Gemma Houghton gotta bin the right-foot checkside shot while running away from goal, probably would've won the goalkicking this year if she'd been slowly developing a left foot over the last ~5 years.

Port's forward line is gonna be a tough juggling act for Lauren Arnell next year, unless you just assume Young and Ewings (if she's there) are going to be instant full-time additions to the midfield. I'd be getting Houghton up on the wing wayyyy more.

Think the turnout was actually a little bigger than I was expecting in these conditions.
Ended up 4387 so easily cleared the sub-3k that I was half-expecting, especially when NMFC sent out the please come texts at 6pm last night.

I highly doubt we'll see Hannah Ewing's in AFLW again.

She's missed this season because of personal reasons, but the personal reasons would be she's unable to maintain the fitness standards required and being told she's overweight would be bad for her mental health.

Wouldn't be the first player to have early career issues before turning things around, but I agree history suggests the likelihood of this is low.

Could be a barnburner tonight. Should be. And this stat is too ph-erin-omenal to not reiterate:
Adelaide with Erin Phillips have a 3-2 win-loss record vs Brisbane, while Adelaide without Erin Phillips are 0-7 vs Brisbane.

Home teams are also 11-0 in preliminary finals now.

Looks like another great crowd at Springfield Central Stadium / Brighton Homes Arena / Michael Voss Oval.

The Brisbane faithful have once again voted with their feet. They sure do love their new spiritual home!

Hodder nice finish is then met with an instant response from Randall. The competition's two best WA players trading blows!

Genuine contest so far. If you are watching the farcical cricket instead, you're just a sucker.

Yes brilliant third quarter but if we do make it will need to play 4 quarters like that to challenge north

BL had already shifted the balance of the contest but those soft efforts from Kelly and Biddell early in Q3, both a couple metres out from Brisbane goal, were huge floodgate opening moments.

per Michael Whiting of AFL.com.au:

BEST
Brisbane:
Grider, O’Dwyer, Anderson, C.Svarc, Hodder, Davidson, Koenen
Adelaide: Marinoff, Randall, Biddell, Hatchard, Ponter

2 behinds, 8 touches, 1 uncontested mark...

If you're gonna big-up a low-disposal game from somebody, it'd have to be Martin who was at least fierce in the contest.

Wasn't gonna be their year once Jones went down. Last year looks like the real self-inflicted big missed opportunity.

And it goes back to the home QF vs Brisbane which they started out with a palpable cbf attitude. This finals series was the first time since S6 in which they actually seemed hungry. Couldn't make up for the problems they had forward of centre though.

Once Randall retires, or can no longer sustain a high level of physicality, the idea of the Crows still being genuine contenders seems implausible. Unless they bring in a whizzbang player who can fill the void (perhaps even from across town).

Apart from last week's fourth quarter, Port throughout the season pretty much played at the level I was expecting, and yet they clearly overshot my tip for them to win the wooden spoon.

Some teams didn't improve like I expected, while others fell off steeply due to unexpected injuries (the season was too short for Geelong to recover), and Port were there to both benefit and cop a PF hiding as a result.

Harder draw next year should be balanced out a little bit with the re/additions of Young and Tahau (and maybe Ewings) and Cuthbertson to a lesser degree.

Should be an enticing battle in the GF. I guess the big question is will North choke AGAIN?

With her third goal yesterday, Vikki Wall became the sixth North Melbourne player to kick double figure goals for the season.

Teen Wolf may know more about this than me, but I think this is the first time a team has had more than three players kick double figure goals in a single season.
