Nah that cant be right
he was given another chance after his ACL

Well it could be right, but I have little doubt that we'd re-rookie him, or pick him up with our last pick in the nat draft.

We have had this happen before, where we need to clear list space, but don't actually want to remove any players.

No idea of it's true, but the poster was from WA (Thornton was recruited from Peel Thunder*).

Davis, Everitt, & Mathews are gone.
Gained Shaw.
There are likely to be between 1 & 3 rookie upgrades (Smith IMO is a probable, Murphy & Orreal possibles).

Therefore anything up to 3 further delistings are necessary.

I would have thought Thornton would at least be close to the chop.

* I had Claremont, OP corrected me.

Sorry, I don't believe you. Call it post-trade week scepticism, but it just doesn't accord with the statements that have come out of the club about him. Unless they don't think he can overcome his injuries, of course. If I'm proved wrong, I'll apologise.

I'd say that if it is true (and it may well be), it will be with a rookie contract guarantee for 2009, or our last pick in the national draft.

Just my opinion.

I hope its just the one upgrade (Murphy). We need to give ourselves as many picks in the national draft as possible.

At the moment Davis is the only player officially delisted. The club has until October 31st to make its delistings.

But according to a new rule, rookies can be upgraded even without long term injuries, right? We don't really need to upgrade a lot of rookies then, probably just the one in Murphy like bloods said.

I know he's a favourite amongst some of the girlies on here, but there is no way he is even close to the main list yet, surely.

Mmm i agree about Jake im sure they would retain him on the rookie list but they may bring him up just incase Currie or Jolly go down...im sure LRT would be in 2 replace them if anything were 2 happen but i think Jake may get one or two games next year

lets just say if it does happen...PARTY!

The Roomies and i have already decided that no matter where his debut game is we are FLYING/DRIVING/BOMBARDING/ROLLING to see it

Hope you've got a contingency plan, as although improving, he isn't even up to speed for the Reserves yet.

Who knows though, Renouf from the Hawks was a project.

But he is he has improved by great lengths he replaced currie in the ruck in the remaining games of the reserve season hes going to be good for us and being 205cm the tallest at the club he is what we need

Sounds like you watched him in his first couple of games. If so, I would have to agree with you. But his improvement towards the tail end of the season was very impressive, and while I don't think he will be elevated, with the new rookie elevation rule in place for next season, should Jolly or Currie go down, it wouldn't be out of the question to see him play.

Yep, spot on.

His improvement was very, very steep, but that said, there is not a snowflakes chance in hell they will promote him, there is just no need. He may well be promoted at the end of next season and start a long apprenticeship, filling in for Jolly and Currie when needed and stepping up when Jolly retires, albeit still a long way away.

As for Terlich, he was a long way from being the worst rookie we have seen in the last 5 or 6 years, had a dip and was pretty good off both feet, but in reality is probably just short of demanding to be kept on the list and it comes as no surprise to see him let loose as spots are at a premium. He will make a good VFL or SANFL player IMHO. Good luck to him.

Just on Orreal, given that Jolly still has a good few years in him left, and Currie is by all reports an absolute gun that is almost certain to succeed at AFL level (no pressure if you're reading this, Ringburner!), do you think that maybe the Swans are considering "fattening him up", so to speak, as a potential trade to the GC team? Unless Currie disappoints, Orreal is unlikely to be able to break into the senior team until Jolly retires, or moves forward. If Goodes moves forward as well, which is by all reports the plan, then there may be no room for Jolly there, so he will probably play out his career in the ruck. Which means Orreal will have to wait for probably another 4-5 years before he breaks into the side on a regular basis. Given the currency young ruckmen attract, maybe giving him a few more games early in his career and trading him off for one of the GC team's first rounders would be a good option, if it doesn't look like he'll be able to break into the team ahead of Currie?
