Thanks, man. I'm finishing 2016 atm, and yup, same question will be asked about the Arnolds for 2016-17-18! Also, the Rainbirds. Sportingpulse has a few gaps. After that, there are about 20 players I can't find first names for...

Stop me at any time! Thanks for tolerating my pain-in-the-arse question barrage...

All good. Happy to help anyway I can.

Just a couple queries below where I have no record of the player kicking a goal, or a different first initial

All finished. 2009-18 goals done and dusted, all players differentiated and accounted for, and it all adds up...

D.Alexander R04-10 v NLTON. This would have been copied from the site around that time, and since then it appears Blackberry has been substituted for them (probably the day after I copied it!). Do you concur with this moving Blackberry from 16 to 17 for the season...?

Also, P.Bellchambers was J.Bellchambers all along...I just copied it wrong...!

There was last one I missed as well - T.Netherway of Hobart who kicked 4 in 2012...this is the last one...!

Can't overstate how thankful I am for your help here. I've been into this stuff since the mid-80's, got a few notebooks here and there full of gems but missing things I wish I'd bothered to write down back then, and have always thought how cool it would be to have easily obtained stats available on Tas footy, just like the comprehensive material you get for the AFL. I don't have the luxury of walking down to the library and accessing old Tasmanian newspapers either, living up here amongst the crocs, cassowaries and cyclones, so I'm reliant on the internet, which comes with its own pitfalls in data entry accuracy and site shutdown! Logged onto the VFL site only today, trying to help someone identify a Suns 2010 jumper they were trying to sell, only to see they've deleted all previous season scores except for 2018. Same thing happened when the NTFL changed to the NWFL - all previous years vanished. Got an idea in my head to produce a couple of all-scores bookazines, similar to the Rugby League annuals you see every year, and pitching it to AFL Tas in time for their 150th in 2029 - I estimate 2-3 volumes would cover it (e.g. Pre-WW2, WW2-1980's, then Statewide onwards or something like that) and you'd have room to stick a bundle of photos in there too...

One other thing - how have you gone with collating games played? Not asking for them, just wondering. I'm baulking at attempting the task, because it's so frigging huge and potentially full of gaps and inaccuracy if I attempt it with my usual methodology. I'd be quite happy to leave it if it wasn't for the nagging fact that it's a core stat in any history of footy...

T.Netherway - Tarquin

That looks like what happened with Jay. I have him down for 17, including one in Rd 4.

I have actually given up on games. I had been doing it from raw data, but that was incomplete. Even in the years I had finalised I had clubs saying it was incorrect. One club President years ago said his son had played more games than what I had listed! (Thanks for updating SP). From a request to clubs for info, I only received it from one. Very helpful guy... unfortunately his records didn't tally. For one season it averaged out at about 16 players used per game. A lot of the teamsheets aren't available so it isn't possible. Clubs can maintain their own milestones in regards to games.

For goals AFL Tas has pretty much said that what is in SP is what they will work on. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Out of interest, can I see what you have for Devonport in Rd 3 2010?

That was the one I had a world of trouble getting. Finally got it direct from the club, so just wanted to make sure you had received the accurate info.

I realised what an idiot I am when I saw you had replied.

When the correct goals were tracked down a couple of years ago, SP was also updated. So naturally you would have the correct ones. Oops

Ok, here's another one:

I have Clarence as having played 8 home games in 2012, and Glenorchy 10 (all teams played 9). According to both Wiki and SP, Clarence played Glenorchy at KGV in R01 and R15, and at Bellerive game in R10. Interestingly, Clarence is the first named team in R01.

Options:
1) SP and Kingpin (!) have it wrong, and one of the two KGV games was actually played at Bellerive, or
2) Clarence played a rostered home match at KGV in R01.

Any light to shed, guys...?

I always knew it was a Clarence home game for some reason, but had to dig to find the below.

"It was the Magpies – playing as the away team on their home ground at KGV as to not clash with preparations for the first AFL game at Bellerive "

Ok, next one, probably directed at Kingpin, but if anyone else can shed some light - venue queries over three games played in 1986, and one played in 1988.

