i know the use of palmer yesterday was baffling, but does anyone else think that harves knows rhys is going to GWS, and rather than drop his value by playing him the wafl only, he is just playing him sporadically? palmer IMO is best 22, especially with the injuries, but why develop a player who is leaving? then again why punish your future draft pick by not playing him? i think its a really tough one to manage.

we often forget that the coach also has a learning curve, unless you're an old horse like malthouse, but even then, he'd want an open mindset because as soon you close off to learning opportunities, you become redundant.

i don't mind that harvey is making some mistakes, as long as he can man up, admit to them if it's of anyone's interest and get on the with the job of figuring out how to make the most of the men he has at hand.

I just cant wait till silvagni comes back... because the moment he does, it will be obvious to all as to why MJ has been getting a game

Silvagni can come back an MJ will still get a game wait an see.

He will continue to get picked because of what he has the ability to do, not what hes been doing.

I think the problem with Freo is that ther is know real leader out there and I am pointing the finger at Pav ,his influence has become almost zero. What's happened to him ?? we are missing his forward skills, his 4 or 5 goals. He is the real reason , he should have taken that game on in the last quarter but he goes missing. He seems to have aged very quickly this year and dropped right off the pace. The dockers are acting leadership and I think that's the mantle that Sandy has taken and Barlow in his short career has also. Once these two are back ,we will find direction. I think Palmers mind is in Sydney and his heart is no longer with us,I would not play him but we have no other options.

At this point there's no doubt he's got ulterior motives for Palmer. Whether that correlates to him being in cahoots with GWS or someone else or just that Harves wants him to improve his professionalism/demeanor - there's definitely something more to it than just making a wrong choice yesterday.

I'm dead ****ing serious. His coaching in the last month and a half has been nothing but disgraceful, and it all came full circle today.

Subbing Pearce off, who was easily in the top 5 players today was just crazy. Starting Kepler in the ruck for the 4th quarter instead of Griffin (who was probably THE best player) was even worse.

I'm using pretty optimistic after games like this, but enough is enough. He's lost it. I'm sick of it.

What crap......Harvey out coached Hawthorn for the majority of game.
We just have to accept that it is all about next year now. No team copes with injuries we have had .In addition many of the players playing at the moment had interupted pre seasonsetc

We might get lucky and just scrape into the eight but it is all about premership. We need to continue to get games into young players. Not take risks .Players like Barlow Sylvani etc should be just being gently re introduced this year.

Next year With hopefully a full list Harvey can be judged fairly

I thought a couple of Palmers defensive efforts were pathetic when he came on. He seems lack pace .He used to have a burst of speed like Ballyntine but it is no longer evident. I know he seems to be playing out of position but he needs to show he wants to be out there

Would love to know what is going on with this guy.....must be something because Harvey seems to give everyone else a fair go

IMO planning for a premiership involves making the 8 at (nearly) all costs this year.

Finals experience is invaluable. Things may have turned out differently in 06 if we'd gathered the necessary finals experience in 04 and 05.

We could be screwing more than this season if we put the cue in the rack.

I think we are all overrating Silvagni a tad, but that's mainly due to the poor form of Johnson than anything else. We're just so desperate to get someone that plays even close to the role that Johnson plays (or the role he's supposed to play anyway). Even Bucovaz's name was getting thrown up after 2 mediocre WAFL games.

We need an Essendon like coaching set up. They've got a collection of good coaches. Despite my disdain for the Dons, you can't deny the coaching set-up. They're the kind of coaches that work wonders around clubs. As footballers, flags were won, and as coaches, classic sides built. I have no doubt that with Essendon's coaching staff, we'd be a top three club.

It's just a little infuriating, I suppose. We've got some great budding talent, but a stagnant coaching sector.

Then again, we're sitting eighth, with the season barely half over. A half-dozen of our best are out. Just... hope..

He wasn't the only one in the last quarter who seemed to confuse waving like the queen and AFL tackling, but yea I agree - his explosive pace is just not there for some reason and it's a major weapon of his. Whether it's in his head or physical, something isn't right - whether it's Harvey's fault or not I don't know either but I sure would love to know.

That's it exactly Esti. We must make the finals and I don't care how we do it. That experience whether its one game or more is what our team needs more than anything.

Consecutive finals appearances will set us up a long way with this group for next season.

lol about pav..... he is out of form sure.... but i bet you were one of those 2 years ago saying mcpharlin was finished rah rah rah......

he is again being played out of position, but he is a champion, he hasnt "aged badly" like a champion he will return to his best

I agree, SA. I may get laughed at for this (I think Dom actually was earlier) but getting Neil Craig as an assistant would IMHO be a good idea.

There was talk on OTC tonight that he may not be at Adelaide next year, and he's experienced and well regarded.

There is no doubt our 2011 coaching panel is inferior to the 2010 one.

Most of us thought Harvey would really be the one to put some toughness, some backbone, into the FFC. Unfortunately so far there has been no evidence to suggest he has managed to do so.

craig was put onto the "staff" of the adelaide footy club so that if he was no longer the man to lead the club he would still have a place at the club where his knowledge and talents wouldnt be lost on the club. even if they remove him from the top job, he aint going anywhere

I cannot believe all the love for Neil Craig,

Have a wander over to the Crows board, and read about the soft tissue injuries they have every year.

They may be the Crowbots, because he runs them into the ground, not only pre-season, but just before finals.

Read about his lack of match day coaching skills.

Not to mention his appalling finals record, ie: match day coaching skills, and lack of stamina.

:thumbsu: That's right, I remember that move. And I don't really see him going interstate either.

Nevertheless, my point remains that we need an "experienced" assistant (I dunno, like a Wayne Brittain maybe?) plus a recently-retired midfielder ala Robert Harvey, Simon Goodwin, Scott West. Someone like Simon Black or Brett Kirk would be ideal. Hase could also fit the bill, but he'd probably be better off going to a different AFL club first.

well my thoughts on an experienced assistant would be michale from east perth... he has experienced an afl premiership, he has intimiate knowledge of the game, he was often lauded by west coast for his tactical nous, he knows the wafl system and wafl players better than any other which is important when it comes to say player development.... and he wouldnt cost much i wouldnt have thought.

i personally cant think of anyone better who would be willling to live in perth

Crows are struggling; as are we. We have a "fire Harvey" thread; they also complain about their coach. That's footy.

FWIW I like to think Harvey would be sought after by other clubs (maybe not as head coach, but in some capacity.)

edit: yep, wouldn't say no to TMc, KPR.

everyone has been crying out about the loss of chris scott, well lets steal last years premiers assistant in scott watters. he is a freo boy, has a young family who im sure would be happy to move home. i believe he is currently th epies defence coach, and has experienced both afl and wafl premiership success as a coach. he has also been under one of the best coaches of all time in darth vader. get him back i say!
