The first match in the 3 test series between Fiji and Nauru in Fiji was played last Friday.
Nauru 22.15 (147) defeated Fiji 7.5 (47).
Just shows that the more experienced Nauru team from a more traditional Aussie Rules country still has the edge over the impressive new comers from Fiji.
Fiji looked good taking out Division 2 at the last International Cup, but look like they still have some way to go.
The match got some coverage in both The Fiji Times and Fiji Sun newspapers.

THE Nauru Chiefs AFL side hammered the Fiji Tribe 147-47 in their first Test match at Albert Park on Friday evening.

AFL Nauru Chiefs walloped AFL Fiji Tribe 147- 47 at Albert Park yesterday.
And the hosts have a lot to learn from their Nauru counterparts.

Other 2 tests are being played this week.

Game 2 played on Tuesday.
Nauru 11.9 (75) to Fiji 5.5(35)
So a bit closer this time, but played in some fairly tough conditions.

Game 3 was played on Friday evening.
Nauru 15.13 (103) to Fiji 4.7 (31)

So Nauru easily disposing of Fiji but kudos to Fiji and their efforts especially as Nauru is a footy loving country as opposed to Fiji.

Good to see that Fiji are planning for a test against another country for next year. Might not happen but lets just see how it goes.

For Fiji, the chance to host this 3 match series was fabulous - across th3 3 games against pretty footy knowledgable opposition there was a lot to learn both on the field as players, umpiring etc.

Nauru are working towards finally getting a grassed footy oval so they too can host international footy.

It would be ideal to see more international level footy across the region to help the progression through junior footy to senior and to future coaches/umpires etc. Especially with the odd player making the trek to Australia for a season or two.
