FB keeping his opponent to only 2 goals

Round 6

Heritage round in the Sweet FA and 5 wins in a row for the Furies and 1 game clear on top of the Sweet FA ladder traveled to Coney Island unaware of the devastating Frankston Rover floods that would drown the entire island in metres of tears in only 10 weeks time.

Rainy weather was fitting for this matchup and again we got off to the best possible start as an early Michaels goal set us up for another big one, but once again a leaky Furies defence let through far too many shots as the Warriors quickly hit back as Itsmyshow continued his good form against the Furies helping the Warriors to a 15 point quarter time lead

It continued early in the second before goals to Nuffers and Sterge bought the lead back to within 2 kicks, however it was short lived as the Warriors kicked the next 3 including a stunner from known zero vote getter RedVest4

This one just wasn't our day and despite some Shadow Man heroics we struggled to stay within 20 points

Round 7

Round 7 and it wasn't quite panic stations for the Furies after 1 loss but by the end of the day it would be, hosting the Dragons the Funhouse crowd was out for blood.

In a sign of things to come we kicked the first 2 behinds before Hate wandered forwards to kick the first for the game and the first of what proved to be 5 in a row for the Dragons. Goals to NaturalDisaster and This Is Anfield were all that stopped the first term from being a complete failure as the Dragons lead by 15 at the first change.

Woefully inaccurate kicking saw the score sitting at 2 goals 7 behinds before a fired up Michaels flattened chefmeister

Goals to Wackelpudding and TJASTA and suddenly we were in front for the first time since the opening minutes. Back to back misses from eventually Fred medalist Hatchy1992 saw the scores level at 5.7 each as the time ticked away to the main break

The third quarter started well as goals to Tarkyn_24 Wacky Tiger and tigland bought the margin back to within 2 kicks and as Wacky kicked his second there was only a goal in it

more behinds from the dragons and a 12 point lead going into the final quarter, and despite our best work we just couldn't get back into this one going down by 20 points in what would become a curious phenomenon where the Furies can't win Qooty when Richmond win finals in the same week.

Round 8 of the Sweet FA and prelim finals week in the AFL so we all know how this one goes, traveling to wherever it is that the Hawks play to take on the 'best posting side in the league' the Furies looked to address the alarming form slump of recent weeks.

trading points to start the game before a comedy of errors lead to the first goal form TJASTA

A run of goals saw the Furies open a handy margin before Michaels set up Sterge for the Goal of the Year winner and a 20 point quarter time lead

Things were looking good as Wacky Tiger kicked the first of the second term and another from Sterge before it all fell apart as the hawks kicked 4 in a row to only trail by 5 points at half time

The Filth Wizard made it 5 and Agent93 6 in a row to the hawks to begin the 3rd before akkaps showed the rest of the Furies how it's done with a brilliant run down and goal

a third from akkaps and woeful inaccuracy that the Furies would end up ruing saw the 3 quarter time margin at only 8 points setting up a tense final term.

with JackNah_8 in the ruck setting up a TJASTA goal the margin was back to 2 and misses from Helen Wheels and Tarkyn_24 the Furies were regretting the missed chances to secure the 4 points, with the hawks out to a 4 goals lead goals from akkaps Tarkyn_24 and This Is Anfield set up a tense final 3 minutes but in the end it wasn't to be and the Richmond curse continued.

That also brings us to our second award of the night the captains trophy.

Normally given to the stats guy the captains trophy is a way for the captain to thank someone for all their hard work and in the absence of a proper stats guy this season NaturalDisaster. I have decided to give the award to a voice of reason that will be sorely missed in the LG next season a former comittee spy before being assassinated by The Filth Wizard and a wise head who always had the good advice when needed.

This is also a fitting time to award the goldenboot

The Fumbles Goldenboot was not actually named after club legend Fumbler but after Fumbles who played an impressive 17 games and won the Goldenboot with only 30 goals. So we have thought long and hard about changing the name of this award and there is only one individual fitting of a renamed Goldenboot and one who can reflect the new direction of the Furies. 90 games for the club, has won the Goldenboot a club record 4 times and is the Sweet FA's all time leading goal kicker.

The week the Furies lost and no one really cared, in what shaped up as the biggest week for the majority of Furies in 37 years the Qooty was almost an afterthought as the match thread stretched to a miserly 12 pages. On Saturday the Tigers saluted for the first time in 37 years and at that point the party was in full swing and no one could take it away from us.

Apparently a game happened on Sunday and a fair crowd still celebrating on Swan street managed to head over to watch the Furies

A slow start saw the Wonders hold a 2 goal lead at the first change, before kicking 4 in a row including this gem by _Cayz_ to give the Furies the lead

Holding a slender 8 point lead at the main break it looked like being an all star weekend for the Furies before a second half burst from the Wonders kicking 13 goals to 10 saw them sneak home by 10 points.

7 goals to Wacky Tiger put him back in contention for the Fred and a second BOG in 2 weeks to Sterge saw him rack up an impressive 37 touches 11 tackles and 2 goals.

With the Furies having never won a game in the same week as Richmond winning a final it's a good thing the AFL is now over and we can focus on #firsttosix again.

Round 10

Coming off who knows how many losses in a row and the Furies were in free fall, desperate to get back on the winners list and with only 7 games left in season 24 ensure we had a spot in the finals locked in.
Hosting Blacky and the Royals, we looked the goods early as Tarkyn_24 and Wacky Tiger kicked the first 2 goals respectively. When Tiger71 got on the board and Wacky and Tarks booted their seconds before the Royals even got on the board things were looking up in Furytown.

