Children with the condition struggle to absorb and transport copper, an essential mineral that our bodies use in many ways, greatly affecting their global development. As they grow, they fail to thrive, and are more vulnerable to respiratory infections. It is much harder for children with Menkes to clear their lungs and therefore are prone to pneumonia.

Jordan has written a book titled One Day at a Time, in which she shares their daily life with Levi and his siblings Grace and Ezra, caring for her mum in her final months which she says ‘was an honour”, some of the highs and lows of Gary’s career and family, silver linings, blessings and hope.

When asked whether the treatment Levi is on has been effective, Jordan said: “It’s not a cure, it’s merely a way of slowing the progression.”
