Finals Over

yes its that time of year again when everybody who doesnt support the pies bags the ******** through them. I think that its currently safe to say that the finals are over and I have a few ideas to help us in years to come and hope that all of you will have your input aswell.

Idea 1 - bring in Russling, Iacobucci, J.Cloke, possibly 1 of the shaws and let them all play in key positions. If we give those types a go in the 1sts it would be good for our team depth and also great to see some of them have a run.

Idea 2 - try new positions with the current senior players, i.e: Tarrant on the wing, Buckley at CHF, T.Cloke in the ruck, C.Cloke in the ff posy. It cant hurt to try new things as through all realism I cannot see us making any finals contentions.

Aint over till its over. We have won games on the trot before and can do it again. The draw is reasonably favourable from here on, with Brisbane (away) and Adelaide (away) the two toughest, along with Port and StKilda. If we get away with three out of the next four our season is still alive. Eight wins out of the nine remaining games and we're in the finals (long bow I know)

We've lost four games by a kick this year (including two against top four teams) , and beaten the other two of the top four. We need to keep striving for the win, not for the least reason is that it gives our young players something to look forward to in the future.

We need to play the kids, but only if their form justifies selection. B Shaw and Yakka are next in line to recieve a call-up plus a return to the ones for Rusling Cole J Cloke and Davies later in the season. We have spent 2005 weeding out the riff-raff (Williams Lokan etc) and need to continue doing so. But we dont have to sacrifice games in order to develop these kids. They need to learn a winning culture not a losing one. If we get onto a winning streak and finish ninth, so be it.

We wouldn't be premiership contenders but we could do some damage in September. If you look at the teams we have beaten we are capable of anything. Also when you look at most of the top teams, they may fail in September as they don't have many dynamic key forwards. Our pressure football might of done some damage in the finals.

The season is not mathematically over yet!

Adelaide over at AAMI will be the hardest challenge for the boys, but our record over in Adelaide is good. If St Kilda continue to travel the way they are, I am sure we can beat them in an upset. We always struggle to beat Brisbane over in Brisbane, so you'd probably write us off against them, but i'm still hoping we can beat Brisbane. Also, Port Adelaide will be another tough challenge, but their record at the Telstra Dome is poor. All the rest are pretty much winnable games.

Personally I'm writing our finals chances off this year. As long as we play the way we have been I don't mind. To be honest I don't care if we lose every game except the ones against Brisbane and Essendon. Carlton to draw against us and hopefully somehow lose their priority picks

Port Adelaide will be another tough challenge, but their record at the Telstra Dome is poor.

Since 2000 (when it opened!) Port's record at Colonial Stadium/Telstra Dome/Docklands makes for an interesting read:
Lost their first four games (three in 2000, one in 2001), then won their next SEVEN (going from 2001 to the end of 2003), and have lost their past three (two last year, one this year). Hopefully we will be loss number four in a row for Port before they start another "winning streak" at the Dome!

And for the record, OUR record is 10-6 since the start of 2003, but our last five have been W-L-W-L-W.
