We have shown over the past few years that our first round draft pick can be on the table for the right deal, but (correct me if I am wrong), pick 11 is the highest pick we have had since 2002. I think it would have to be part of a very good deal for us...

Id be willing to risk pick 11 for a potential star player. The type of player who has alot of talent but for one reason or another hasnt managed to secure a starting postision within the team they are currently in. Look how well Craig Bolton turned out. He was a great player at Brisbane but because they were such a successful team the Lions were not able to fit him in their starting lineup alot.

He might be worth it if we got Geelong's 3rd pick in the deal. Or am i overvaluing Tenace?

Yes, you are overvaluing Tenace. This years draft is supposedly better than last year and last year there were some really good finds past number 11 such as
11. Western Bulldogs: Andrejs Everitt
12. Melbourne: James Frawley
13. Richmond: Jack Riewoldt
14. Adelaide: James Sellar
16. West Coast: Mitchell Brown
18. Essendon: Leroy Jetta
30. Melbourne: Ricky Petterd
36. Essendon: Alwyn Davey
39. Port Adelaide: Nathan Krakouer
63. Collingwood: Tyson Goldsack

I would hate to miss out on one of this years draft for Tenace with our top pick.

Since 2000 the pick 11 draft pick have picked up these players:

2000: Trent Sporn - Carlton
2001: Richard Cole - Collingwood
2002: Jason Winderlich - Essendon
2003: Beau Waters - West Coast Eagles
2004: Adam Thomson - Port Adelaide
2005: Shaun Higgins - Western Bulldogs
2006: Andjeas Everitt - Western Bulldogs

Beside Beau Waters and now Winderlich there hasn't been real sucess rate with pick 11.

But only time will tell with Higgins, Thomson and Everitt though. Everitt looks like a gun though. But there isn't really a stand out with that pick since 2000.

Just because there hasn't been a stand out number 11 pick in the last few years doesn't mean there won't be this year. In the last two years the following have gone between 12 & 20.
Nathan Jones
Shannon Hurn
Grant Birchall
Dean Polo
Matthew Bate
Angus Monfries

I would say that our number 11 pick is more valuable than Tenace by a mile. Having said that, would still like to get him, just not with number 11.

No it's not. It has been reported by almost all draft followers, including myself, that this years draft is weaker than last years. I think the quality is ok this year, but just isnt standout like 06 or 02.

Incorrect. Last years draft was much, much stronger than this years.

I say we keep it. We can't keep on giving up our first round picks and trading them for established players. We need to develop our own. We must keep it and then pick the best possible player available at that time.

How about Prismall for Moore or Prismall for Vogels in a straight swap?

Most people on here have Vogels at the top of their list to get delisted. Which means he has no trade value. And he'd probably get less of a go somewhere like Geelong than he would at Sydney. I would have thought that only a vertically challenged club like the Dogs would even think about trading for him - and even then they'd probably realise they'd be able to get him for nothing.

As for Moore, I'd have thought Geelong would be the last place he'd want to go. If he can't get a run in the Sydney midfield, he certainly wouldn't down at the Cattery.

Well, I hope we are going to keep our first pick and hopefully pick up a KPP prospect (since we are picking Bird cheaply).

Obviously it all depends how the other teams go, but obviously Alex Rance will be good for us (if he lasts that long), Collier - who is a bit of a C. Bolton clone would be useful at FB.

Are you offering Gary Ablett jnr?

Don't be ridiculous. There's nothing that irritates me more than the pointless pissing contests that pollute trade discussions on this site.

would you trade it for prismall and tenace?

Probably, but I'd rather the Swans actually focused on filling needs, rather than just going for what they think is 'good value' for once. I'm fed up with looking for a ruckman each and every year. Get Cam Wood or John Meesen - maybe Blake might be on the table now - and close the ruck issue for five or six years. Please.

I guess your pleads won't be granted for a long time seeing as the coaches, or Paul Roos, are willing to trade players for ones who have experience and are worthy to the team in the short term.

I have no problem with short-term picks if they're the best available at the time. For that reason (and because he's always been a favourite of mine) I was rapt to get Spida last year. However, it would be nice to not have the pressing need for a ruckman determining our trade strategy for once.

Who's being ridiculous?
You should know I'm not one of those 'pointless pissers'.
There's no way I would trade 11 for anything other than a star.
Ablett was stretching it a bit but what I was basically saying was No.

Which is silly. If Mark Blake, for instance, was to decide he couldn't stay at Geelong after being left out of the premiership side, we'd be lining up to throw pick 11 at them.

It's just a draft pick like any other. It has an overstated market value, being a first rounder, and it's only function is to get us one player closer to a premiership side.
