Gold Coast I don't know what their maximum list size is, but I think they're full so this must be it aside from one more Cat B rookie.

Category A rookie lists can still be added to through the supplemental selection period (SSP), which runs through to the end of March. Category B rookies can be signed at any time.

The Roo isn't a Rookie - he's a scholarship player so he sits outside the cap and the list numbers,

Category B rookies include scholarship players, like the many Irishmen and Mason Cox for example. They’re outside the cap and can’t play unless replacing an LTI, which is why they are Category B. Category A is the normal rookie list.

So why are Oisín Mullin and Fionn O'Hara, who are both “International Selections”, listed as Category B rookies for Geelong and Hawthorn respectively?

Ah right, kids between the ages of 15-20 and still at school. Thought you were referring to actual international players. If they’re not listed and they can’t play, they wouldn’t be included in the playing lists.

When they finish their scholarship then they go to the Category B list as a ‘former international scholarship holder’, or as is far more common, skip the scholarship list altogether, finish school and sign directly to the Category B list.

Scholarship holder is more like being a member of a club academy, have to be between 15-20 and could still be living overseas, not allowed to play in the AFL at all and have a separate development program. I don’t think they can train with the AFL players either, though it’s not explicit in the rules, and they’re paid between $1,000-$20,000 depending on if they stay overseas or move to Australia.

An international signing is an adult who moves to Australia, trains with the AFL team, plays with the VFL or reserves team and can play in the AFL as an injury replacement from the Category B rookie list, and earns at least a normal wage (often I think it is higher than minimum as incentive).
