FWIW I'm all aboard the high expectations train. I just think teams (all teams) unexpectedly lose games in the first quarter of the year that have very little resemblence to where things sit come the end of the year. See hawks and Brisbane last year as extreme examples.
Definitely, it's not season over if you lose round 1. Brisbane is pretty good evidence of that.

My hope is for a straight flush of wins.

My expectation is a [emoji638]-[emoji640] start.
I think we’ll lose the first [emoji638].
Derby will be close for a half, bullies will push us all the way, and the rest we’ll claim the Win.

It’s not the worst outcome tbh.

Can't see a win in Geelong without Bolton & Young.
Get them in, and I can see wins
I reckon we're more likely. Some of our better road wins lately (Cats 22, Swans 24) have been with players missing as strong outsiders. Good indicator of our inability to handle the pressure. It tends to come off when you have lots of outs.

Luckily my hopes of a 6-0 start have been unceremoniously crushed at Goomba Stadium.

So now I can hope for a much more reasonable 5-1 start to the season.

Last season I quite enjoyed the breaking each segment of our season into 6 games.

I'm sure there'll be a great round 1 preview, but it's less about each individual game and more around the general expectations.

R1 Geelong Cats (GHMBA) [50/50]
R2 Sydney Swans (Optus) [50/50]
R3 West Coast Eagles (Optus/away) [must win]
R4 Western Bulldogs (Optus) [expect to win]
R5 Richmond (Barossa) [must win]
R6 Melbourne (MCG) [expect to win]

Overall it's an interesting start to the season where I'd be hoping to bank 4 or more wins, although only 2 home games with Gather Round in there too.
Less than 3 wins would be a bit of a disaster, 3 workable but not ideal, 4 a solid base and more than that would be a great start.

What makes it a little tricky is on paper the first 2 games are the hardest, and if we lost them going into an away derby with the debacle that was last year hanging over our heads suddenly there'd be a lot of pressure.
I think you are accurate

I hope we make this 5 and 1

Sydney and Dogs will be tough games

Shirley we beat Harley Reid and the Eagles
We definitely should beat the Eagles, then again we definitely should have beaten them this time last year.

Given Melbourne's current form we have to win next week, which would bring us up to my expectation of 4 wins.

The way we lost to Geelong was terrible which really left a poor taste in the mouth.
We were in it up to our eyeballs against Sydney and feels like we lost the 50/50.

Won the other game we got challenged in and did what we had to against the rebuilding teams.

Now to finish up and walk away with a par in my mind.

That Sydney loss will sting for a while. Serious fumble against a side who aren't what they were last year.

We need to get it done against Melbourne next week. On current form at least, we've come up against 3 of the bottom 4 teams in this block of games so 4-0 is almost par.

Adelaide and then St Kilda are going to be far more telling games.
