Well CS has said that he doesn't know. If he doesn't and he has another Contract and goodness how many $s then I who have none of those cannot even guess at it

Geelong's goalless first quarters under Chris Scott in finals:

2012 vs Freo
2016 vs Sydney
2017 vs Richmond
2018 vs Melbourne
Nothing to see here. No problem at all.

The fact that Scott was able to get them into finals is what matters.

Quick calculations:

Goalless quarters:
For: 12 points total | 20 inc. 1.2 v Adelaide game
Against: 130 (19.16) | 169 (25.19) inc Adelaide game

Avg for per qtr: 3 | 5
Avg agt per qtr: 32.5 | 42.25

So that's an average of 5 points per first quarter in the 4+1 goalless finals (inc. Adelaide given the disparity, the +1) vs a total of basically 7 goals for the opposition. Dreadful.

Overall post 2011 we are averaging 2.2 goals a game to 4.2 goals a game in all first quarters of finals.

That's MENTAL

Absolutely no point asking Scott to be sacked. Get over it, let him coach, we are stuck with him.
I acknowledge the timing of an extension right before a test which he has failed in numerous times to be completely bizarre but calls for a sacking is just a complete waste of time.

Agreed - he is %100 safe for 2019 at least.

But where does the improvement come from to be genuinely competitive next year?

I'm over the feelgood sh*t!

We weren't good enough, gr8 that we fielded a lot of young players thru the year but don't believe getting to the finals & being handed our arse in the 1st week is beneficial!

Create your own history, absorb the previous lessons & improve!

I have absolutely no idea because change isn’t able to happen.
Right now I’m thinking a fresh voice, new start, end of an era is a perfect time for a new coach but what can be done? Nothing.
I’ve never really disliked Scott, but I can’t believe we just went goalless again in a 1st Quarter of a final.
The team doesn’t play for one another.

Every year is the same, we lose a game badly in the middle of May, (usually to a poor side with the old heavy training load excuse) this year it was Essendon, other years it’s teams like Collingwood or Gold Coast.
We lose after the bye every time and have had a shocking final every year.
Those 3 things are like clockwork.

2012 - Freo at the G
2013 - Freo at home
2014 - Roos killed us early
2016 - Swans
2017 - Tigers/Crows
2018 - Dees

Will Dahlhaus find his mojo?
Will Cocky stay injury free?

That's a fantastic way to cherry pick very specific stats. To get a proper analysis you need to include all finals in that period.

The worst thing is we were up for it early and all over them for the first 5-10 mins. The ball use going forward was diabolical and then it only took 1-2 goals the other way for us to go into panic mode with them setting up a wall outside 50 and us not looking like breaking through. Getting a centre clearance to give us some forward momentum would've been nice but there was no danger of that.

Good observation, we actually started better than they did. But the forward entries were poor. More importantly, we seemed to mentally lose it a bit after that initial ten minutes

It's definitely lazy to say it's all a lack of intent costing us in finals. A lack of skills and smarts under pressure, arguably the biggest factor of all. Heads drop, or some go the other way and lose their heads, compounding the former issues - and that's where the intent can start to look in question.

It's hard to say whether our inability to win it in the centre was a failure of system, skill or intent. Perhaps a combination of all three. A one way running midfield, that can't cleanly get the ball out to a team mate in space or stop the opposition doing so when they win the hard ball - not exactly a recipe for success.
