I had wagers (at long odds) for both the eagles and dogs to be in the GF! 🙈

Bloody hell, watching Liam Ryan ya realise how many garbage touches our players have. Statistically hes never gonna be a top rated player but he's unreal

Also wtf is this finals series, thought the dogs and Eagles were sure things. That's crazy af
I tipped Geelong and Richmond, had Saints/Dogs at 50/50 but thought Collingwood would get up. When their backs are against the wall, they're a bloody good side. Not sure they can keep that up for a few more weeks though.

Strange feeling knowing I won't hear Jobe Watson randomly try and put words together to form a sentence for another few days.
I miss it.

Call me bitter but I hate seeing teams like St Kilda and Brisbane go past us. Screw you Goody.
Me too.

But it is nice to reflect on the fact that of the two elimination final winners, we beat one and murdered the other by 10 goals.

I can handle St Kilda to a certain extent they were level with us in those rebuilding years 14-16 then they completely fell off in 2017 and 2018 with an improving 2019. Maybe we aren't too far off for rebounding after the last two seasons if we can have a good draft trade period. Watching Brisbane though there'sba lot to be envied.

On other rebuilds comparison I feel gold coast are like Melbourne 2014 had some good wins early in the season but ran out of momentum late in the season. I expect them to push for finals in 2 years.

All those posters clamouring for Chris Scott as a master coach earlier in the year with yet another finals defeat. Told ya. ;)

Thoroughly out coached by Hinkley on the weekend off the back of 10 goal loss during the season.

Just thought I'd leave this here - comment from 25/10/2017 (which you liked):

From last year's equivalent thread, where we were linked with him from Knightmare's mock draft, I wrote:

Have seen a bit of Liam this season. Can do a lot of phenomenal things, that's for sure. I reckon after half a season at Casey he'd be a chance to challenge Jeffy for a spot (especially if Jeffy continues to play the way he did after he signed a new contract).

But then we went and upgraded bloody Wagner instead...

It's sickening, shows how bad recruiters still are when someone like him slips that far.
In an alternate reality they draft kids on talent alone and kids like Ryan, Rioli etc are top 5 draft picks and the tall forwards who are just tall are the speculative rookie picks

Meh, not sure you can blame him for that loss. They took it up to the best team in the AFL at their home deck and if their key forward didn't shit himself infront of goal they could have won.

flogged them earlier in the year, lost to them in the finals.

Would have helped if they had a plan outside of everything thru Hawkins and pray he kicks goals from the boundary 45m out.

Feel like it would be the same result as Bruce, Schache etc
Probably but they don't need a bloke who can kick goals, they need a tall bloke to stand in the square and draw attention and bring it to ground to let all their midsize guys get to work.

How much of that can you pin on the coach? You reckon he goes from being one of the greatest home and away coaches of all time to losing the dressing room in finals?
Not sure how he can be 'out coached' by a bloke who's been a failure for about 7 years with his list but if he makes a run to a flag this year then he will be considered a 'better' coach.

It's not about losing the players come finals time, it's about making adjustments in game when things aren't working like they did during the season.

It's way too much of a thing now not to be considered a genuine problem. What was their record in first weeks finals games since 2011? 2-7 ? From such a good team that's a shithouse record.

You can't really make huge in game adjustments though runners only come out after goals now thanks to Hocking and they only get 30s. 6/6/6 is also in place so other than dropping a winger back or bringing an extra to the stoppage there's not much you can change.

17 scoring shots to 13
Levelled inside 50s
Had 6 more marks inside 50

Only stat they struggled in are clearances which they lost by 8. Other than that he set his team up to win but his key forward missed 6 shots on goal.

Ultimately one team kicked at 70% at goal the other at 30%. Coach can't do anything about that.

We were 3 picks short in 2017 - West Coast got him with 26 and we had 29 as our first pick (Spargo). At least all the players we selected (also Fritsch, Petty and Baker) are still at the club. Looking like a reasonable draft that one.

2016 would've been a gamble but as I said in my post, used the spot to upgrade Wagner instead (and took Dion Johnstone in the 4th round) :drunk:

Geelong confirmed everything we already knew about them. Completely impotent in finals, Chris Scott is a terrible coach and Hawkins cant kick straight under pressure. I expect Collingwood to roll them easily.

West Coast v Collingwood game was easily the best game of the first round and perhaps the year thus far. If Melbourne has played WC away first round we would have got beaten by 10 goals. And yet we thrashed Collingwood earlier in the year? Regardless of what you think about the Pies, they usually bring their A game to finals (up until the the second half of Grand Finals, of course). They'll be a decent chance to play in a GF if they can play two more games the way that they did on the weekend.

Brisbane beating Richmond surprised me. It would a great story if the Lions can host a GF at the Gabba considering where they were a couple of years ago.

Port will now have to beat Richmond (who I think will easily overcome St K) to make the GF, who wont be as weak as Geelong so they'll certainly be made to earn their GF appearance.
