The crucial thing for the Hawks is to get Lake and Gibson up the ground. Gibson will play on Crameri, Lake on Bellchambers/Ryder. All three are capable of launching goals from 50 out so they have to pay attention to them. We isolate Hurley and Winderlich on Stratton and Guerra in the goalsquare, not allowing Lake and Gibson to get back to help

If Hurley keeps improving I'm guessing one of Lake or Gibson will go to him. I reckon Stratton will be playing on the ruckman. I agree with you that Winderlich will be crucial also. Not sure how we'll match up on Buddy, but I think Carlisle going with him inside 50 and Pears following him up the ground, if he goes that way. Of course playing a zone type defense against Hawthorn is very dangerous with the disposal skills across their side.

I would love to see a Full strength Carlisle going one on one with buddy. Buddy is not a great contested mark and I think Carlisle would have the reach on him.

I am similar to BPB. I want us to play against the finals hardened teams, not those making up the numbers. If we lose then so be it, we will learn way more than playing (and beating) a side that scrapes into 8th and then getting smacked the following week.

Therefore I want us to finish top 4 and take it from there given the top 4 will include at minimum Geelong and Hwathorn.

Collingwood I didn't choose on the poll but with Beams and Ball back playing they become a different proposition.

Nah, they can't put Stratton on the ruckmen. He gives away at least 3 inches. If we do play Hawthorn in finals I would actually play this side:

Dempsey (Puopolo) - Hooker (Franklin) - Hurley/Pears (Gunston)
Stanton (I Smith) - Watson (Shiels) - Heppell (Rioli)
Crameri (Gibson) - O'Brien (Mitchell) - Ryder (Lake)
Davey (Duryea) - Gumbleton/Hurley (Stratton) - Winderlich (Guerra)
Bellchambers (Bailey) - Hocking (Hodge) - Goddard (Burgoyne)
Melksham (Lewis) - Myers (Whitecross) - Kavanagh (Hill)

I would play Bellchambers mostly in the ruck to bash and crash and play Ryder up forward, and when they sub Bailey off I'd get Tommy to go hard at Hale for 5-10 minutes, then sub him off, move Carlisle/Hurley forward and use Gumby/Carlisle as a chop out in the last
