Assuming we take 3 in the draft.

Retired: Mathews, Everitt
Delist: Brennan, Davis, Thornton/DOK (back to the rookie list), ROK (or if ROK stays - Brabazon)
Promote: Smith, Murphy
Rookie retain: Orreal, Bruce
Rookie bai bai: O'Dwyer, Beckmans, Terlich

With the new rule allowing any rookie to be elevated after Round 11 regardless of injury, Orreal will remain on the rookie list as an emergency measure if Jolly/Currie go down.

Why is everyone suggesting a Laidlaw delisting? He has more upside, in my opinion, than a Brennan, Beckmans or MOD.

Beckmans and MOD are both rookies therefore they are not on the Swans Senior List. Therefore they cant be delisted only removed from the Rookie List.

The Swans will have to delist multiple players and alot of the posters have suggested that one of the delistings be Brennan but more have to go.

Hm =/

Delist: Brennan, Brabazon, Laidlaw (Then re-rookie?)
Promote: Smith, Murphy
Rookie delistings: Beckmans, Terlo, MOD

What about Fosdike? Does he still have a place on the list?

Played one game last year, can't really see him breaking the 22 unless we're ravaged by injury.

May as well delist him. Or is he contracted?

Or Smith.
He might have much to offer, but what little I've seen he's not up to AFL standard. I'd rather stick with Schmidt, Laidlaw and MOD, of those nominated to be cut.

Fosdike will probably be kept to see if he can get fit next year.
Brennan must be on the cusp of delisting.

Not sure why Brabazon's been mentioned for the chop, either, as he's shown a bit.

Thornton would be unlucky to go, but it might happen, and by the sound of it Terlich and Beckmans are in trouble.

And obviously Davis is gone too.

You do know Smith's two matches have come against the '07 and '08 premiers? Can't blame the kid for not slotting in right away.

To me, it was more that he just looked like a little lost kid, that he went in to the games intimidated by who he was playing, and that's a cross against him.
Compare him to the likes of Bird, Jack and Veszpremi, all similarly inexperienced but who have played seniors without seemingly being intimidated by the reputations of rivals.

On top of that, he did nothing to suggest he was good enough.

Smith is amazingly consistent and a great on-field leader. Definite keeper.

Not everyone shows their wares in their first match as Laidlaw and Pat did. He might just be a Bird or a Moore that takes some time to grow into his role, and that will only come through sustained gametime. Its a two way street, really. Select him consistently and he'll grow into the role you give him, unlike how he was rotated between defence, midfield and the forwardline and not allowed to root himself into a position.

Kieren and Pat play in a way that uses their versatility and ability to move from one end to another, using their creativity. Bird is grounded in the midfield for the majority of the game. Smith's biggest asset is not his creativity, but his solidity, much like Bird, so like Bird, he'll need sustained gametime to settle into a solid role he is given.

I know very few (if any) will agree but I'd delist Schmidt.

Very good at ACT level, scored a couple of nice goals at senior level, but totally failed to impose himself as at midfielder at AFL level.

Bird in one season has done more than Schmidt in his career.

Only 30% of Schmidt's possessions are contested and whilst his disposal is OK (80% efficiency), he averages only 6 kicks a game.

By comparison Kennelly has the same % of contested possessions and a better kicking efficiency (85%) and averages 9 kicks a game.

So that's running half back with a higher contested possession % than a midfielder. It also indicates that Schmidt's much vaunted kicking is far from elite and also that he simply doesn't get enough of the ball.

Schmidt is slow, coming back from a knee op and if we are serious about being a quicker side I fail to see how he is going to help.

Schmidt will be 23 at the start of next season, he has been on the list since 2003 and has had plenty of opportunities to show his capabilities, but has failed to take the chances offered.

Bird, Veszpremi, Moore are all potential centre square players and IMO all are better than Schmidt. Schmidt's only hope in my view is as a small forward.

One guy I'd like us to retain, assuming his hamstrings are up to it, is Laidlaw. Quick, a lovely long kick and hard at it. Unfortunately I fear the acquisition of Rhyce Shaw and the presence of DOK may spell the end for Laidlaw, as the role they would take would be similar.

I am going to work on rough figures here, but Kennelly would be looking at 90%+ game time during a match, compared to Schmidt's less than 50% on the field.

I see what you're getting at though. Doesn;t look the likely type, but i think he would be a very servicable player over the next 8-10 years.

Delisted:
Ablett
Brennan
Davis
Faulks

Promote:
Smith
Murphy

Are the above officially delisted or is that a wish list?

I was reading a thread on the main board about all club delistings and the Swans haven't made any big changes so far just Davis and Everitt.

With Rys Shaw in and any rookie upgrades you will need to cut a few just to be able to use the minimum 3 draft picks.

Thornton delisted... possibly being picked back up as rookie.

If not hope the coasters take him in PSD
