But why would he do that ? Does he have a deathwish or something ?

You could be excused for thinking that, couldn't you.

Or maybe he just won't admit it when he's wrong, wrong wrong!!

Hentschel at FF won't work either - he was a non-event today. He was just finding a bit of confidence playing in the back-lines but that would have evaporated after today. Stupid coaching!!

I think he got a run at FF today simply based on his potential, not on form or ability.

I still dont think he has the intensity or strength to play AFL right now.

Having said that I can see they will persist with him, probably in defence. I'm not convinced on that either.

In regards to his confidence after today the opinion of both yourself and stiffy is that todays game may hurt hs confidence.

That remains to be seen. However, there is a lot he can take out of todays game though in terms of what he needs to do to make it. If he is gonna make it, these are the games he needs to take things from and improve.

If he does drop his bundle after today ... he can stay outta the side. IF he is that mentally fragiile after three years on an AFL list, he can go.

I agree that he must learn from this game. I am of belief that you always learn more from losses than wins.

However, very rarely do players start their AFL careers as key forwards. Usually they start as backman and switch forward after they get some experience and confidence playing at AFL level. Freo have done exactly this with Polak who was a star forward as a youngster and kicked 5 goals in a WAFL seniors game before gtting drafted.

I still think he will make it but playing him forward won't really help. Let him settle first before switching him around all the time. He showed a bit as a defender int eh pre-season so play him as a defender.

To be to Hentschel and all of our forwards for that matter, the delivery of the ball has been pathetic to say the least. I don't think Carey at his peak would have got many marks today.

hmm. I dont agree with that statement at all. Id say its the other way around. Very rarely do players start their careers as key backmen and make the switch up forward.

You mention Polak but their arent many examples of others.

Tredrea, C Cornes, Carey, J Brown, Whitnall, Fevola, Kingsley, Tarrant, A Rocca, S Rocca, Lloyd, Lucas, J Longmuir, Holland, Richardson, Hall, Grant. Thats a fairly big chunk of key forwards that started as key forwards. Could probably add Gehrig to that lot too. Perrie too.

Apart from Neitz, Lynch and Barker there arent many more forwards in the league today that started off their career somewhere else.

No midfield, no forwards

No midfield, no forwards, to slow, no commitment, need I say anymore

God help us against the lions

Well, i have always been so positive but today i saw nothing, no change in game plan from last season, if anything we went backwards, and it is the worst i have seen us play in 5 seasons.
Gary Aryes is far to slow to react, it has always been evident but never more than today

All i can say is that if Gary Aryes and the has beens that are the adaelaide coaching panel don't come up with a new game plan.... ie centre corridor gee thats a hard concept to comprehend.... it is going to be a very long and depressing season looking at the fixture 2 and 7 is looking probable

SIGH......

Note to coaching staff:

For the last three years we've been using the exact same ploy at centre bounces of Matthew Clarke tapping it to his feet where either McLeod or Stenglein are standing. Clubs aren't stupid, they've worked it out. Please get a new strategy and maybe just smash the ball forward of the contest every now and again.

Don't blame Ayres people, blame me, I backed us :( But don't worry, I'm never EVER tipping the Crows again :o :(
Not your fault mate. I told you we were a chance of getting beaten but never did I think we will get SMASHED.

It will be a while before I pick us again :( :o

Yeah I know Stiffy, I was just being facetious.

Now I'm glad I missed out on virtually the whole match and I don't think I'll be watching too much of the replay either.

You didn't miss much mate and to be honest I would stay as far away from that replay as possible. The first quarter was very good. Our 1st 3 goald were magical from Stiffy, Stenglein and Carey. After that 1st quarter things started going downhill. :(

ok...peep....gary ayres is out....who is our new coach and what can he do ??

go the crows

There is Peter Jonas then there is Gary O'Donnell and a few other possibilities. What has Gary done over the years. He is fast approaching a record that every coach dreads and that coaching for the longest without winning a premiership. Change is due. It was due at the end of last year. If AFC extend Gary's contract then they are not fair dinkum.

Great point! What is the use of our ruckman getting their hands on the ball 1st if it doesn't go to our advantage. We need options B & C to mix it up a bit & become less predictable.

This is ****ing disgraceful. A bunch of soft pussies who have no guts, no hunger, no balls and no ****ing game plan. This is the biggest disgrace. WTF is Hentschel doing up forward??????

This **** farting around all the bloody time. IT WILL NOT WORK AYRES YOU PIECE OF SCUM.

