Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

Assume that we make about 8 changes to the list this year - Kouta, Lappin, McLaren, Teague plus 4 others that have been debated enough on here already (assume Saddington, Raso, Whitnall, Young) and we pick up 8 players who are either developing youngs or make a good contribution next year, where does that leave us this time next year? Try to think 12 months ahead and who will we be delisted/retired come September/October 2008. Keep in mind that there will be a miminum of 6 changes to the list. Some tough decisions will have to be made with Edwards, Hartlett, Flint etc etc if they don't show something next year. I know they haven't been in the system long and are still young but we have to move someone on, and the facts are that usually on 1 in 3 draftees last longer than 3 years in the system. If they were on other clubs lists we'd probably all think they were junk, but on Carlton's list they are 'potential' or 'guns' or unlucky or whatever.

just on david teague the treatment of him this year has been a disgrace he could have played which would have allowed jarrad waite to play in his preffered position

Would have been delisted a year ago had he not been contracted and he knows it.

Spot on, Teague has a crack, however teams were singling him out last year and playing through his opponent on numerous times.....one eg. was when Russell Robertson kicked 7 or 8 on him last yr......Unfortunately all the endeavour in the world will not give u pace......

In reference to Fevola, he has a heap of physical ability, i cannot express that enough.....however Ted Whitten said footy is played 80% above the shoulders and thats where he is lacking significantly, i played footy for over 20 years and guys like Fevola would come in for a few yrs initially be loved by everyone but by the end of their time people would see that players like him play for themselves and individual glory........He is someone that younger people are drawn to because of the attention he gets, via the Footy show etc and his physical ability; However it is all about him and that is something I don't want our young guns looking to as a guide to football. To be successful u need footy heads at the helm who's priority is to have team success, Fevola is not a a team player or footy head....look at the succesful clubs and u have leaders at the clubs that first and foremost are footy heads and not larrikins in the media as Fevola is and Crawford (hence no longer capatin replaced by a footy head) was. Even tho Fev is not Captain he has just as much influence on the team, as we have very weak leaders at the moment unfortunately, and I don't think this is going to change in the immediate future, hence Fevola should go.

The serious guys on the footy show are Bucks, Pavlich etc etc....they are respected because there first priority is the club and thats why teams such as collingwood with a mediocre list do well because that list follows a good leader (even tho he is a collingwood ar#e).......Carlton with someone like Nick Stevens at the helm, less Fevola would develop incredbly quick.

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

My concern is how will Fev cope playing under Murph as captain?

ATM not well, given that when he was not made captain after Lances knee, he went and told the coach he wouldn't be available for the Freo game.

Stevens should be made captain next year, and lets hope, by the time Murph gets it Fev has either grown up or moved on.:thumbsu:

IMO Fev will be a gun once we start to win.
He wants to win. He believes the best way for that to happen is when he dominates.
If there is no chance of winning because everyone else is crap then why bother? (This is his thought process IMO)
When he sees that everyone else is improving and playing well, he will go to the next level.:thumbsu:

I agree totally. Fev is a matchwinner and one of those guys that can win you a flag. The poor bastard must get sick of knowing that he pretty much needs to kick a bag for us to have any shot (not so in a couple games this year but it's been generally true the last few years), and when he gets scragged like buggery and has some pretty awful delivery from the blokes kicking it to him you can understand a bit of frustration here and there.
Every genius is a little bit colser to insanity than the rest of us. Must keep the Fev.

Not that I doubt it for a second, but what is the source to say this is official?

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

Did I just hear the news on TV correctly that Teague has been delisted?
Hearing voices again J?:p

What is the T.V. telling you to do now?

What do you see when you look at this ink blot?

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

Currently have 33 on our senior list (including Aisake who is believed to have been elevated. We will probably promote Jackson and leave Jamison on the rookie list as a nominated rookie who can play next year without a long term injury occurring. This will make 34. Our first list lodgement has to be a maximum of 35 including elevated rookies so nobody else needs to be delisted yet.

We will be looking to use 1, 3, 20 and 36 in the national draft at a minimum, which takes our list up to the required 38 and then we will add 4 more rookies.

I believe we may use pick 52 and PSD pick 2 which means we have to delist two more players. Those in the firing line are Bannister, Wiggins (paying out his final season), Saddington, Whitnall, Edwards. What we have to decide is if Pick 52 in the (allegedly weak) draft would be better than any of those players or if anybody decent would be available at PSD 2.

I actually think Bannister has done enough this year to keep.
We don't have any other genuine taggers and his versatility has been great - Cornes, Johnson, Goodes, Grant.

Saddo must be secretly hoping Lances knee is really bad. Not a good sign Saddo being dropped for the last round either - I hoped he would do more this year but I think its past him.

Wiggo will stay, even if in the Teague position of VFL only - depth player if we get injuries.

Edwards has allegedly been offered 2 years, but this has been trumped by the Dees with 3............watch this space.

P.S. ODN, do you think we should have a sticky for our list. Put all guys on there and their contract status, updated when announcements are made.
We could put at the bottom the rookie rules (as this often causes confusion) and add the schollarship guys there as well.

Just a thought.

Would be great if each team board did this so we could all see who is in and out of contract.

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

damn kosi just signed a new contract bad for us
Apparently he injured himself during the contract signing - really nasty paper cut - required a bandaid but should be O.K. for their end of season trip.

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions
