This is the first instance I can recall of the media making a call for the AFL exec to be sacked. From little things, big things grow...

No more. The AFL executive has lost its ability to govern itself, and it cannot be allowed to continue this way for the good of the sport in this country.
Let’s get one thing crystal clear at the outset: by its actions over the past 18 months, the AFL has allowed the integrity of its competition, and the discharge of good and proper administration, fall away.
This was supposed to be the year of celebrating and indulging in what’s great about this sport, after the sham of a process we were subject to regarding the “state of the game” and the pressing need to rewrite the fabric of the code last season. How’s that working for us in 2019, by the way?

West Coast supporter from Perth, doesn't mention Fyfe's elbow in same rant as Ablett...yet Fyfe's is much more serious and has the potential to cause much more damage. Not biased at all...

I do agree that there is maladministration, and that Ablett should have gotten a week, but Fyfe should have gotten at least two. We are ruling on outcome, not intent now, and it's ruining the game. Durdin should have played, Ablett and Fyfe should not of.

The biggest issue we have, is higher ups not admitting their mistakes. The Rampe issue was a mistake, and should have been cited as one. Hasn't happened in decades, so its understandable that no-one knew what the hell was going on. To not admit fault, however, shows a lack of transparency and shows that the AFL is losing integrity week by week.

The abolishment of that ridiculous '100 metre penalty', is one that needs to happen immediately. It's a farce, and it pretty much always means a guaranteed shot on goal. Hasn't been one time where I haven't cringed

Hold up. It’s a West Coast supporter that hasn’t taken an opportunity to take a potshot at Fremantle? Perhaps, instead of being biased, they felt it more important to point out that the AFL is failing to take action on someone who is making a habit of elbowing people, rather than talking about every single other one-off time it’s happened?

'Making it a habit'? This is the second time in his 300+ game career. The first one was clumsy, the second one, should have been a week. It's been pointed out that Ablett has never had to block players like running half backs, in the forward half, given that he's been a predominant midfielder. Still not on, but making it a habit is a bit of a joke, lol. Fyfe is the one who has made it a habit of infringing/being suspended over his career.

The AFL absolutely needs more governance, they have to help responsible to their constituents - the fans - to some degree. We might be in a bubble here on big footy, thinking our opinion is the norm, maybe it isn't and the vast majority of fans are pro-these rule changes and the administration of the game. But I would hazard a guess to say that isn't the case.

At some point, the AFL Commission must surely intervene in all of this. Chairman Richard Goyder has run the most powerful conglomerate in Australia, and now chairs two of Australia’s most powerful players in Qantas and Woodside. A rolling mess of errors, missteps and poor governance by Alan Joyce or Peter Coleman simply would not be tolerated. They would be removed.
Ryan's got an extremely generous view of corporate Australia

Although the top levels need a cleanout this is an appallingly bad assessment/rant/meltdown.

That guy cannot write to save himself and the points he makes are laughably bad. A 5 year old could destroy him.

The fact he thinks 100m penalty is a bad thing is enough for me to put him down in the evergrowing pile of people who simply need to be bred out of the species. That level of stupid serves no positive purpose.

It’s a bloody good read. You can judge the piece without worrying about where it’s published.

For “propa footy media”, you basically have the major newspapers, which are contracting at a rate of knots and just have same few writers who’ve been there for decades, or you have the AFL’s own website. It’s rubbish. Nothing wrong with a view from elsewhere.

Agree with all of that. The 100m sprint down the ground just looks ridiculous. That should be enough.

Yes, the AFL is in bed with media and gambling companies, but not until players and clubs start complaining about the money falling on their heads will that change. Until it does it doesn't matter who is running the league.