I am so livid. Ayres is a deadman walking. Our players need to really take good hard look at themeselves. Today I saw a bunch of pussies who didn't want the ball. Too slow, too stupid, too ****ing soft. How the **** are we going to win games with this sort of crap.

Rhett Biglands you are GONE son. 2-3 weeks for sure. Not a big loss considering how crap you were today. You never won a ruck contest, you are gone. Bring Hudson in because he will at least have bloody crack at it.

The whole ****en team has a heart of Ben Marsh. This is a ****en disgrace.
OK I missed the game, being in Sydney, so haven't seen yet, so no emotion.
Just some observations though:
1. What happens if we beat Brisbane by 60 points next week, do all the crap players this week, suddenly become champions again?

2. Training and PS form is crap - too much was read into individual performances, players were talked up, without seeing them in the real stuff.

3. Yes, I suggested a planB in PS games. Only excuse I could come up with. Can't change gameplans for the season now, and if, as everyone is saying, we continued short and wide today - then it could be a long season.

4. Saw us play crap round 2, last season, against St Kilda, and we turned that performance around.

We have too many good players in this side, for today to be the norm - heads up everyone.

Eighteen months ago, I was amused at the short-sightedness of some journos who expressed surprise that Ayres was only offered a two year contract at the end of 2002 instead of a three year contract.

It was obvious then as it is now: two years is a long time in football. Only one year and one game since that renewal and it looks as if a significant portion of us want him sacked.

I'm not in favour of any knee-jerk reaction just yet though. Ayres made a big gamble in the 2002 trading period. That gave him two years to produce.

I'll give him to the end of this year to see if he can get us in the grand final. Anything less and he should be GORN.

Adelaide doesn't have a record of sacking coaches mid season, we don't need to start now.

Guys I think I enjoyed eating my Maggi Noodles at half time more than watching that piece of sh**. :p

That was shocking. And I agree, fire Ayres. He takes too long to make changes, he persists with going 'wide' and he had Sarge in defence :( I don't think I've ever been more embarrased by watching the crows in my whole entire life :(

And i know he played really crap anyway, but howcome Reilly was on the bench for so goddam long in the first half? I thought he had the upper hand over Dogga going by pre- season form...obviously not *shakes head*

I enjoyed it immensly, took my mind off my rabble

Dont blame Ayres

Couldn't agree more with the first statement...our forwards were bringing the ball down around the 50m but then the only ones reading to crumb were in blue and white.

1. They would have pulled their finger out. They are still champion players but what they showed yesterday was shameful, pathetic, crap and any other stuff you can come up with. It was a disgrace.

2. True but what are we supposed to do. Sit back and not stick out necks out and express our opinion. I still think Reilly and Hentschel (add Scuey to that list) will make it. It doesn't help when one is played in a FP and the other spends a half on the bench before getting a go.

3. Why not. Kick it long and direct. Have contest at CHF and surround with crumbers. Footy is a simple game.

4. Performance against Saints last year in round 2 was nowhere near as bad as the one against Roos yesterday.

I have never seen such hysterical over reactions

Its not the Coach who should be fired but certian players who are getting paid more than him if anyone.

A woeful performance by all accounts but you don't see people calling for Sheedy's head now do you.

A long way to go yet boys and girls.

I'm sure you're right Dave.
But think of the positives man!

They would surely appoint Craig as the interim coach ala Roos, and he would **** up the rest of the year as well, unlike Roos. At least we wouldn't have to worry about him getting the job for next year then!

'Tis my one hope for the rest of the year :)
Two birds with one stone.

agree Jars. There were a lot of completely unacceptable performances, not just from the coaches.

Still waiting to see the game replay on Foxtel.

Game is simple your right!
Todays journos try and put new jargon into the game, but its still a new name, for old tactics.
We have the players to play long. Ayres in his first two years was criticised for being predictable and kicking long, so are we trying to be TOOOOOOO cute.

The game against St Kilda, for 1st 3 quarters was the worst I've seen, couldnt be worse, could it?

Normally I would agree with you, but that Crow team, was very good on paper, and very experienced.
If they were young and inexperienced, I'd agree. But the coach, or gameplan, or both has got them. And one, or both have to be changed!

Game of footy is simple and is the one that is made up of simple structures. Stick to it and you'll go well.

Trust me mate the game against Roos was one of the worst I have seen. No heart, no guts, no skills, **** farting around the flanks, when we did bring it forward and a player made a contest there was no crumber in sight. Tip: When you watch the game expect the worst so you won' be that disappointed.:(
