I was curious who legitimately would use machetes...

Machetes are generally allowed for legitimate purposes such as:

• Agricultural work
• Horticulture
• Camping and other recreational activities
• Industrial use

And of course around camp on Survivor. Those coconuts won't open without it! Oh and cutting the bamboo for the shelter.
