Possible, I would prefer a second unchanged season to bed thinks down, then go to 10. Keep it there for a few years.
Also remember, that the AFL seems to be making an effort to control player costs. 2 more squads adds significantly to the costs, especially if player payments increase, so it may also depend on how successful the first year is in raising revenue.

There's definitely been a cautious approach till now, but it already looks like all 8 teams will meet budget with relative ease, so don't be suprised if up to four teams are added for the second season (we know at least that number are already waiting in the wings).

What facilities do they use? Not to mention who supplies the doctors, sport scientists, coaches, assistant coaches, marketing, publicists, etc

Being tied to existing clubs means the extra staff required is minimal not to mention access to quality facilities as opposed to a state league teams facilities
Bellerive is off limits but cricket is not played on York Park or North Hobart Oval (too small for AFL, but fine for the womens comp). Match day facilities for Tassie aren't an issue. It would be true that training facilities aren't going to be AFL standard.

Canberra may be more of an issue, depending on crowd sizes.

When the next lot of clubs are announced, do they get the dregs that were'nt drafted this year?

Or do all clubs delist their players?

The mens teams don't delist all their players. I highly doubt it will be the case for the ladies teams. But a comparatively shallow talent pool is reason enough to not have further expansion too soon. Ideally should be still some years off.

All of the contracts are just for the initial season. The likelihood is that there will be another draft of the entire women's competition, with perhaps a few players such as the marquees and one or two others who will be quarantined.

It won't be all 27 players on the list, and probably not even 24, but it'll be more than just marquees that are allowed to be retained.

Having worked to establish a connection between the players and club supporters, they will not want wholesale changes. Some will have to go into a pool for the new teams, but maybe 5.

It will depend on where the new teams are but.

I can't imagine Fremantle being allowed to keep 22 of the 27 players when West Coast comes in. That would mean only 5 of the previous year's best Western Australians would be available to the Eagles. With perhaps a few of those picked up by the eastern states clubs being available.

Geelong has done there bit moving forward taking over a local Geelong team and joining the VFL. Throwing their resources behind their Women's team.

Is the TAC teams having girls squads?

One of the thing Rugby Union did prior to expansion was to increase the size of squads to build up playing numbers.

Is squads of 27 to small if there are injuries.

Will injured players be replaced as free agents noting a couple of injured Marquee players.

I think they are allowed to have players outside the squad train with them. Presumably they could be bought in. They would have had to consider the possibility that squads that size may actually struggle to field a team with a bad run of injuries.

Might be left field but why not Tassie and Canberra? The costs for a women's side would be miniscule and while I'm not entirely sure about the capital, Tassie would take to it like a duck to water.

Tassie would be a great idea. The Tasmanian government should really get on the front foot with this and get on board at the ground level.

based on existing clubs. Guess where they arent.

It doesn't have to be that way. Pretty sure if Tassie managed to get a groundswell of support behind a team the AFL would get on board.

Yes, and all the current clubs have tens of thousands of members, twitter followers, etc, that they can send news and info to on their womens team to drum up interest.

Tassie would be a bit different. A men's team might struggle down there because anybody who follows AFL would already have a team ... And they're not all going to suddenly support a Tasmanian (men's) team overnight. But the women's team is different. There's no rule that states that you have to follow the same women's team as the men's team.

This is part of the reason it has been relatively easy to get sponsors, as there is already an established base to tap into. A standalone team has none of that.

If the Tasmanian government can justify being a major sponsor to Hawthorn then sponsoring a women's team would be a no-brainer.

Tassie does have industry (James Boags, Cascade, Cadbury are a few that come to mind) but unlike the other states they don't have massive competition for the sponsorship dollar

What facilities do they use?

The same ones that Hawthorn uses when they're down there?

Not to mention who supplies the doctors, sport scientists, coaches, assistant coaches, marketing, publicists, etc

Tassie manage to put a Sheffield shield and a Big Bash team on the park, surely a AFLW team wouldn't be beyond them?

Pretty sure existing clubs would need to have extra staff anyway ... Sharing of existing staff would likely lead to rorting of the Football Department tax.
