Ok So I know the basics.

1v4
2v3
5v8
6v7

now after this I'm not sure

winner of 5 vs 8 plays loser of 1v4 or 2v3?
winner of 6vs 7 plays loser of 1v4 or 2v3?

Just trying to figure it out in my head as to know who we are likely to play in the semis if we get that far.

Second week:

LOSER (1 v 4) hosts WINNER (5 v 8)
LOSER (2 v 3) hosts WINNER (6 v 7)

Then there's a third week "crossover" so that week three cannot be a repeat of week one.

If Sydney loses tomorrow we'll finish 7th. Then we'll be baracking like mad for West Coast (3) to defeat Port Adelaide (2). Because otherwise, should we win and the Eagles lose, we're off to Subi for the semis.

If Sydney wins tomorrow we'll finish 8th. That means we'll be playing in Melbourne in each of the first two weeks. In this situation we'd - just quietly ;) - want Port to beat West Coast. Because it puts us on course for a Footy Park prelim (rather than a Subi prelim), should we get that far.

So we are better off with Sydney winning & finishing 8th.

Port beat the Eagles, then if we are good enough we get an "away" preliminary at AAMI stadium - with our 2 danger teams Eagles & Cats potentially in the other prelim.

On the assumption that Port Adelaide beat Fremantle and West Coast (a fair assumption in my view), then yes, it is best we finish 8th.

Go Swannies.

OK

SO we want Sydney to beat Hawthorn tomorrow

That would mean we want

Us to beat Hawthorn (winable)
Geelong to beat Kangaroos
Port to beat West Coast

Week 2
Us to beat Kangaroos (winable)

Week 3
Us to beat Port Adelaide (winable)

Week 4
Us to beat Geelong (hard but it would be a GF)

See all sorted, and that is surely a better path to the GF than even the last 2 years.

Fair dinkum I will wet myself if that occurs:D:thumbsu:

OK, presuming that Kangaroos beat the Bulldogs, how will the first round of the finals play out based on the Sydney/Hawthorn result?

If Sydney win:

Friday Night: Collingwood vs Sydney - MCG
Saturday Afternoon: Hawthorn vs Adelaide - MCG
Saturday Night: Port Adelaide vs West Coast - AAMI
Sunday Afternoon: Geelong vs Kangaroos - MCG

(Is this right? I have heard though that Geelong might request a Saturday afternoon final... how will that change our game?)

If Hawthorn win:

Friday Night: Collingwood vs Adelaide - MCG
Saturday Afternoon: Kangaroos vs Sydney - TD
Saturday Night: Port Adelaide vs West Coast - AAMI

Go the Swannies :thumbsu:

and Carn the Power :o. Eww. I feel so dirty.

and to think i congratulated your mob after the win today :thumbsd:

Hey, if supporting the ferals in week one, means we get a dream run to a prelim, where we get to hand them their backsides on a platter, then I'm all for it :thumbsu:

So you bloody well should have congratulated us. What a grand performance. They kicked the last 6 goals too, should have been a far greater margin.

You should have been at Prospect today, we were more interested in the Bays-Bluesx2 score than the North match as that was extremely boring.. we were cheering every score we heard and there was even a bit of 'oh we're from tigerland' thrown in haha

The second scenario looks extremely tough. Assuming wins and no upsets in other games:

Week 1: Collingwood v Adelaide (tough but slight favourites)
Week 2: West Coast v Adelaide (very tough but WC not at their best)
Week 3: Geelong v Adelaide (very tough but finals pressure...who knows with the cats)
Week 4: Port Adelaide v Adelaide (tough but if we get there no worse than 50:50 with that form).

Alternatively, as PrideofSA said, the first scenario is actually an easier path on paper than our previous two attempts. Our ladder position once the finals begins is nothing but a memory of a poor (by our standards) minor round which will be irrelevant to our performance in the next 4 weeks. Besides Hentschel and Bassett, we have our best side on the park. If Sydney win tomorrow, we are as good a show as any, except Geelong.

Port only 4 points up at 3/4 time:eek: Does anyone know exactly how much they need to win by to finish second? Cannot be much.

If Port finish third, the DreamII prelim suddenly looks like a Nightmare at Subi, though wouldn't surprise if Port upset them over there given WC form. If Port lose next week and Hawks win tomorrow, it could mean a DreamII semi

Having said that, Freo will crumble in the last.
