I Have been an avid reader of the carlton bigfooty forums for way longer than i care to admit. Enjoyed '95 perhaps not enough at the time (thinking erroneously) that more success was imminent, wrongly so. We all know how wrong it went from that point on.

The Brisbane Lions circa 2012 are no world beaters, this i know, but there was something different about tonights win.....

Let me state that my first ever OP is not about how i believe that tonights win confirms that we are certain 2012 premiers or even possible grandfinalists.

Only THAT for the first time in 15 or so years (a ****ing long time) i felt that feeling. Almost forgot what it felt like,

To know with certainty that we were the better side, and not just on the night.

That our 1st tier players are genuinely so , that our 2nd tier players are better than average.

That our coach is not just "hired" or "employed" but that he bleeds blue!.

That the very same Carrazzos and Russells that were so maligned not so long ago have become the Adrian Gleesons of their era, or the sort of "depth player" bottom 8 sides wish and they had.

Ladies And Gentlemen, Winning a premiership is no guarentee this year, the next, or the one after that, but god damn it, We're in the game!

And it FEELS good......:D

Next week will be a big challenge (Collingwood), i go in with supreme confidence, not because i think we will win, but because even if we lose, come September we will be a big, no wait, a massive concern for at least 7 other sides.

Go Baggers!!!

Good wins against Richmond and Brisbane are great but we are aiming for a top 4 finish. The real test and indicator that the team has improved enough will be whether we can beat teams like Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood or West Coast which we failed to do last year.

True and this comes down to how well Juddy and Murphy can shake their tags (and what help they get to do so)

Nice first OP uncle :thumbsu:

Totally, totally agree with all that. It bloody feels awesome again and I never want to lose this feeling again, ever.:thumbsu:

You're just feeling that now? You sure you were around in 95?

He was saying for the first time in 15 years or so.

I felt that way when Kouta was on song in 2000 so less than 15 for me.

We actually look like a dangerous team now. The best part (aside from watching genuine superstars like Judd and Murphy go about it) is that we've got a shit ton of hard nuts that are willing to put themselves in harm's way to win the football. The balance between possession-winning guns, goal scoreres, key key defenders and hard nuts has returned.

Also, I just realised how much Yoda looks like Bret Thornton.

I'm going to wait till we play collingwood to see how good we actually are, I think we are getting too excited about beating the tigers and lions.

these are 2 games we had to put in the bag but the true tests are yet to come
keep a lid on it

we're supporters not players - save it for the change room coach.

Original post -
"we looked sensational", correct,
"big test next week", correct,
"has been a long time since all the aspect of the team looked great, even if against Brisbane", correct

- "keep a lid on it" - misplaced, misguided.

Personally think we will beat Pies - happy to slog it out with them - best part about supporting a club is the banter, "keeping a lid on it" destroys the entire fun of supporting, unless you take it waaaay too seriously or think your the coach.

perhaps but it will not be long until the usual suspects after an inevitable loss start up the Sack Ratts, where is plan B, bring back Fev etc threads
keep a lid on it means keep things in perspective be it after a win or a loss

I was referring to the bolded line. Sheesh ...

In that case, I'd counter with his 14 year playing career along with being club captain for 18 months. 1995, he was still but a pup, though it was a stellar season.

yeah I felt that way too, I don't think we realised just how much of a 1 man band we were back then until Kouta went down, still could have just about taken us all the way regardless he was just that dominant.

first time i met kouta was before the parade on friday before the 95 GF
that was one hell of a pup we had

My boyfriends a HUGE Carlton fan and he's certainly feeling it. I know because we watched the game against Brisbane together and I had to listen to him.

Because of our relationship Carlton has become my "second team" so I hope you guys finish top two. But as I'm hoping to see my Eagles in the grand final I dont really want to see you there. Our relationship survived the Semi-Final last year but I'm not sure if it will survive a Grand Final. ; )

From an outsiders view though I certainly consider you a serious chance for the premiership. Just behind Hawthorn but based on Collingwoods performance the last two games ahead of them. I guess the next match will show where your at. Best of luck guys! Gonna be a great game.

If we beat Collingwood this week, than I am with you on this, I will allow myself to be excited. I know we can do it against Geelong, and Eagles, Hawks will be a very strong test and we need to stop their streak against us but if we get over the pies this week, im on board with you.
