Finals Umpiring: Time for a Royal Commission?

It's naive to think a poorly umpired half that heavily favours one team couldn't destroy any momentum and confidence of a team in it's first GF.
I don't doubt Tigers were deserved premiers, nor that they were the better team, yet the umpiring was so poor it did not allow a fair contest

Good point about bad decisions destroying player's confidence.

I'm sure Jack Reiwoldt would have kicked 10 if not for the failure to pay the clear mark he took on the 50 meter line when the game was only a minute old.

Can't believe the umpires consistently fail to pay clear frees to Richmond players. Obviously the AFL worded them up about the importance of a GWS win. It's only fortunate that Richmond are such a clearly superior team and could play well enough to overcome the umpiring bias.

Thanks for bringing this problem to our attention.

yep- let's focus on the only decision that went against richmond- was clearly a mark- but let's be honest, umps felt so bad at upsetting poor jack they paid you back in spades.
You were the better team- the umpiring simply killed the game

Well, at least you got one thing right.

This thread first has fans of teams playing GWS in their first finals screaming that umpiring favoured the AFL love-child, GWS. Then in the Granny when everyone decided they couldn't stand Richmond to win again and jumped on the Big Big Bandwagon, suddenly its all about umpiring favouring Richmond.

People see what they want to see. It's stupid to think that umpiring is the reason teams win or lose, especially when a team loses by a huge margin.

Richmond is the least favoured team for free kicks in the last 3 years or so.

Umps weren't great, but they weren't terrible and had no impact on the game.

To suggest otherwise is childish!

Umpires destroyed the only interesting part of the game- first half.
