I suppose the big win in GWS getting pick 11 is that Giants would target very different players to what we would be after (as opposed to C'wood).

Right guys? right??

We would not take a forward because that is not how our recruiters, have recruited with our first pick in the last 4 years. It has been pick the best strong bodied midfield available, who doesn't back away from a contest, dimma style with our first pick (Martin, conca, ellis, vlastuin) and i don't see that philosophy changing for the recruiters any time soon.
I agree with what you are saying here Deanos, however, I believe that team structure will never be good enough to win the ultimate prize if Richmond choose the same type of player every year.

We lack a mobile quality tall athletic forward type and as these onballers are not the quickest going around, pace also. Love the Tigers choices in the last few years but premiership sides also contain a variety of players with differing styles. Hard nuts, pacy outside players and mobile talls who are not just ruck types. I think it's time Richmond took a hard look at list. To many similar types. Interested to hear thoughts... I do not think there is a great deal of flair in the list. Other than jack or dusty...

Salem or Acres for me now.
Both have got great disposal. Both have got great decision making.
Salem is more physical and has a two way running game.
Acres offers that height advantage, versatilely and that bit of zip.

This is it summed up

I want Salem more personally, sounds exactly like what we need.

Got one already. McJesus.

Well yeah he was our first preference that was realistic at that pick. But we rated Day at 1 that year which goes against your argument that we only take big-bodied mids. He was pretty skinny. Certainly no Boyd at the time. Fact is we go best available. If McCarthy is seen as the best player at pick 12 they will snap him up quickly. I don't think he will be the best one there though and we will end up with a midfielder. We rate Kelly quite highly this year and he's built like a 12 year old girl.

In other words the best available regardless of our picking up mids of recent times.

I don't think we have gone for the exact same type of recent times. We have drafted martin, conca, ellis and vlass of recent times. Imo conca is an inside mid that can run outside, ellis is the opposite, vlass has that rare quality of time and space with dusty a hybrid of all of them. All different in my op and compliment us well. Add in some of our other draftees(McDonough, mcbean, mckintosh) and the skill sets are broad and diverse.

Bontempelli (cousin of Nick dal santo), seems like the complete package, is there any reason RFC would not take him ?? tigs2010 MR Anyone else care to comment ?

While they vary in some skill-sets and styles to some degree, they all fit within the template of skilful, strong and battle-ready midfielders with plenty of 'inside' in their game. I think some of us are now looking for a player with outside line-breaking run and high endurance to complement the reliable inside types we have based our rebuild around.

As mentioned, the top clubs have at least one of this type, and it would be reasonable to expect us to go the same way.

Only question is: have we brought in enough of the solid reliable contested-possession 'core' types to phase out some of the earlier stop-gap players in order to now concentrate on recruiting that outside run? Or do we continue with our recent drafting strategy? I guess it comes down in part to who our recruiters think is best available at our pick who fits our needs, and they would have a much better idea than most of us here, so we need to have faith in them.

Carlton recruiters rate Hartung highly. Just FYI.

UTG have you heard anything regarding who we rate highly ? Seems quieter on that front this year. Are we going to pull a surprise like when Reece was drafted ?

Yep. Just a coincidence they're all mids. Not a coincidence all of them had big bodies as mids though.

I like him but I think he's a bit of a risk that we won't take. Probably isn't available anyway.

They do have Stephen Wells' former 2IC this year though

Doesn't mean that much, plus i think they over bloated the 2IC part as why would he go from 2IC at Geelong to behind Rogers and Hughes at Carlton. Think he is just another scout that Carlton media spinned for their members.

To be fair theie choices look solid last year if Menzels knee holds up, but i'm just not sold on hartungs impact at AFL level as a small and very outside player. So i do hope they pick him up.

Anybody know what Sheed, Salem or Bontempelli's 20 metre sprint time's were??

Sure, I wasn't passing that on as some sort of "Wow, if they think he's good then what are we missing" remark, moreso that people might like to take this into account when wondering who Carlton will take.
I'm sure they rate lots of blokes very highly, anyway.
So, all pretty pointless, really. ;)

Well looks like GWS have got their ruckman and their HBF in Mumford & Shaw
All they are missing is their little goal sneak in Nah Ass ................. #35 For Robin Nahas Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese

Nahas for 35?
That's a Na Na

I would love it but I can't see us getting better than forth round at most