According to Kingpin's wiki entry for the 1986 and 1988 seasons:
R10-86 Clarence v New Norfolk was played at Boyer
R14-86 Clarence v North Hobart was played at North Hobart
R14-86 Glenorchy v South Launceston was played at KGV
R16-88 Clarence v Sandy Bay was played at Bellerive

My notebook from that era says:
R10-86 Clarence v New Norfolk was played at Bellerive
R14-86 Clarence v North Hobart was played at Bellerive
R14-86 Glenorchy v South Launceston was played at North Hobart
R16-88 Clarence v Sandy Bay was played at Bellerive

All teams are listed correctly as home teams (e.g. they are named first in both sources), and 1986 was a year of ground rationalisation with Bellerive getting a makeover and all sorts of weird s**t going on. 1988, however, was a perfect H&A split with no rationalisation, so the Sandy Bay is either a Queenborough match incorrectly listed, or the game was switched from QB to Bel for whatever reason...

Any thoughts?

Some more from 1988, if anyone has any answers:

R09-88-NH Sat 1153 HOB 27.6 (168) SLTON 10.14 (74) HOB by 94
R09-88-KGV Sat 1768 GLEN 24.27 (171) SBAY 6.11 (47) GLEN by 124
R14-88-QB Sat 842 SBAY 19.17 (131) SLTON 10.13 (73) SBAY by 58

First one appears in Kingpin’s wiki site as South 14.10 (94). 99% sure my 1988 diary entry of 10.14 (74) is correct instead, because with a ¾ time score of 6.10, Kingpin’s score implies a 4th quarter of 8.0 for South, very unlikely.

Second one – my diary erroneously says Glenorchy 24.28 (174)…actually equals 172. Kingpin says 24.17 (171).

Third one – I’ve got South kicking 10 behinds and Sandy Bay by 61, Kingpin says 13 and 58.

Any thoughts?
1986 Clarence only played two games at Bellerive for the whole season owing to the ground being renovated to be turned into a Test Cricket venue.
Hobart played the Roos over there in front of 3,562 on the new playing surface.
I can remember the whole thing ended up looking like a driving range by the last quarter, there were divets all over the place!
All bar two of their home matches were either at North Hobart or KGV that year.
They played one further home game over at Bellerive late in the season, a low scoring borefest against one of the northern teams.
There was a lot of mucking around with the venues that year, we played a home match against SL at North Hobart (usual home matches were at KGV) which had been postponed for a week due to snow!
A couple of double-headers as well
Due to sluggish crowds at Boyer New Norfolk were forced to play two home matches at KGV and Eagles fans boycotted both. Attendances of 470 and 610 meant they were moved back to Boyer but warned to do better.
It actually reminded me of the first season of TSL when they did all sorts of strange things.
Little did people know that New Norfolk were on the brink of extinction when the original TFL Statewide League was formed and Hobart had won the wooden spoon four years in a row leading into it but had the best finances in the whole league.
Both were originally not included in the new league but Hobart's then president, Graham Peck plonked a copy of Hobart's bank balance on the table at a TFL meeting and called their bluff and they were subsequently included, New Norfolk a short time later.
One reason there could be some discrepancies is what's printed in the Mercury too. Found that out a few times.

Hobart 27.6 (168) d South Launceston 10.14 (74) according a 1988 TFL matchday program.
Given that I put these up over ten years ago, I can't recall now but maybe the papers had it as 14.10 (94). One would have to check SL's goalkickers from that day to see whether they kicked 10 or 14.
South might well have kicked 8.0 in the last quarter given Hobart's terrible last quarters that year lol.
Hobart had a very hot streak in the middle of that season and completely stuffed it and missed the finals.

Glenorchy 24.27 (171) to Sandy Bay 6.11 (47) at KGV. That's correct.

Sandy Bay 19.17 (131) d Sth Launceston 10.13 (73) or 10.10 (70) as you have.
That was possibly a misprint in the paper, I don't have a program that late in the season to be able to confirm either way.

Yes saw that. Hunted through both the TSL and Lauderdale's Facebook pages to no avail.
Even the Mercury/Sunday Tasmanian only has ten goals of the eleven.

I'm baa-aack...

1) Kingpin - 1996 SFL season - if one or two of these Kingston v Brighton games was played at Pontville instead of all three being played at the Beach Oval as is stated on your Wiki site, the H&A balance makes sense. It's currently Brighton H&A 9-12 split, Kingston 12-9 split...

Or did games get shifted?

2) Anyone - I've just finished the NTFL scores I have available to me, which is all of them from 1996, as well as unscored WL going back to 1989. For the purposes of checking, filling in a couple of gaps in later years, and getting all scores before 1996, does anyone here follow the NTFL and keep scores?

Was seriously hard to find info on the SFL in those days mate as there was only a column in the paper on the Friday or Saturday, and it wasn't all that well written unfortunately.
I'd need a program from then to be able to verify that.
Was easier from 1998 onwards as Hobart played in the league from then on and hence, I kept the programs.
Will keep digging though
