The 2nd goal shows what he can do - be a tall HFF with pace.
First goal came from poor defending where his man got lost and allowed him to mark just about uncontested. He won't get that luxury in the AFL

He is not going to give us a target up forward.
yep, not a key forward who can take contested pack marks ... but I think his pace may allow him to get separation for uncontested marks on the lead (if we had someone who could hit targets, that is).

Shock Horror ... who would have seen that coming?

Trained the house down ... meh, not really.

Performed in preseason games ... no.

Came from 'profession Tigers outfit' where he didn't get a run at it ... seemingly. Those 8 AFL games and 57 VFL games suggest he had chances. Noah Balta preferred at Tigerland.

Key position depth ... not really ... third tall depth.

Outperformed others in preseason ... no, by all accounts Sturgess was far more impressive.

Felt like a Clayton's process as soon as he was invited in late.

FTFY.

Don't get why people are so emotional about this.

Kemp is injured. Charlie is injured. We get to pick up a delisted/state league/undrafted player at pretty much no cost.

List is already full of talented youth who we need to be developing. Forward stocks are injury affected. 23yo, athletic, tall-ish forward to bolster the bottom of the depth stocks is a natural conclusion.

Allows us to retain a forward presence if Curnow and McKay are missing, Levi and Gov are playing seniors...and TDK maybe gets a look-in at senior level.
You need to stop saying 'it's a free hit', because to take him now means one of Charlie and Kemp cannot resume mid-season unless another LTI occurs.

Anyone have the highlight of him misssing an easy uncontested mark against Freo? Should have been a line through him straight away.
Better get rid of half the team while you're at it...

Keep in mind he was late to arrive at the club compared to the others, and has only been training with the club for a month. So he went from 2 training sessions a week, to a full professional pre-season, and then had his first match minutes with us.

I think he's an enormous mismatch at any level of the game, the only questions being his endurance, his game sense to create opportunities for himself and others, and the consistency of his kicking.

From what I've seen of his recent time at Richmond, he has done a lot of work on his kicking, and his endurance looks pretty good, so if he gets signed, he just needs to take his time and learn the systems.

People were talking up Webb for no reason given how utterly shot his body is. Cunico was always a runner without a position, like a slightly improved version of Mullett. Again, Cunico is signed to Northern, so we've got eyes on him and can take him mid-season if we're still in need.

Where are all these Sturgess reports? Kid needs more time at a much lower level from what I've seen and heard, and he's probably going to get that in the TAC. We also have the benefit of being able to play him at VFL level through the Knights-Blues connection, so he's available to us mid-season if we're happy with his progress.

Moore has the highest ceiling by far, and it's important to remember he was extremely late to the game having been a former basketballer. I hope we can sign him to the VFL team and develop him as a mid/forward, because he has way too many exciting attributes to sit outside the AFL system very long if he wants it. He's certainly working hard enough to.

Moore has also played well against us with bags of 4 and 5 goals in the VFL.

The downside being he does * all against everyone else

Kinda seems we're not overly keen on signing any of the train-on players tbh.

If someone does get it, feels like it's more because they were the best of an average bunch and we'll just take the depth, not because they wowed the coaches with the way they trained and in match practice and demanded being signed.

Moore seems like a third tall, and we already have McGovern, JSOS & Kennedy for that position.

You're talking about a system that comes after the rookie draft. If you're picking gems out of it, it's almost always because they had huge character or injury concerns (see: Stack and Pickett), not because people were blind to their talent.

The talent ID is too thorough right now for patently good players to be missed.

Yeah agreed. I wonder if we'd strongly consider leaving the spot empty.

We don't have a free list spot beyond Kemp and Curnow being LTI listed. We're at 44 listed players between senior and category A rookie lists.

45 incl 1 Cat B Int Rookie Jimmae

39 Senior players
5 Category A Rookies
1 Category B International Rookie

And now add 1 more to the list ...

Correct call if we're signing someone of the four we had training, but I still believe we shouldn't be signing anyone.
You sounded pretty optimistic regarding his potential/traits, so I was hoping we signed him. You don't think he will make it?
