Rioli trained with the Power on Wednesday night after being interviewed by the AFL investigations team, which heightened the pressure on the forward.

He chose on Thursday morning to take himself out of the selection mix for the Crows’ clash to concentrate on his own personal wellbeing, while also awaiting a finalisation of the AFL’s investigation.

Port Adelaide footy boss Chris Davies explained how distressing the situation had been for Rioli in a late press conference on Wednesday, saying the club was throwing its full support behind their player.

“With what he’s gone through in the last 24 hours, not taking away from the fact that we’re dealing with a real issue here, it’s fair that he will see how he goes after training (to decide if he plays against the Crows),” Davies said.Port Adelaide is expected to front the media again later on Thursday to provide further detail on Rioli’s decision to step away from the Showdown.
