Finals Opponent

Win on Saturday would mean going up against Carlton or North first week and then most likely Sydney at the SCG in week 2 if we win.
Loss means we will go up against Port if the Pies win and then most likely against Freo at Subi in week 2 is we win. Or if the pies lose, then it would be the same as if we won.
Would have to say I wouldn't be too dissapointed if we lose.
 
Here are the possibilities:

If we win:
- Carlton win we play Carlton end of story.
- Carlton/Brisbane lose & North win we play North
- Carlton lose and Brisbane win we play Brisbane
- Carlton Brisbane & North lose and Crows win by 40 we play Crows

If we lose:
- Pies win we play Port
- Pies Carlton lose we play North
- Pies lose Carlton win we play Carlton
- Pies Carlton lose and Brisbane win we play Brisbane

If we draw:
- Pies win we play Port
- Pies lose Carlton win we play Carlton
- Pies Carlton lose we play North

Think that covers all the possibilities for next week. Looks like today will be an exciting day depending on how results go. For mine us and Carlton winning would be the best result as we'd likely cop Saturday night at the MCG against the Blues.

Thought as much... Probably takes away a little bit of the Swans advantage, although they looked alright fit 3 quarters last night at ANZ.

Jeez Carlton have poor skills... A pea heart effort so far knowing before the first bounce all they needed to do was win.

If the Blues dont come back, Its now in our best interest for Port to beat them by as much as possible killing their % so Adelaide only need a small win vs Eagles to get into the 8. Alternatively everyone falls over and the Blues stay in the 8 and we have them.

All depends in Roos getting done tomorrow of course.

Have a little faith. Two weeks ago we were really poor, couldn't buy a goal, had a couple out, and were coming off a heavy training period... and lost by less than 2 kicks. Every chance of reversing that result next week.
 
Playing in Sunday, what a joke!!! The Collingwood and port game should be on the Sunday.

Heres what we need to do to get to the second round.

Have the capability to handle and counter the possible man to man strategy if Malthouse thinks he's losing.
Get rid of Martin's possible tag.
Ellis will probably get some attention, so we need to be able to handle that.
Deledio to turn the heat up with lethal passes inside 50 or 50m goals.
Vickery and Maric to be clunking marks from every possible kick-out.
Nullify Murphy and Mclean.
Help out Riewoldt so he can get involved.
1%ers need to go out the roof.
Contested possessions need to go to another level.
Vickery and Edwards need to be isolated so there can't be any intercept marks. Vickery has the height and Edwards has the leading ability. EYES NEED TO BE LOWERED. GREED WILL NOT BE APPRECIATED AND UNNECESSARY SELFLESSNESS WILL ALSO NOT BE APPRECIATED.
Do not underestimate anyone.
Maric needs to be in form.
Last of all. All goals. No behinds.

I mentioned this possibility in another thread earlier in the week.
It is because in week 2 of the finals, the WAFL has booked Subiaco out for a Rugby Union international on the Saturday night, meaning that for the AFL to avoid the disaster of having Freo play a home final away from their ground (if they lose this week) that game would have to be the Friday night.

To do that and be fair about it, they can't have the Collingwood v Port game on the Sunday then have the winner have to back up for a game in Perth 5 days later against a team that has had an extra day break. Therefore that game has to be on Saturday.

The real disadvantage of this is that the winner of Sunday's game has a 6 day break vs the loser of Friday night's game having an 8 day break.

Blame the WAFL for this (and remember it next week when we're complaining about the Swans having 2 extra days on us).

Well that's freos misfortune then, we shouldn't be disadvantaged because another team can't look at a calendar properly. We finished higher therefore we should get every advantage first week of finals.

I didn't say it was right, just trying to explain what I think is the league's reasoning.

There is always someone coming out of the finals schedule with a disadvantage. Given the WAFL has forced the league away from their preferred scheduling, it wouldn't surprise me if the league sending Freo to Simmonds is their punishment.
