I think I was bit more disappointed than he was! 😭😭😭😭

It's so interesting taking tourists to the footy. They are so fascinated with the game because it's nothing like they've ever seen before. It's fun trying to explain the rules to them!
When my parents first came out from the states to visit me, I took them to the Western Oval for their first and only match in May 1979.

We were playing South Melbourne. I remember a few things about that day. First was having to explain South's banner to them which read: " HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE GUTTER?" Our record was 1-1-4 at the time. LOL We won that day.

Second was that my mum was absolutely amazed at how the old women in the Whitten Stand could sit there and knit and yell at the same time, especially their rather colourful language.

Third was when my father said: "I don't understand the umpire's decisions." I told him that none of us did. I have a pic I took of the two of them in the stand with the game going on in the background. I've posted it in a few Bulldogs threads. They loved the experience. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about that day. I'm so glad they were able to go to a game.

They came out to visit me again for Christmas 1982 and we went to the Boxing Day Test against England. That's another happy memory.

I have explained the game to Americans when I worked in Florida in 2003. Mainly the jock types.

Yeah they didn't get it

I showed them pics of Gary Moorcrofts mark and some other amazing mark. Their jaws were on the floor
My brother said on their uni states trip someone bought a small footy they would kick around ocassionally and you would get people looking at them like wtf.

Oh Yeah the women were just as bad as the men back then from the stories I've been told.

My dad was pretty bad at the footy. My mum told me that she only went with him to the footy once after they got married. She said never again 🤣!
He was ok when my brother and I were with him. He probably toned it down after he had kids.
