Finals - Don't think so

Yeah have thought this for a while - just can't match it with those above us..

Or below us actually.

Well surely after 2 games of beating finals contenders you saw us making the finals. Whether we do anything at all in the finals is the question, based on today you'd reckon not.

We might have beaten north and the blues but with the teams we play in the next 4 weeks and the draw other teams have, there is a good chance we miss out

Now outsiders with the bookies to even make the finals, let alone top 6, and even if we do, I really don't fancy many will be travelling to watch us get shellacked by Hawthorn or Freo.

Cannot predict with this Swans side. I HATE them today, but, injuries have been cruel this year and you never know when they are gonna come good for a game. it could be against anyone....but I am not really hopeful, LOL....

prior to this game i was dreaming of a top 4 spot (hence the ill-timed thread) but after this mauling we're in serious doubt of even making finals...

we're a chance of beating freo...but geelong, hawthorn & doggies are all gonna be very tough assigments...and brisbane isn't gonna be a gimme in rnd 22...they're gonna be playing for pride...

goes to show there are no easy wins

Using the finals predictor we amazingly can still make it with one more win and teams like Collingwood, Geelong, St Kilda, Bulldogs and even Freo doing what they should based on ladder position and Adelaide having the occasional hickup which is hard to see based on their form.

Still as soon as you start thinking mathematically you might be gone.

I don't care about how they would go in the finals I think most people can suggest who the real challengers are but the goal for the season for me was to see finals again so quickly after missing out so will be disapointed when they don't make it.

Negative - Yes but after such a huge loss that's my mindset.

I thought this year would be a roller-coaster but I didn't think that would mean being smashed like that. No finals this year I'm afraid.

Probably comes down to the Hawthorn game. It will be tough, but that one is winnable.

Pity we are in this situation now though....finals looks unlikely.

Fck me, it's ONE game. Yes, a very disappointing one, but every team has copped a thrashing in recent years ... actually, every team bar us. Collingwood beat the Cats by 86 in Geelong's flag year 2007, from memory.

Next week is a long way away.

Actually next week is 7 days away, just like every other week.

well firstly, a huge thanks goes to essendon & port today...they've kept our challengers at bay while we did our best to not make the 8...so we're in the same position at the end of rnd 17...*wipes sweat off brow*

another interesting point to mention is that the bulldogs play north next week, adelaide in rnd 19....then geelong...then us in rnd 21...

wb are finally hitting their straps and should account for both nm & adelaide (fingers crossed)...and we'll have a shot at them after they come up against geelong...so if ever we had a good chance at toppling the dogs for a rare win, this would be the time...

hawks are always winnable for us...but their form is steadily improving...it's a tough ask, but a win is possible....

and we can beat freo...it'll be a tough ask at subi...but their form is tapering...

we should account for brisbane...i'm locking it in as a win (nope, still haven't learned from the rich/melb games) but if we're worthy of finals we will beat brisbane and beat them well

top 4 is out of reach, a home final is probably also out of reach...heck, the finals are almost out of reach and we're sitting 2 games ahead of our closest rivals...but avoid hawthorn in the elimination final and we're a chance...

Christ, that was depressing. Had to head into work after that, and it's put me in a petulant, can't-be-****ed sulk. Akin to what I witnessed on the field today.

We lost to Melbourne by a record margin under Roosy's tenureship. 73 points!! And we also lost to Richmond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why wouldn't you want to play finals? Losing in a final would be more fitting way to bow out than a cheap win against the Lions at the GABBA.

Exactly. When finals are within reach everything ought to be done by the club to get there. That is why these guys go out and play. You reckon Roosy and Kirky don't wanna make the finals at any cost in their last years at this club they turned into a perennial finals contender?

Adelaide losing today has seriously improved our chances of making the finals.

North, who are 2 games in arrears, have to play the dogs, freo, st kilda, melbourne, west coast (away). The rest are effectively 3 wins behind us, and really only Melbourne have the sort of draw where they could potentially get through to the top 8.

It looks like we will finish 8th and play Freo (5th) at Subi. It would be a horrid way for Roos and Kirk to bow out.
Funnily enough I think we're better off playing Freo than we are playing the Hawks. There's a long way to go, I know, but Freo are starting to look like a tired team...Aaargh, i dunno. After today it doesn't seem to matter that much I think. And next game is against bloody Geelong:(

There are NO predictable results, today proved that

I used the ladder predictor and admittedly gave a couple of 50/50 to North and Crows and gave us 1 win in round 22 and we came ninth.

We need to turn on the form at home by beating either the Hawks or Dogs and catching freo on the slide to ensure we make the finals really.
