Ahh these are the types of people I love to laugh at while at the footy. A player makes one mistake for the game "sack him!".

Probably the same sort of nimrods that yell out just kick the bloody thing in the crowd when there are zero players forward of the play.

Harvey has made some strange decisions that I've disagreed with but threads like this are just stupid at this stage.

You can't just blame the players though.

He has undoubtably had a bad year.

Made some genuinely baffling decisions so far

Harvey nullified the Hawks chip, defensive drive game and kept Hodge very quiet. What happened in the fourth? Hawthorn set up attacks through their defense on the turnover, and Hodge had a massive impact. Coaching blunders or a drop in player effort / intensity? You be the judge.

hard to have a good year when 10 of your first starters are injured, i think he has undoubtably had a good year, given that we are 5-5. made some bad decisions hey? sure, what about the decision to play fyfe purely midfield this year? or placing kepler as our key forward? or having matt deboer play as a midfielder rather than a defencive forward...... the list goes on and on... but im sure you only want to talk about the bad, which are are far fewer

Who are the 10 players that are currently out?

I think, in all honesty, Harvey needs a little help in the coaching department. I don't think there is any disputing that he is a good coach and he has done a lot for this club. He is the first coach that we have had who has built the foundations for the future (with a little help from Chris Bond).

However, he could do with a seasoned assistant coach to give him an extra perception on match tactics. Obviously things changed in the final quarter and he wasn't sure how to prevent the haemorrhaging and thus the players ran around like arseholes who would have been better served playing auskick.

In know way is it a slight on Harvs at all. Some people just need a little help sometimes.

I'd say we are 7 down of our best 22, maybe 6 depending on how Roger comes back?

Last years Hayden would of been handy today.

Michael Barlow
Roger Hayden
Adam McPhee
Anthony Morabito
Alex Silvagni
Nick Suban
Aaron Sandilands

while you have lost a position in the top four, eigth position will be grabbed by a team that will bumble their way through the year.

Melbourne and Richmond are still just outside. StKilda are still in contention.

Of all the teams, Fremantle will bumble less with Sandi coming back and the Barlow emotional effect.

You did show that you can play the MCG as comfortably as a Melbourne team when you are switched on which will make no difference between eigth and fifth.

Could be a West Coast Fremantle final in the first week at Subi which would be interesting.

I think 6 would be the obvious number, have my doubts on Hayden ever getting back. Just don't like people saying we have more players out than we actually do and using it is an excuse.

Plus I think Ballas is not fit, Mundy is carrying, Johnson is elsewhere and Duffield is not the same player as last year. Oh, and Pav can't buy a goal (or a clean take of the ball).

Not to mention Fyfe's shoulder.

I don't think he is typically a bad coach and those decisions have certainly helped us. he has completely transformed 2 fringe players in Taz and Keps and generally i think is a good matchday coach.

But you have to take the good with the bad, and his management of Palmer this year has been poor, the fact a select few have been given a free ride regardless of form and the strange positioning of some of our other key players.

"Sack him" calls certainly way too premature though. I think he's contracted till the end of next year and that is how much time he deserves

Yeah, Harves has made some baffling decisions this year, but calling for a sacking at this point in time is way OTT.

At least he played Pav forward for most of today. :thumbsu: Overall it didn't work:thumbsd: but our mids did very well for 3 quarters without him...

His use of Palmer (and also Roberton as a sub) has been poor.

And his constant mentioning of injuries is IMHO pissweak. A champion team beats a team of champions etc etc, there should be no excuses.

Very interesting. We need a September derby to really sort things out and destroy all Freagles out there.

I like your optimism.

I understand the sentiment of the OP but it's a bit rash to make such a short-sighted call. They players are just as to blame as the coach for the 4th qtr fadeout. You have to remember, it was the same players out on the field in the 4th as the rest of the game, they just stopped doing what they were supposed to be doing.

Players were the blame for this loss.

Harveys coaching was pretty good
We didnt play around the boundary lines all the way forward we looked to get it into the corridor.
Something ive been complaining about all year.
It made ball movement into forward 50 much quicker an made us much more dangerous going forward.

Our pressure all around the ground not just inside 50 was pretty good where as all year it had been non existant.

We played forwards forward alot more an midfielders midfield alot more.

Now in the last quarter this seemed to change.
Was it led by the players who had played there most of the year thinking its an important time in game now i need to get myself in there or was it a coaching move by Harves?.

Hawthorn stepped up in the last quarter they went in harder for the ball an smashed us at the stoppages our players didnt respond to the increased intensity an go in harder themselves.
That is what cost us.

Was some baffling coaching decisions throughout game but we were still doing enough to be in a winning position.
Had the players stepped up a gear like hawthorn did we should of been able to hold them off.
Instead they played bruise free football not wanting to go in that hard for the ball.

The sub was bizarre, but there isn't much anyone can do with a bunch of pea hearts.

They're his pea hearts though. In Harvey's first year we lost 5 games in a row after leading at three quarter time. Anyone seen as lacking fortitude through that period should have been shipped out.

If he's decided that these players are the way forward then he'll cop criticism when the team plays poorly. Calling for his sacking now is premature but if we miss the 8 then dish up similar performances in the first half of 2012 he'll be under pressure.

Unfortunately we missed the boat on Scott. He was the reason for our success last year. Harvey gets outcoached far too often, but there's nobody else
Who can really take over.
Sick and tired of his bullshit

Plenty of options if a change of direction is required at seasons end. Malthouse, Eade, Neill Craig.

The best guy now coaching the cats, The club invested a lot of money trying to make freo look like a VIC team with there new jumpers and little on how to play the game

It getting to the point, I nolonger enjoy going to Freo games..there no guts and will to win

its as annoying as it is humorous. its easy to be out coached when you cant turn to the comps number one ruckman (sandilands), the clubs best midfielder (barlow) and when you lose a player like silvagni, your forced to play hacks like johnson... atleast we can play our most imposing/talented youngster..... oh wait thats right morabito did his knee......

we played the 3rd top side at the MCG.... we should have won, but calling for harvey to be sacked is simply ridiculous. especially when it is a miracle that we are even 5-5. some people know less than nothing about footy... its like their brain us a football vacuum

You need to have 30 quality AFL ready players to be a good AFL side because everyone gets injuries. Apart from Crichton, which players in todays 22 wouldn't be in the mix for selection if we were at full strength?
