First Rookie to be elevated?

There is zero point in promoting a rookie at this stage. It's a similar story to last season when Brown got injured and we didn't promote any players. The club will only do it when a player on the rookie list is in contention to play in the seniors, otherwise they're just taking up a spot and stopping any other rookies from perhaps getting a game.

No One said do it now but If Williams keeps up what we say last night for a few months then he be in with a Red Hot Chance to play AFL

I'm just pointing out that there is a chance that nobody gets elevated this year even if he have a spot available.

I would hope that Williams keeps it up and continues to improve too but right now he still has a way to go, and I can't see him getting elevated this year unless we run out of players or he really starts tearing up the VFL. I don't mean to burst his bubble but we need to be realistic. He had a decent half against the Bulldogs and then did little against GWS. He showed good signs, but I just get the feeling people are putting expectations on him when he's only played 30 mins or so of decent footy against a side that was poor.

I would have thought thats a bit Captain obvious!....and on the flip side there is a chance that one of those players will...

You're talking about captain obvious?!? :p

Collingwood are a club that's reluctant to promote rookies unless they're going to be played in the seniors. There's quite a few clubs that will promote rookies and they won't play any games, or maybe 1 game then sent back to the 2nds. There're no rush for Collingwood, it's the start of the season and there is a bit of depth in the list before rookies need to be considered.

Probably Williams at this stage would be the best chance but Hartley has a chance no this year he might develop into a Presti style shut down defender.

I think Hine has pick up a few boys very cheaply,I think Yagmoor is a big chance to play seniors this year, very excited about him and Williams.:thumbsu:

From the 80 minutes of football that has been played this year so far, Willy and Shae were the best. So naturally we're going to think they're prime candidates. However, I can't see anyone else being of use this year other than those 2.

Based on what we saw the other night, mooney will probably struggle to get a senior game in the next 2 years, let alone this year.
But when he does, he'll b a gun. He just looks absolutely lost and his speed was not even noticeable because he would get the ball, shite himself and get owned. Of course, this was to be expected!

Bump.

By the looks of things- there are three possible candidates that could- under certain circumstances be elevated.

Hartley- hasn't played much in the vfl due to injury, but (touch wood) if our back line keeps heading in the same direction as it is with injuries, we may need to bring in Hartley to cover for injuries to another kpp and play a Keeffe or brown up forward.

Mooney- his improvement curve has been steep and our forward line is lacking so much in speed and pressure that he would be welcomed there by me. He couldn't be any worse than sinclair.

Williams- probably most unlikely, but could we see him get a few games mid yearto help with the grunt work in e middle and a bit of spontaneity up forward- he has a bit of krakouer about him in that he pulls goals from no-where.

I'd love the 10th letter to get involved. You would probably think ceglar and witts have dibs over shae if we needed another ruckman in the seniors. I listed the ones above because they have legitimate roles they could fill in the senior side considering our injuries and intensity at the moment. Shae wouldn't be a far cry though considering our ruck situation-he sure is athletic enough to add the xfactor to our team that we desperately need at the moment...

With krak and ball going down it opens the door for williams and mooney massively. Mooney doesnt need to get alot of the ball to have a big impact (of a lot of it will be percieved pressure he creates). Williams has a lot of inside grunt, his tough and an afl ready body, has a good long kick, can find the ball and snag a goal. Obviouslly he is lacking in precise kicking and other areas but i think his got a future.

Hartley could be a chance later on.. obviouslly needs to get 5-6 vfl games of a high standard at minimum to get in with his late start.

Cribbin - still a while away, but im not holding my breath... seems unlikely he'll make it, but he deserves more time.

Stubbs/farming - gone, i was against giving them another year even as rookies and they've justified it.

Shae mac - If his not costing us anything keep him for another year... if not his also gone, no chance for AFL even our kid ruckmen have surpased him

has anyone heard anything about lachy smith.. seems to get forgotten about.

I think Hartley would be first in line given our backline injury problems. Another injury there & we almost have no choice. Obviously need to get game time into him. Unfortunately that is an elevation of necessity rather than Hartley forcing his way in. But at the end of the day thats what the rookie system is for, covering LTIs.

With Ball going down there is a door opening for Marley Williams, but I want to see him getting a game on the back of some solid VFL games.

I don't think we have the luxury of rolling the dice on project players like Mooney & Shae at this stage.

Agree with you. Hartley by default, Williams thru VFL success.

Congrats to Marley Williams - our first to be upgraded - as predicted by most in this thread.

Well done. Has been upgraded for Luke Ball

Good news for Marley and hopefully the club. Means he is playing this week. We'll find out at around 6.25pm this evening.

Of course he will be playing this week why else would we elevate him for no reason ?

Could be on the X bench and have to travel with the team in case of injury (ala Yagmoor recently).

I still think he will be the in for Swan, as he certainly should be on VFL form. Was rested last week so should be cherry ripe for a few in the seniors.
