I don't buy the 181cm to 184cm bracket.

To me there is the 180-181cm bracket, 182-183, 184-185, 186-187, 188-189, 190-191 cm brackets.

You're trolling aren't you?

Seriously no, bit like an insurance company evaluating health risk overseas, in more market orientated set-ups. Fact is taller players, all other thing being equal, can do more things aerially like shorter players are superior on the ground and depending on a players role, aerial impact can be more important or less important than ground level.

I would even go as far as to say a 184 cm player has a greater advantage over a 180cm player than a 188cm player over a 184cm player and definitely a 192cm player over 188cm based on the law of diminishing returns. It is the rationale why it is hard for players shorter than 170cm to get a gig because their ground play advantage is difficult to be significantly better than the loss of marking power and reach as an inside mid from a lack of height at the margin.

The same law applies in reverse with taller players, all other things being equal, where 190+cm plus players are usually superior in the shorter range, eg. 191-193cm, 194cm-196cm than taller heights because usually the extra marking ability etc.. from greater height is not greater than the impact of a loss of ground level play from being taller. Thats why the greatest forwards of the game have tended to be less than 196cm and will tend to remain that way until we get a surge in the number of players like a Lebron James etc..with that type of physical ability that can match the Locketts at 191cm or so

Let's just call it Nahas syndrome

Nahas syndrome is why I drive a Hummer and own a sky scraper and have several subscriptions to 'miracle' treatment programs I found online

These kids just want to play football... and we're on here casting judgement of how good, shit, overrated, skinny, short, unco they are... and 99% of us armchair fat****s havent even seen them. LMAO.

Its enough to send these kids troppo. You gotta feel for them. :p
I just hope the Russians love their children too

Id prefer Salem over Lennon.
Id hate it if Salem ends up at the pies....

Nothing we can do about Salem possibly going to the Pies. Personally id be more angry if Scharenberg gets there but once again it wont be because we have passed on them like Grundy.

Might play nothing like him but Salem looks to have a bit of Paul Liccuria about his kicking to me.

What if the shorter player can jump 4cm higher than the taller player?
Mr Magic

Makes a difference:thumbsu: So the theory relies on all other things being equal which in reality isn't the case. So everyone gets a chance, heart counts, they are not necessarily excluded, and sometimes it may mean they have a different role like a 178cm can't play ruck most of the time;) Truth is height is not the only factor but one of many and heart is a big factor along with other attributes!!

From the latest..pretty sure melbourne are officially set on salem..we NEEED LENNON!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want freeman! and I don't think we would get him. if we are to get lennon, we need collingwood to take freeman or McCarthy, can it be done? So nervous now

By the way, Selwood is the whole package, total gun, G Ablett is a superstar with elite blood lines. You can't compare them as elite rovers to others IMO.

If Selwood and Ablett did what they did at 188-189cm they would totally dominate the game because their aerial impact would be so much greater. Bit like Kouta when hitting a purple patch for the whole game!

It becomes relevant when height affects reach and ability to compete in different positions like rover versus ruck/rover/centre/wing/backline/forward line IMO etc..

No offence but you are a woman aren't you. They are the only ones who complain about size so much.(No offence to the women on here)

When you're playing in the midfield and finding yourself at the bottom of the pack it's not going to make much of a difference. What will make a difference is whether the kid can get his hands on the ball ahead of his opponent. Why do you think short asses like Selwood and Ablett regularly beat taller opponents in contests? Has nothing to do with them having better reach than their opponents, it has to do with them being better at reading the ball and reacting faster than them. So who cares if the kid we draft is 179cm or 189cm as long as the kid can get his hands on the ball quicker than the next kid that's all that matters to me.

I really think WCE should pick Freeman if his avaliable. Pattersons is a huge ground and Freemans run would add pace to there one paced midfield......

Surely no way the eagles will take Lennon over Sheed can't see it happening only if Sheed is taken obviously. Personally I hope we pick up one of Lennon, Salem, Freeman or Jones in that order.