3 For wacky before quarter time and we were out to a 17 point lead.

The second started much like the first with goals to Wacky and Tarks before a bit of the ol' razzle dazzle from This Is Anfield had the crowd on their feet

Wacky had his 5th and the Furies had a 43 point half time lead as we threatened to get back on the winners list with a good old fashioned belting.
A goal from JackNah_8 sandwiched by 2 from Sterge early in the third and this one was almost beyond doubt out to a 50 point margin with a quarter and a half to play. 56 points a 3 quarter time and we could afford to go to sleep. A sloppy last quarter saw a bit of percentage slip away but a respectable 35 point final margin and we were back on the winners list.

SUPER QOOTY WEEKEND!!1!!!1ONE!! Whatever that means but it sounds exciting.

With NaturalDisaster posting the game we took on a little green slab of clay and his pony pal Pokie too... GUMBIES!!!

And boy were the Gumbies lippy early as Golumless kicked the first 2 and gave a spray to anyone who happened to be near by

And like it so often does this early 'confidence' came back to bite the Gumbies, despite kicking their third before Tiger71 opened the scoring for the Furies the Gumbies never really stood a chance despite holding an 11 point quarter time lead as only one more goal was added to the early tally

The Furies needed to do better in the second half and do better we did, behinds from JackNah_8 and _Cayz_ before Tiger71 kicked his second opening the flood gates as we kicked the next 3 including some luck from the umpires to extend the lead

A second to _Cayz_ in between akkaps 2nd and 3rd saw the quarter time deficit turned into a halftime lead of 27 points

The second half saw 2 early goals to Quivorir cut the lead back to 14 points before back and forth goals and a Gumbies run on and we suddenly had a game with the margin only being 9 points at the final change.

The first goal was crucial in the final term and for 13 excruciating minutes neither team could get near it until Wacky Tiger still in the hunt to complete his medal collection showed everyone how it's done

Threatening to put the game away we kicked 4 behinds in a row in a comedy of errors which left the door ajar for a possible Gumbies come back, however 3 and 4 for Tiger71 put the result beyond doubt as the Furies ran out 32 point victors.

Round 12

2 wins in a row and a chance to sew up a finals spot as we traveled to face the Bears in round 12.

Early goals from Wacky Tiger and 3121 premiers wasn't enough to keep the Furies in touch with their hosts as the bears went after the the first quarter harder than Yogi at a picnic basket, leading to a 15 point margin at the break

The second was more of the same until Fumbler got This Is Anfield involved in the play as he kicked a steadying goal

2 : 4.04 {lW} - Draws a man and then with hands to This Is Anfield.

The all too familiar pairing of Wacky Tiger and Tarkyn_24 combined to kick 2 goals followed by another from _Cayz_ and it was game on with only 9 points the difference, slender misses from Tarkyn_24 JackNah_8 and Michaels could have seen the furies lead going into the second half but the margin remained at one straight kick.

A promising second half ended up a fizzer as the Bears kicked the first 4 goals as the margin blew out to 49 points at the final change. 6 straight from the furies to end the game was unfortunately too little too late as we ended up 22 point losers

Onto out next award of the night the PHX Shield.

Named after former captain and 200 game Furies legend PHX, the PHX shield reflects that not everything is based on the randomness of the sim and the shield is given to the player adjudged to best uphold the spirit of the Furies and their commitment to the club. Previous winners including tigland 3121 premiers and sausageroll

with this in mind the Season 24 PHX Shield goes to JackNah_8

Round 13

Locked in 3rd place with 5 rounds to go we continued our up and down season in round 13 after 3 losses and then a win against the ladder leaders before having our colours lowered by the bears the Furies were out for blood hosting the Furies seconds or as they like to be known the "Mount Buller Demons"

It wasn't the best of starts as the Demons kicked 3 in as many minutes as the Furies backline did a lot of finger pointing and yelling and as cooney smashed one into the post with 4:15 gone it loked like it might be a long day for the Furies, it was at this point Wacky Tiger decided enough was enough and with Jack Riewoldt Grand Final like accuracy he kicked the next 2 behinds before a HUUUUGGGEEE fly resulted in the Furies first

the inaccuracy continued with Nuffers missing one before Wacky Tiger kicked his second and third to put the furies into the lead albeit briefly as the Demons went into the first change with a slender 4 point lead.

A magic goal before the ball was bounced for the demons saw the lead out to 10 points with a 3121 premiers goal sandwiched by wacky tigers 4th and 5th. A much better 2nd half saw the Furies take a 19 point lead into the main break and a NaturalDisaster goal with 9 gone in the 3rd saw the lead out to a match high 26 points

From there it all went pear shaped as the Demons kicked 9 goals to 3 to steam home for the victory.

With 3 rounds remaining and a finals spot still to be sewn up, we desperately needed a win as we faced the Roys for the second time an early goal from Shadow Man and a brutal hit from @cayz_ set the tone early for the Furies

Hosting the Rats in the penultimate round of season 24 and hoping to repeat the belting from last time it wasn't the best start for the Furies as the Rats kicked the first two before TJASTA set up captain Sterge for the Furies first and the jump start we needed as we hunted a possible top 4 spot

21 points at half time and this one was ours to lose and boy did we take that seriously as the Rats kicked 6 on the trot to take 9 point lead into the final term. another one to the rats before 2 from Wacky Tiger saw the margin down to only 3 points, however it wasn't to be as woeful inaccuracy saw the Furies lose by 9 points
