I was taking a look around a website which provides scores and ladders of most VFA seasons.

Interestingly in 1912, the first semi final was replayed twice. North Melbourne and Brunswick drew the original match 9.6 (60) apiece. The game was replayed two weeks later and again the game was a draw with each team scoring 6.12 (48).

Finally, the third game produced a result with North defeating Brunswick 12.11 to 9.14.

At the time the gate money from finals was distributed evenly amongst all the VFA clubs. North Melbourne complained that playing the extra finals was sending them broke as the income from the finals matches didn't meet the cost of fielding the team.

This occurrence has of course happened in other leagues throughout the country. Two other instances I know about are from the Federal Football League in Victoria in 1965. The Preliminary final that year was drawn twice between East Malvern and Glen Huntly, with the scores in the second game being drawn on 15.10 (100) apiece.
An even more curious happening was in the South Australian North Eastern League in 1951. Blyth and Snowtown played off in the grand final of 1951 and scores were level at 12.9 (81) when the game finished. The replay the next week saw an astonishing outcome with the scores this time being Blyth 12.9 (81) to Snowtown 11.15 (81).

Freakish coincidence. What were the scores in the GF Replay Replay?

Not sure of the scores from the GF Replay Replay. I probably copied the scores from Footypedia years ago when I was obsessed with making a list of highest scores in drawn finals from around Australia, thus I only recorded the scores of the drawn games. There is a thick blue book at Melbourne Sports Books on South Australian Country football which would have the score, but I don't go there as much since it moved from the Melbourne CBD to Brunswick East. When I next go there I will remember to look in the thick blue book. Footypedia does not seem to have a Leagues link anymore.

Something along the same lines I have recently discovered: in the Lexton Football League in 1971, the 1st semi final between Natte-Bealiba and Navarre was drawn 10.11 (71) apiece. Then, in the 2nd semi, another draw occurred: Lexton 16.15 (111) drew with Avoca 16.15 (111). Back in those days of course, these games were played on the same day, and a draw also meant a replay of the game. So the Lexton League had an unexpected boost to their coffers with an extra weekend of finals. The replays saw Natte-Bealiba 8.11 (59) defeat Navarre 8.7 (55) and Avoca 13.14 (92) defeat Lexton 8.13 (61).

Another similar happening was in the Heathcote District Football League in 1973. Tooborac and Rushworth tied in the second semi, with the scores being 22.12 (144) apiece. The muddy replay saw Tooborac prevail 5.15 (45) to 4.10 (34). When Rushworth made it through to the grand final, the two teams again produced a draw, with the scores this time standing at 16.11 (107) apiece. The replay saw a one sided triumph by Tooborac: 21.21 (147) to 8.7 (55).

Is there a list of finals that were replayed in the VFL? I only know about the grand final draws in 1948, 1977, 2010 and the 1990 draw, but I can't find any a list with any others (if there were any).

You could also go here and look down the list of games for where it says GFR, PFR, QFR and 2SFR, or pick those games out from the Round drop-down box.

Ouch, draw, draw, 1 point loss

I think that would actually make it a seven point loss, 68 (10.8) to 61 (8.13). If you struggle with basic maths, I know somebody who can help.

Yeah nice one smart arse.

I was talking about the 9.10 to 8.15 game though.

Just over one hundred years on and still their finances are feeling the pinch :moustache:
