Fiora dumped

He didn't play for the jumper. Will make for a good private school footballer like Charlie Gardiner.

So it will go into this years salary cap?

Yep.

Cousins was retained on the Eagles list even though he'd been told to take a walk. This was because of salary cap pressure i.e. they would have to pay his 2008 salary in 2007 (causing a breach) if they delisted him prior to the 2007 national draft.

Same logic would follow with Fizz (they obviously had enough space in the 2008 cap to get it done).

 So he is, same height as Bakes. Never realised that.

Has there ever been a more disliked player amongst his own supporters? I didn't mind him, just the shit at football thing got in the way.

So that now leaves us with 6ND picks, with our last being at pick 80. And 3 RD picks.

Great news on the re-signing of X Clarke in particular, and of Gwilt who flourished when not solely playing in defence.

.

A lot of irony here in a thread on the delisting of Fiora. A player with great ability who just could not quite get it together to deliver.

Ditto X and ceratainly double ditto for Gwilt, who whilea good athlete I really doubt that he will make it as a footballer.

X was always going to be re-signed, but with his delivered record to date it can hardly be described as great news.

Lets hope however that in 2009 that Clarke can deliver otherwise he may like Fiora run the risk of being another player with obvious talent that c0ould just not quite deliver.

Personally I would not elevate McQualter (he is still a rookie) and would think seriously about delisting L Fisher as well (however Dempster being injured may save him).

After the restaurant meeting and Fiora going I assume that Cousins is a done deal unless the Lions sneak him off us.

So Ray and Cousins in, plus some new kids = not a bad combination of new blood.

What a rubbish decision signing on X. Clarke. The bloke has not been able to pull together a full season since he started due to injury and poor form. Injury's not an excuse anymore after seven seasons. St Kilda can't afford to be carrying this guy any longer. He will struggle with fitness problems for the rest of his career and St Kilda will regret holding onto him for as long as they have. He is not a quality player, regardless of his 5th pick in the draft, and neither is Gwilt. Neither player will help St Kilda win a premiership. Let's hope St Kilda is successful in recruiting Cousins to make up for this awful mistake

Feared for Fizz' life when he took the first one. Not a good landing...

Don't know how you could go from so good last year to so shit this year...
yeeeah what a hanger that was.

mm i suppose, 2007 i went to about 3 games lol:o dont no what happened that year but i just didn't go to any games at all lol, so i cant really remember his form

So we should de-list Clarke so we can take on some hotshot from .... a 5th round draft pick??
If w***ers like you had their way we would be like the goldcoast but without the concessions. We will be getting 3 draftees and 3 rookies and that if pretty good I reckon. So why don't you piss off! :D

To be completely honest I am not happy with this news.

Yes Fiora had an average '08, but I believe in '09 he is capable, if injury free and with a good preseason, of easily being in our best 22.

People criticise his attack on the ball but the guy is an outside midfielder, he is there to carry and deliver the ball, something that when in form he can do very well.

In my opinion next year when (and if) we are surging towards finals having Fiora on our list, (even if it is as only a depth player to cover injuries), will be much more valueable than a sixth or seventh round selection in this years national draft.

As much as people on here use him as a whipping boy, the guy has proven over the years that when in form he is a great at breaking the lines and kicking long.

In Form Fiora in '09 > Sixth/Seventh Round National Draft Selection

I agree with every word you have wrote.

We would have kept Fiora if Cousins was not a certain starter next year. Everyone can see that. If that was not the case Fiora would have been gone with the 7 blokes last week. That being the case, Fiora can consider himself very unlucky.

Anyone that has run out to play VFL/AFL football in a St.Kilda Guernsey has my respect. Those that sledge St.Kilda players should be ashamed of themselves.

My best wishes go to Aaron and I hope he gets a kick somewhere next year.

At the risk of sounding WAAAAAAY out of touch and a total noob, who the hell is Mini?? :o

McQualter. Don't worry i don't get it either. :D

I'm guessing cos he's small. :O :O

Well he ain't a Big Mac is he???

I believe the nickname originated way back in highschool, where Andrew would hang around with his older brother and his older brother's mates coined the term.

Don't know if this is true or a load of bunk but it does sound feasible.

Interesting. I just popped onto this board to see what the feeling about Fiora was - same discussions we used to have at the Tigers.

There is definitely something about high draft picks that makes us keep them on the list hoping there is some untapped well of 'magic' that they had in the U18s, and mysteriously disappeared when they were drafted. When it doesn't, we feel bitter.

Fiora ticked plenty of boxes - fast, good kick, good mark.

If he was a draft 40 pick, and didn't look like a girl, (neither of which affected has actual playing ability), both Tiger and Saint supporters would be screaming about 'Great clubman', 'loyal servant', 'does the job asked', and 'why delist him when duds like X are retained' etc.

its about time

Well said - I agree !

Right decision was made :thumbsu: With 140 games you couldn't say he was a complete dud, but he was never going to get any better then he was, a fringe player.
