Fireworks

But see you can apply that to anything imo. New iphone, boxing day sales, etc etc. ;)
But at least there you get something to take some. Fireworks you get flashing lights for a few minutes.

I never really loved fireworks but 3-4 times have found myself in the city on NYE watching them

Around where I live people set them off and I generally just shrugged my shoulders but it is definitely an issue for me now that I have a 19 month old girl and sleep is precious to us

It would be one thing if people set them off at 12am and it was over by 12.05 but where I live it started at 11.30 with one group and there must have been 4 or 5 parties gong on where fireworks were a feature and it collectively went to about 12.45

doesn't sound like much as I type it now but it certainly adds to the stress of a little child

we had a stereo playing static to try and drown it out but she was awake the whole time and a bit frightened.

I just don't get the fascination with setting off fireworks in the suburbs - go the city to watch the real thing…. or somewhere secluded in the country to get your redneck kicks

I loved spending time in China where fireworks can be purchased from the street markets and lit on the streets. My fascination with organised fireworks deteriorated since this experience. Had a blast. Seeing parents getting their toddlers involved, although some of them don't like them, the Chinese love the shit. Not one sign of injury or harm in sight. I guess some cultures know how to handle a laid back culture without being idiots.

Once you got illegal fireworks from canberra...where do victorians get these from now. ..can't stand illegal fireworks mainly because they are so random, loud and remind me of rocks on roofs. .
There's a big difference in how people are affected between fireworks on the streets in a legalised environment and fireworks lit in an illegal environment largely due to the unexpected nature of the latter.

NT still sell them on Territory day. But you need an NT ID to get them.

Was in Texas for New Years last year and they had vans and warehouses on the sides of the highways that sold them. We were told that by law you can only use them outside the city limits. My brother and I set off off a about $200 worth in a shopping centre car park on the out skirts of Austin on the side of the highway. We had a cop circle a double back 3 or 4 times while we set them off. Just as we finished and hopped in the car he drives over and flashes the lights so I wind down the window and he asks if we happened to see who had been letting off fireworks. Told him sorry we couldn't help him and he laughed.

I remember buying them in Alice Springs as a kid they were bought with a role of film.
